Sure, tell an American coach who has spent little or no time in this country as a coach with no ratio to adhere to on his team that a football player from Dauphin, MB is better than a football player from Lincoln, Nebraska. Where Americans have better coaching & competition they'll keep a Canadian over an American.

Ahh here we go, coaching bias. While yes there is some bias from American coach’s, wouldn’t it mean they are a bad coach if they kind determine who is the better talent? But you are also assuming the the guy from dauphin (let’s say Troy Westwood) is a better football player than the American. Also which coach in the cfl hasn’t already been in the cfl for a long time or is a Canadian.

So, on a CFL team, we'll have 36 Americans, 7 Canadians & 2 Internationals. Yeah, that'll grow the game for sure in this country.

Nope never said that at all. But go ahead and put words in my mouth. If you take away the 21 minimum rule doesn’t mean you take all Americans in their place. It means you take the best available player whether it be global, American or Canadian.

But you are for taking out Canadians. You said you wanted to see the ratio eliminated which means Canadians won't play if teams aren't mandated  to do so. Kids in high school won't play football if they have little or no chance to play in the CFL. Which means football at the U Sports level will dry up. These Canadian players that are getting chances to play in the NFL today coming out of U Sports won't have that chance anymore because most won't be offered NCAA scholarships. Football will cease to be a serious organized sport in this country.  That's why the Canadian ratio in the CFL is so important even if guys like Jeff Hecht play.

Well I actually said keep 7 Canadian starters but get rid of the min of 21 Canadian rule. But we will just have to agree to disagree bcuz we are just gonna go in circles

As I said, they won't be the best players. Far from it. Be careful what you wish for. This is a uniquely CANADIAN league.  Canadian players are a huge part of the history & also part of the fabric of the CFL. Some Canadians were part of the best players who ever played. You take that out of it & the league may not survive.

Well I’m not for taking out Canadians, but my questions still stands, why wouldn’t the best players play?

  5. 17 minutes ago, SpeedFlex27 said:

You won't have the best players playing. That's a fallacy. It'll be guys who were out of the NFL unemployed. Or college players not good enough to play anywhere. Some will be good. Others won't be. You saw the AAF last year. The CFL will become that. Attendance will be affected because most fans will be upset Canadians don't play anymore. Perhaps the tv contract with TSN is affected too because the CFL doesn't play Canadians. A significant percentage of fans would not watch the CFL anymore. Salaries will fall with cheaper & younger American players. With no more Canadian players, the rules will become 4 down football. Lots of possible fallout if the ratio is removed.

Ok well yes and no.  But let me ask why wouldn’t the best players be playing?

What do you think the reaction would be across the country if the ratio was eliminated? Think about it.

It probably would be a negative reaction, so why not this. Have a mandatory 7 Canadian starters but take out the min of 21 Canadians on roster. This way we don’t have to watch guys like Jeff Hecht play

You know, I believe that Canadian qbs should be developed but I'm not going to keep defending my opinion on every anti Canadian qb poster here who doesn't agree. It's my opinion & time to move on.

So I’m anti Canadian qb bcuz I want the best of the best playing regardless if they are American Canadian global? And ya they should get developed, but that starts with better university programs.

  8. 16 hours ago, SpeedFlex27 said:

There are qbs in U Sports who can play but need a chance to develop. But simply saying they can't is painting every qb with a wide brush. I don't agree with your assessment. Now when I say develop a Canadian qb I don't mean every one on every team in U Sports. However, if a player shows potential he should get the chance. Maybe that's 1 qb every 3 to 5 years. Like the 2 Canadian qbs on the Argos roster from Laval & UBC. Perhaps Chris Merchant from Western. They should get a legit shot at making a CFL team. As far as producing quick dividends developing Canadian OL that has sure proven to be wrong. Look how long it took Michael Couture to become a starter & Goosen before him. Every team has OL from U Sports that took years to develop. It's not easy nor is it a given these OLwill become CFL starters.

So why not get rid of the ratio and let the best man play? If the cis qbs are good enough they should beat out the college ones.

