Does 6'3, 230 fit the bill?

I think it would depend on his attitude as much as his size.  What made a certain wide-bodied receiver (who began his CFL career in Calgary) so effective was his delight in punishing the D-backs who tried to tackle him.  Towards the end of some games, they would sort wave at him as he went by them.

Sounds like the Jonestown Riders are taking a closer look at Jake Heaps (released earlier by the Seahawks). I wonder how serious Young's injury is.

It really doesn't matter what Young's injury is. It was all about  publicity stunt to distract fans from the sad state of affairs in Riderville. Bennett may turn out to be a serviceable quarterback, but what 75%-80% of the pivots that get to the CFL ever make any sort of mark here, so the odds are against him. Still, with the slim pickings in Riderville, he may even start a few games before the axe falls on Jones and the inevitable housecleaning begins.

The punting was the book on him when we drafted him, so hopefully he can work out the kinks and give us the flexibility to eventually move back to an NI kicker and free up a DI spot again. Whether that is this year or next I don't know, but it looks like there is some potential there.

In consistency from a rookie kicker should be no surprise. Medlock is great, but he is an import, and getting a bit long in the tooth, so looking ahead is smart. If he has the leg strength, he ought to be able to learn how to place -kick.

  4. Sorry, Ripper, but it will take divine intervention plus at least two starting quarterbacks in the western conference being put on the D/L for extended periods for the Riders to win 8 games. I look at the Rider roster and see so many problems. No matter how good a coach is (and I am not conceding Jones to be a good coach), you gotta have the horses. I expect Jones to field what will be pretty much a season-starting roster in the exhibition games to silence the critics and hope to inspire the team. Without a miracle, the Riders will be looking at 5 or 6 wins with a bit of luck, but I think Glenn will be treated for PTSD before Labour Day.

Predicting  a west-to-east crossover may be a tad premature. By my admittedly amateur estimation, every team in the east has a better QB and coach than the Roughies and I argue that only Montreal has a GM who is as bad as Jones. It would give me great pleasure if Sask got bumped out by an eastern team. It could happen.

The last coach's show he had with Reinbold in the studio was the most cringe worthy radio I had ever heard.

IIRC a caller started off with faint praise for the coach and then completely flamed him. The caller was relentless, and it seemed to go on and on...All the while Coach just took the abuse.

Meanwhile,  Irving just let it play out. He could have cut the guy off but didn't. In hindsight, Reinbold took it like a pro.

    Compelling radio for the time.

I recall that Bob sounded relieved that a caller actually  took Reinbold to task. Memorable, because, according to a gentlemen's agreement, Bob was not allowed to be critical of Reinbold or any BB coach.
