If they let Nichols go then they better sign a veteran like Masoli to take his place as Streveler isn't ready to be #1. He needs another veteran in front of him. He's at his best when he comes in with a package.

100%! People go blind when talking about strev because he’s cool and parties and has the hearts of the fans. This tends to lead to them over looking that he isn’t starting material yet.

I agree he's a bit over-hyped, but man, dude played a month on a broken foot and absolutely laid it all on the line for this organization. You can't tell me he wasn't an instrumental part of our O this year. Even when his game was off, defenses had to plan and play around him, he completely changed the dynamic when he subbed in for our starter - whether it was Nichols or Collaros.

If nothing else, he's the best QB sneaker in the league and that alone is worth something.

I think we should give him starting money based alone on his sneaking skills.

Most QBs don’t set the league on fire their first or second seasons. Streveler has looked far better than Fajardo did in his first two seasons. When you have a guy with immense raw talent, you cultivate it. Streveler’s issues as a passer are largely teachable things like not forcing throws. The arm talent is there.

I mean we have also seen qbs with better arms talent get less of a shot. And don’t get me wrong I’m fine to keep him if we got a veteran qb in front of him, but let’s not act like there isn’t a bias towards him.

Let's hope Mason Bennett gets just enough NFL interest to drop to us.

Heard he absolutely tore it up for UND in the FCS playoff game last weekend, 2 sacks and 2 TFL's.  UND still lost.

I thought I read somewhere that he was the all time sack leader at und. Don’t forget about Joseph at penn state too. Very good DE who could excel in cfl and probably won’t get much nfl interest.

I'm sure Walter's is not thinking, "Oh, I can't re-sign Collaros, I'll lose that pick!" If the Bombers decide he is their best option for 2020, they WILL offer him a contract.

Actually I would say that does play into his decision, he has to way the pros and cons of paying for zach vs the Canadian talent that is available. My point was meant to target that a Canadian de was leaving and really the only way to replace him would be the draft.

THE CLUB SIGNS PLAYERS TO FUTURES CONTRACTS

WINNIPEG, MB., December 3, 2019 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed the following players to futures contracts beginning in 2020:

American receiver Devin Lucien (6-2, 200, Arizona)
American receiver ArDarius Stewart (6-0, 205, Alabama)
American running back James Williams (6-0, 205, Washington State)

Considering these guys have nfl experience and come from big time programs, they should blow everyone out of the league right? Well that’s what my American friends tell me anyways. “Any college team, even some high school teams could beat a cfl team” I’m almost starting to think my friends don’t watch football.

There is usually a big difference between the first player picked & the 9th. This isn't the NCAA. It's U Sports & maybe there are a half dozen really good CFL ready players in the first round, usually.  The Draft's just a crap shoot. So, losing that first rounder may not be that big a deal.

This is not true. In the early rankings this year 8 out of the top 10 players come from NCAA programs, with the other two coming from Laval. One of the Laval players is also getting invites to showcase games down in the states. While this year there isn’t a lot of depth to the draft, the first two rounds are full of talent.

I think we make Collaros a decent offer. Not over the top, saving room for the OL, D and a good increase for Streveler.

Whatever verbal deal Collaros may have had with TO, may have changed after winning the lat 4 games without getting his bell rung and going into offseason with the GC win.

If not, I think we roll with Strevy and McGuire. McGuire look promising, but so does just about every other backup we've ever had. Strevy keeps learning and improves passing game, he could be very very good. It may be his time.

I've watched new QBs like Evans, Adams etc run around, escape pressure and chuck the ball downfield for a big gain or TD. Unfortunately that doesn't happen when Nichols get's pressure.

I like Nichols and I appreciate his contribution to the team so far. Emotions aside I think it's time to move on.

So go into the season only with a qb who has a handful of starts and the back up being a qb who has 3 throws all together? Yikes

It's pretty obvious that if MOS wants to stay here then he will. Collaros said all kinds of great things about O'Shea that he is a leader of men, etc. He knows what he has here but doesn't in Toronto so he may be willing to sign with the Bombers again. A sure thing vs the Unknown.