Why is everyone okay with letting Adams walk? He was still our most impactful receiver in playoffs

    11-10
    22 CGY 2 6 105 1 52.5 71
    11-17
    23 SSK 4 8 93 0 23.3 63

     60+ yard touchdown against Calgary.
60 yard reception against Sask when we were pinned at our goal line.
Quiet in the cup with 2 of 3 with one drop for 11 yards, but still.

We can't afford to lose our one international receiver who has actually shown he is capable of explosion plays.

I never said I’m ok with him walking. He’s been our best wr for the past 3/4 years. I just don’t think he will get re-signed. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think they will pay him the 160k+ he deserves.

I kinda expect that Jefferson, Rose & Sayles will sign an NFL deal.

So among our pending FAs, my only must re-signs are:
Strevy (if he will not land a NFL deal)
    One of Nichols and Collaros
    Bryant

    Maybe Adams and Nevis

The rest I can live without.

I would say expect Nichols to re-sign and Nevis. I like Adams but with Bailey and lawler and whitehead plus the talented wrs they have signed from neg lists, don’t expect him to be back.

Its not like the trilogy bar was set high with Ep 6 and Ep 3.

Well yes and no. They have flaws, but there was a story that it was telling. Ep 7,8 have been all over the place, terrible story line, cheesy line, bad acting. I could go on and on about how the new ones are terrible, but the originals and sequels at least were connected together and told a good story. These new ones seem like more of an extension of something that didn’t need to be extended.

Nichols saved a couple of jobs when Walters picked him up from the discard pile and gave long-suffering Bomber fans hope for the first time in a long while, so he deserves to be honored for that. However time changes almost everything. Nichols is on the wrong side of 30 and has suffered some serious potentially career-ending injuries and nothing is going to change that. LaPolice needs a pivot who is a plug-and-play for LaPolice's offence and Nichols would be a good fit for that and has credibility as well. Walters and O'Shea have a tough choice to make, and not everyone is going to be pleased with the outcome, no matter what it will be.

Qb is actually gonna leave the team in some tough decisions, all veteran qbs have some serious injury history where you don’t know how much longer they have or if they can still perform. Then you got young guys, Arbuckle who played in Calgary so of course his passing numbers will look good and strev who has not shown he can be a consistent starter. Gonna be a tough choice and leave some fans unhappy

I'm not worried about the offensive line especially center where we have Speller and Eli already.  Where we are low on Canadian talent its defense. We need to have a National on the field at all times.  Without Kongbo we would need to play Jake Thomas and a rotationary Canadian DT to keep him fresh at all times.  Perhaps we would look at moving on from Kyrie Wilson and starting Jesse Briggs at linebacker.  We seemed to be fine when we were starting a Canadian at WILL when Biggie was out.

To fix the Canadian ratio and keeping an all American dline, all that needs to be done is find a Starting Canadian safety. Then we don’t have to talk about stupid things like replacing Wilson.

The AVERAGE skill in import players is actually probably relatively close.  Average TEAM skill will have a greater disparity due to the fact that, on average, NATL players in the CFL are less skilled (because they are being chosen from a smaller talent pool).

Finally, the area IMO where the skill disparity is the MOST SIGNIFICANT is in the "Elite" players.  The fact is that the Hall of Fame quality NFL players are fairly significantly more skilled than equivalent Hall of Fame quality CFL players. There are some exceptions, of course, where an athlete who would have been a hall of famer NFL player ends up in the CFL due to politics and never heads south... but I'd say that's the exception rather than the rule.

I would also argue that the CFL probably has an edge in player skill for "unusually dimensioned" athletes (i.e. short middle linebackers) due to the fact that the CFL is less political in giving guys with good college histories who don't match up well with NFL expectations a shot.

Totally agree! I just get sick of hearing that the cfl is trash because it’s not the nfl.

Thanks, I don't think I ever heard that from Biggie... makes sense though because he definitely performed well enough to earn a spot.

