It's a positive thing that we are looking to improve and address areas where we've seen far too many lackluster performances.  Will it pay off?  Who knows.  He may flame out or simply not adjust to the Canadian game but I'm glad they are bringing in guys to push people who may have gotten complacent.

The lack of practice reps has been though.

When you consider how Pierce dominates reps throughout the week in preparation for a game .. only to get hurt .. then the backups are being thrown into the fire without adequate preparation .. how can you expect anyone to excel?   As a backup, in that situation, you don't get a chance to develop chemistry with your receiver and you don't get the bulk of the practice reps as packages are implemented for that week - especially when Buck's availability is still in question and he's still sucking down reps in the off chance he can go.    Not exactly a recipe for success.

The one thing I sincerely hope is that the media (TSN especially) stops parroting this false idea that Buck Pierce gives this team the best chance to win.   His play, over the last season and a half, has been absolutely terrible.  His inability to stay healthy robs the team of any chance to develop chemistry / timing with his receivers.  It cripples any other quarterback's ability to prepare week in week out.

Look no farther than this season.  They finally take the leash off Pierce, let him play his game .. let him be mobile .. he gets hurt.  We simply *HAVE* to draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough .. time to move on.

Time to put your design skills to the test!

The moderators here at MorningBigBlue.com are inviting all interested members to submit to us your best logo design that will be featured front and centre on the community forum.  We will be using the logo to replace the basic “Morning Big Blue – A Winnipeg Blue Bomber Fan Community” text header you see on each page, as well as for any other external use such as link swapping, cross website advertising, etc.

Please adhere to the following specifications:

-Must be 100 pixels in height

    -500-1000 pixels in total length

-Should incorporate the blue and gold colors as seen on the site

-Should incorporate the phrase “Morning Big Blue”

-Background of the design MUST BE transparent

-Use of the Blue Bombers “W” logo or any other trademarked branding is prohibited

-Final design must be submitted as a .png file extension

Put your creativity to the test, and see what you can come up with.  The contest will run until September 15th and the winning logo will be chosen by a majority vote of the moderation team soon after.

The moderators have also collaborated, and the winning designer in addition to the satisfaction of having their creation front and centre on the site, will also receive a $50 gift card to the Bomber Store.

You can enter as many different logos as you like.  Please submit all entries by email to logocontest@morningbigblue.com

    Good luck!

Not to be outdone by the shakeup in the Winnipeg Blue Bomber front office, we decided it was time for a bit of a shakeup at Morning Big Blue.   No, we aren't replacing Mike with KelownaBomberFan.   For those of you using the main theme, you will have found a bit of a brighter Bomber Blue and Gold when you logged in.  The site layout and navigation is pretty much the same, and should be familiar, it has just been updated with a new paint job.  Take a long look at that gold bar up top where it says Morning Big Blue - A Winnipeg Fan Community and put your creative hats on, we will be launching a contest soon to replace that text with an official site logo.   We've also recently added a weekly Pick 'Em pool starting this weekend (Get your picks in before tomorrow!). As well, Blue Bomber articles from the Sun and Free Press are now being syndicated into our new News Feed forum.   We are going to be experimenting a little bit with ads on the site over the next little while. You will see blank gaps in certain places of the site while we go through the approval process. If the revenue that comes out of this is negligible, then they will eventually go away.  If it can offset the cost of running the site, then great!   If it brings in more then costs, then it will be invested back into the site.  I will promise that the ads will be in appropriate places and not cover content.     Happy to say that we have recently passed 200 registered members.  We've had over 13,000 posts in over 400 threads since moving to the new forum software, with over 3,500 of those posts coming in August alone.  Buchko and Mack being fired had a helping hand in that.   I think we hit a record with that thread with 590 posts and 11,000 views.   It has been a tumultuous time in Bomber land these past few weeks, and that usually means increased work for moderators as people's temper and emotions get the best of them.  Happy to say that there has been very few issues that we've had to deal with.  The discussion has been excellent, on point, and civilized.  Thank you all for your contributions!   There are no major changes planned at this point.  Some items that are out there and being thought about:   I would like to get the Twitter feed back on the site.  Still trying to find a way to do this without causing load errors in IE8.
Speaking of Twitter.  There is an addon that would tweet out created topics through the @MorningBigBlue twitter handle.  It would allow you to get updates of current topics in your Twitter timeline.  Debating whether or not this would be useful or more on the side of spam on Twitter.  If there is interest in this, let me know.
We now have quite a few contests going on.  Including the CFL Drafts, the Lock of the Week (special thanks to Jpan85 for running this!), Pick 'Em pools.  If there is interest I have been eyeing another feature to allow "betting".  It wouldn't be real money.  It would be something along the lines of people who participate getting a set amount of fake currency to start with and making weekly bets with it.  Purely for bragging rights.  If there is interest in this, let me know.   As always, your feedback is important to us.  Is something on the site bugging you?  Let us know.  We can try to change it (or at least let you know why we can't).  Have a suggestion to make the site better, tell us about it.  Think we are doing a good job? Well we love to hear about that as well!   Now lets go get a win this weekend.  Go Bombers!