So I think MOS will stay here, but their is massive baggage with zach, injury, the 1st rounder with him. Zach won a cup he may chase the most money now.

Eli was one of the top..if not the top center prospect coming out of the NCAA  going into his final year until he got hurt...was a true 3 year starter and sure fire NFL draft pick...but then stories came about he was done...and fell off radar...was pure luck McManus was married to family of his...and then Eli had some chats..and rediscovered he had the bug to play, but nobody knew...we got a steal of epic proportions on that one..

Yep. Eli is most likely in the NFL if he doesn’t get hurt. I think that last draft we got some really talented players, that should not be in the cfl but rather the nfl. (Eli, kongbo, and even drew and Brady has nfl teams looking at them)

I feel like Collaros was he Bombers version of a deadline rental.

I feel like we might lose Couture just due to other guys we have under contract.

I'd be happy to keep Hall but does he go out as a winner?

Losing couture is fine imo, speller did fine and tui has potential to be one of the best. Little know but when he was in college he was in consideration for an award (can’t remember the name of it) for the best centre in all of college football! Granted college is different than the pros. And I doubt collaros wants to move again. My thought would be he would like to go east. Most likely Toronto or maybe even Hamilton back up?

I said....." things are looking up at the QB position it seems now "..... I never claimed nothing but that, yer gonna have to find somebody else to pretend argue with...I am havin another beer and reading all the fun stuff from today's parade now....

Hey we are Both  just giving our opinions, not everything is an argument and Well you did bring up his throw, and you did bring up his college days so... but hey enjoy your beer

You seen him place that ball perfectly for Harris for the TD on Sunday...... you have read booches stats on Big Chris' college days..  and his passing stats in his final year.....   things are looking up at the QB position it seems now..... enjoy it.  I am.

Haha trust me I’m enjoying it. But it’s a fan forum where discussion is encouraged. But the way I look at it, you want players who are gonna give your team the best chance to win at the right cost. So I have no problem bringing him back at the right cost. I’ve also stated I’m fine with moving on from Matt and strev and Lapo all together. And yes he made a good throw. If making one throw defines his career then I’m sure we can look back at all the other qbs who have had a good throw and got cut. And what do his college stats have to do with anything? College is a totally different game then professional football.

  14. 13 minutes ago, NorthernSkunk said:

Even if he comes back next year his leash will be so short it will become embarrassing for him.  His first turtle and the crowd would be chanting for Big Chris...... if Matty is okay with giving up a fair amount of playing time to help the next QB develop then it may work...

And if strev continues with his way being a rb at qb, then what?

Even tho there is going to be this apparent 2 QB rule for guys allowed on game day roster it doesn't mean that teams won't/cant have a 3rd ready to roll on the PR or on the undressed portion of the active roster...to handcuff a team like that would be ludicrous

There will be a provision or spot for at minimum a 3rd somewhere, or if not the 3rd on a team will be on a PR but not paid the PR minimum..

I’m not saying teams won’t have a third qb on the pr. I meant that I don’t think McGuire would take that pr spot. Obviously this is speculation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one of Matt, Chris or Sean isn’t on the roster next year

I wouldn't think so either but with all our QBs being free agents they need to consider these things.. the closer they get to Free agency the more worried i will be.

Big Chris needs to come back.. he presence and results are part of the identity of the Team.. And i'm Leaning toward collaros vs nichols if they can do that.  He appears to be a good fit and regained his stardom that i thought he had lost.

To think, they called in Drew, the now limp, willy.. **** that could have been brutal.

But if Lapo is gone, the offence could look completely differnt next year. Are there any proven OCs that we can hire?

So either one of Matt and Chris or zach and Chris. That means McGuire goes on the pr.  Stalls his development or we lose him totally. Or we go with strev and McGuire and too me that sounds like a scary situation going into the new year.

It isn't just that it is a longer delivery but that it comes up from underneath. Anyway, I'm done discussing it as I feel that my original post on ZC was complimentary and I don't want to be picking apart a Grey Cup Winning starting QB less than 24 hours after his greatest triumph.

Not disagreeing it comes from underneath, but it has never led to fumbles without being hit. And well don’t bring something up on a fan forum if you don’t want to discuss it haha