Just goes to show that the skill gap from cfl to nfl isn’t as big as people think. The idea that everyone in the nfl is better then everyone in the cfl is silly. Nfl Is a politic driven league

Darvin inwoukd hope is back..adds the grit in the corp and hopefully Lawler..Bailey take next step..even Whitehead or one if the new guys coming in..we still need a vet presence out there tho so Darvin would fit that nicely as the number 2 guy..or 3

I’m really Intrigued by ArDarius Stewart, big strong body, played at bama and reason he is out of the nfl is due to discipline and drug problem I believe. Kind of reminds me of a duke Williams

He has already improved from when he got here..and like I said, in a prototypical offence..with real reps and not modified gimmickry he can and will get better.

And sure..u can never compare any league from one to the other..but...if u have excelled at a level..within that level of competion getting to next level is almost the same..having played in all levels..prep schools..JC..NCAA and then stints and camps in CFL and NFL I can assure u that top players can elevate to match each level..for qb routes trees are same..looks the same..coverages the same..talent is better for u and against you..but if u throw for anything over 3000 in a college year..you can pass

His measurables yeah if he was at national combine would be top of class.. tools are there..as is the brain..only thing that kept NFL types away was the inexperience and the fact they would need a yr or 2 of patience and work to progress him..but in the business of NFL that wouldn't happen..the politics.. money to do it..buried 4 deep never getting any reps..but in Canada it has been perfect and Winnipeg is allowing and able to follow the pre draft narrative for him..and we are gonna reap the benefits of it

I’m not denying his potential, or his measurables being better than everybody else’s. And there is an argument to be made that coaching can hold a guy back or push them forward, but at some point the guy has to show that he can adapt to whatever to show he is a real superstar. His throwing has improved, but still not at the point of being an effective passing qb, but yes his run game is the best there is. And don’t get me wrong, I think he has potential to be a dual threat qb, but in a league where results are important, he hasn’t shown anything to make people believe that he is anywhere close. It still leaves me with the question of how long can we wait on a guy like this? 1,2,3 years? Like I said, I agree with you on his potential, but gotta disagree with his improvement or his ability to show he’s a passer.

Mechanics are not terrible..he is an arm thrower, or what is refereed to in Draft profiles/classifications as unorthodox..but isn't viewed as a flaw or negative mark. Watch Phillip Rivers as an example..same mechanics and an 18 year vet with no arm issues over career and very successful.

Strevelers report was a strong arm with a quick trigger and ball is gone with a flick of the wrist with steam/heat. He needed work on his platform..which has gotten way better, because his un-even footwork caused uncoordinated throwing at times, but still he was able to get ball away in a hurry and with power.

Was also viewed as a QB who hits a receiver's catch radius accurately and timely and gives his receivers a chance to win the ball and has plenty of distance on deep throws but is hit and miss...but that (hit and miss)  can be said about any QB. But with work on his set-up and footwork it can/will improve...we have seen that already.

Also from my work at camps, we have improved QB's deep ball accuracy and downfield power with correcting footwork and improving their platform...so if we can do it with guys preparing for combines and drafts, it can be done with a Pro..he hasn't had the 10 years of QB training like most college graduates...so he is progressing on the fly as a pro

Was viewed as a terrific pro RPO prospect just needed quality coaching and a program to show patience for a couple of seasons, (something being done here right now) as his athleticism and lightening release will create a winner, and a team should fit his style into there system...interestingly enough a lot of his pre-draft analysis seems to be coming to fruition and I bet next year, he makes a huge step forward.

At minnesotta he played some qb..total attempts in 2 years was 11 as well as RB, TE and WR...but when he switche to South Dakota, in his final season was 316 for 481 for 4134 yards (a 8.6 td per attempt avg) for 32 TD's and 8 INT's...surely a passing QB considering he also had 720 yards on the ground for 11 more scores..a run first/only QB with an inferior arm doesn't put up those kind of numbers...And as his scouting report says..team that puts in the patience and coaching...will be rewarded...no point in giving up on that now

While you make some good points, you can’t compare his stats from a FCS college team to his current situation. If we start doing that, then we should take a look at Brian Brohm again. (Settle down its a joke). But by looking at his college stats, he is the second best qb to come out if Louisville, second to Lamar Jackson. Now this doesn’t mean I think we should give up on strev right now. I do think they should re-sign him. But we have to be real, how long do we hold onto the guy? If he can’t show any improvement on throwing, or show to be a starting qb, the team is doing more damage to itself in the long run.
