Dascow got a reaction from Bigblue204 in Henoc Muamba signs with Als
The Bombers give up on average 115 yards per game and are 8th of 9 in total rushing yards given up.  They are also 8th of 9 teams in yards per carry.  So yes, I would spend that money to get an elite national MLB.

The biggest difference between Hurl and Muamba is that Muamba can make tackles at the line of scrimmage or on the other side of the line, whereas Hurl makes every tackle 5 or 10 yards down the field.

Then when you add the fact that Muamba is a special teams demon and that this team is in dire need of one of those, then yes, I would have spent that money.

But that's the thing.  If that call gets made in the 2nd quarter, then the Bombers would at least have a chance to make up for it.  When that call happens on 3rd down with 40 seconds left in the game, it takes the game out of the Bombers hands and into the refs.

You make that call at that time at that spot on the field and you basically give the other team the game.  At that point they had a chance, but that chance was taken away.

I can't disagree with you. What you are describing is the big picture and you are very much correct.

Within the big picture there are always pivotal moments  that help shape the big picture.  I can understand when the Bombers screw up and shape their own destiny, in regards to a playoff birth, but when the refs step in at a pivotal moment and directly effect the game, it leaves a bitter taste.  Let the players screw it up for themselves...lol.

    Good point!

How about the second thing, (The first being a healthy QB as Noeller pointed out), this team is missing is a second top flight Canadian starter.

I guess my point is, when you have a chance to attain a top flight Canadian, you do everything in your power to get him.  For me, this is kind of a no brainer.

Muamba and it's not even close. Star NI's play every down. You hope that backup QB's don't get to see the field for more than 3 or 4 games.

Dascow got a reaction from blitzmore in Lawless: Chill Out, Let Miller & Co Do Their Jobs
The problem with the Lawless article is that it lacks nuance.

He treats Miller/Walters/Oshea as a single entity, which they are not.  It is possible to fire only one of those three.

I have no problem with firing a head coach after 2 seasons.  Every other team in this league has done that, and much worse to be honest, and it hasn't stopped them from winning a Grey Cup.  Greg Marshall was hired in 2011 as the head coach of the Riders and was fired 8 games into the season. Cory Chamblin took over in 2012 and won the Grey Cup in 2013.  They saw the change that needed to be made and they didn't hesitate.

I'm not saying that Wade Miller needs to fire O'Shea, but I am saying he needs to think long and hard about it.

Walters on the other hand, I think needs to stay.  You cannot judge a GM after only 1 1/2 years. (I'm not counting the little bit where he took over for Mack.) I said it when Mack was here and I'll say it now while Walters is in charge, a GM needs at least 3 to 5 years to be properly evaluated.  Firing your GM every 2 years is really bad for the club.  That's why it's really important to get it right when hiring a GM because he's going to be there awhile. I think Walters has shown enough so far to stick around.  There are definitely things that he is doing, or isn't doing, I am critical about, but I still think he deserves more time. At least 3 years.

Wade Miller is the obvious one for me.  You can't fire your CEO after one year because of one hiring that you don't like.  There is a pecking order.  First goes the head coach, then the GM.  Then and only then can you even contemplate getting rid of him.
After the second GM gets fired and there's still no Grey Cup, then I would contemplate firing him.

I agree with you that Hurl isn't great in space.  He tends to overcommet too early which makes it easy for the RB or WR to get around him.

He also isn't that great in a crowd.

Hall has done a good job of mitigating that weakness, but only against teams that are not great at running the ball.

So they were fine against Calgary, who doesn't have Cornish at the moment and they were fine against Hamilton who also don't really have a great running game.

However, when they played a team with a running game, they get run over.
Against Toronto, Kackert ran over our D with 12 carries for 74 yards at 6.0 yards per carry.
Against BC Harris ran over our D with 117 yards on 24 carries.
Against Edmonton Bell ran for 95 yards on 12 carries at 7.9 yards per carry.
When we did play Calgary with Cornish he ran over our D for 120 yards on 15 carries at 8 yards per carry.

What's going to happen this weekend and next weekend when we face Messam again?
    I shudder to think.

As it stands, I like our defence, but if we can aquire someone like Lemon to add some more pass rushing ability and substitute Hurl with Wild I would really like our D.  Those 2 moves could put this defence over the top.

Replace Hurl with Wild and add a pass rusher and the front 7 would be vastly improved.

I like how for all intents and purposes, you just eliminated Willy from the equation to push your agenda further ahead despite the fact that he's been equally productive to pretty much every single one of those quarterbacks.

Willy is throwing touchdowns at a higher clip than Collaros and Bo Levi, he's throwing interceptions less often than those two AND Harris, he's completing a higher rate of his passes than every one of them but Harris and on top of that, his yardage per attempt is the highest of the bunch.

You can keep pushing your agenda all you want, QB talent can succeed in this league in many different ways. As long as the talent is there, the production can be as well. Willy's biggest issue right now is that his play caller blows. But please ... keep telling me more about how Drew Willy is not the "right type of CFL QB"

If I recall correctly, the pass to Richards was not a well thrown ball, which is why Richards was laying on the turf to catch it.  It did hit his hands though, so he should have had it.

Watching Brohm out there was frustrating.  I wanted to see Marve as well and could not understand why they where not putting him in.

But, if Marve was hurt then that would explain it.