There were flat out drops that killed us in that game .. coming out of the shadow of our own goal posts .. also in the BC red zone .. receivers (Matthews) squeezes a couple of balls and the game could have been much different.  The simple fact is Goltz is a young quarterback.  He *IS* going to improve with playing time.  Pierce, on the other hand, is not only starting to break down (physically) but mentally as well.  He is holding onto the ball way too long.  He's taking unnecessary sacks.  He's inaccurate . injury prone and killing this team because he can't finish games.

very interesting presser. Miller was in a very clear way, implying that the Bomber system was broken and needed to be addressed tout de suite.

Miller: "Kyle's in charge of running the football operations and working in that and this is a change that this organization is going through where we actually work together and proper people are making the right decisions now in terms of players, of who's playing each week."

that quote came out of the discussion about asking Walters who would be setting the depth chart. Miller's answer clearly implies that it was not always the HC who had final authority in that matter before and that Mack was sticking his nose in Burke's beeswax.

all in all, it was a good move by Miller to do this. the company he's in charge of appeared like a gongshow with nobody in charge. Miller has shown that not only is he in charge, but that he has clearly delineated and communicated the roles of his subordinates. very astute of him and very un-Bomberlike.

    Couldn't agree more.
There is no sense in trading for a 'franchise quarterback' or a 'quaterback of the future' if you aren't going to be able to protect him and put that player in the best possible position to succeed. Offense starts and ends on the line. Without protection, a quarterback can't throw the ball. Without being able to open running lanes a running back is going nowhere and won't be able to take pressure off a young, developing quarterback. The key for future success (offensively) is to rebuild the offensive line.

This is a concern I have as well.

Mack burned a lot of political capital and good will sticking to his plan .. stock piling draft picks and replenishing our non-import depth.  One can argue that the top end talent isn't there (yet) but the overall depth of that talent has certainly been improved.  We are now in the best position we have been for years when it comes to the draft and it allows us to draft for immediate needs (to push incumbents and guys who've been on the PR for a season or two) and for the future (taking the odd flier on a guy who may spend time down south).  I'm hoping the new staff won't be short sighted and look for the quick fix.

The fans are a large reason why the team reached and fell flat .. the organization caved to howling masses who demanded an end to the drought .. not down playing the terrible hires and fires .. but the fans here in Winnipeg can't wait to build a strong viable franchise .. they demand instant gratification ..

Not to drag up old arguments, but you guys are dead wrong on this. There's a reason this land is still undeveloped. It STINKS. Literally. The mushroom plant is across the street. Rothesay rendering is around the corner. Plus TRAINS. I worked right there for a decade. That idea was laughable, and the stadium design was a bare-bones joke. Don't pretend we aren't way ahead being where are today, because that site would not survive and would have been the laughingstock of the stadium world, never mind the cfl.
