Not like anyone is suggesting bring in Geno Lewis as a #1 option, just as a veteran guy who brings a type of receiver we lack and might be able to make some plays and help the offense from the standpoint of he could be a supplemental guy in an offense that realistically needs to spread the ball around to be successful. Not like you'll find anyone better at this point in the season. Plus signing a veteran with a reputation of being a top guy (even if he's well past it) might give some other guys a bit of a kick in the ass to step it up.

Could also tell you his QB is struggling. If you bothered to look you would see that 15 of 17 missed catches were 20+ yards where Maier is throwing less than a 20% completion rate amongst all of his receivers. But if you'd rather assume and make up conclusions based on stat lines you are free to do so. Fans dont get paid to make decisions based on all the facts. Fact is that Lewis is a deep ball specialist that was playing with a QB that is a terrible deep ball passer.

We have had almost 10 years of pretty solid football here, 10 years almost of having a chance every year. For 5 6 of those we were dominant really, lost a few finals but patriots lost to the giants in the finals. It happens. Entitlement as fans tho, seems we in that phase also.

No surprise there. methinks he finally found a home where he's appreciated. He still is a streaky qb but they won't find anyone better in free agency.

Even pros need to..and have to work on even the basic fundamentals..as bad habits creep in fast...and then become the Instinctive move But I agree...when we were successful we had guys like Biggie..BA..Adams...Bailey..guys who took zero bs..to lesser extent Woli and a few others who quietly led...Bryant as well who didnt have to say anything but when he did...everyone listened..prob still do but sadly his on field stuff is shell of what it was They self policed and managed the team...it was in cruise control but now cruise is off and the coaches can't drive...part is talent..a lot coaching..but I still stand with the notion the HC made poor choices

I was in the upper deck concourse during the second half of the Calgary game having a drink and chatting... when BA walked by... I just tapped him on the should and said "we need more guys like this playing back there"... he just chuckled and said "thanks, I appreciate that"

Lewis criticized the offensive scheme and playcalling in the red zone. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Dinwiddie's super sized ego got bruised. Likely some of his team mates weren't happy with his words either. The truth hurts sometimes. I would wager that with Lewis's best before date behind him, Ottawa clearly playing for next year, and Lewis calling out his team mates that Dinwiddie just figured it's best to remove him from the equation now before other team mates start thinking they can put the truth to words. Same reason he got rid of Brown, Lewis was becoming a "distraction". Lewis can still play the game at a high level. He's not at his peak anymore but if his salary demands for the remainder of the season aren't outrageous he would be a nice stop gap for us.
  8. 3 points
If Dinwiddie cut Lewis because of that interview then he is a bigger arsehole than I thought. Lewis was speaking the truth. There are guys on that Ottawa squad that don't want it badly enough & he made that pretty clear. Dinwiddie wears the GM, Scouting, HC, OC & QB Coach hats all at the same time. One man doing everything never works. He needs to be relieved of some of his duties. This is the problem with the Coach/Admin cap. Teams hire one guy & the more jobs he does means the more money they save much to the detriment of that team & its fans. The cap has to go.

Barbara Corcoran from Judy Lindsey realty would offer more as I said before Cobb I am okay with as canadian depth behind the top 3..he has purpose and really if/when on field if we used him in jet motion he would garner attention and allow us presnap to see who is covering...and one our vet receivers could see that open space and exploit it..that could be too complicated tho for TC Cobb does also have dependable hands and can do something after the catch if used appropriately...plus he won't hurt you on returns if pressed into duty 💯 percent

What qualifications do you have to even say what you did to Tracker? I don't see you coaching professionally? This is a fan forum. Tracker is entitled to post what he thinks whether you agree or disagree. He can discuss what he wants before you bring age into this. How old are you? I get the impression you ain't no spring chicken, either.
  11. 2 points
I want Lewis because he can be plugged in and play next game.... alternatively if we find a young American receiver this organization will keep him on the PR or sit him down and he would get if lucky 10 snaps in the regular season and will be completely raw if needed during play off time (assuming we make the play offs). It's so damn rare that this organization just gives any young guy a shot during the regular season unless we face multiple injuries. So with Lewis I'd hope O'Shea would start him since he is a known name.....
  12. 2 points
Lewis tho has a history and knack for the tough catches...we need that. As @wbbfan said as well some of his measurables are outside the norm of the typical 6'..6'-1" WR so as to why it seems like he is a bigger reciever...and why NFL teams go to the extremes in measurables with players...they look at everything ...literally Some of Browns INT's this yr were the direct result too of the receiver giving up zero fight for the ball...and just basically outmuscled out...Doesnt happen with Lewis, and in season past even Tho Lawler and Adams were slighter guys...but them..Bailey....even Woli could muscle their way into the reception and make a less than perfect throw sucessfull. Those balls with them as the recipient likely were not intercepted....that's where we lacking...Only guy we really have right now to be that kind of guy is Clercius and we havnt really integrated him back into things yet since he been back.. And really a WR in this day and age at 33 is hardly a player with a deficit...and sometimes just presence on the field alone would add room to the other guys...Fact of the matter adding him to a group with White, Pokey and Demski and either or of Clercius and Neild totally changes the look of that group and actually would have DC's in the league changing up how they run coverages on us....Especially if we get back to using BO as we should be

  16. Another very real possibility is that Geno was one of the guys in Brown's corner before the trade. Wouldn't be the first veteran quietly ushered out the door for not supporting a questionable coaching move. We may see more in Ottawa yet. Nope only the stats line counts. We must assume these were all on target passes to a wide open Geno. BTW, just the game vs Winnipeg alone there were 4 errant passes thrown his way...and that was Maiers best game of the season.

we need short term tho right now if we want a chance at playoffs...Lewis' skill set and what he good at isn't really an age dependent thing either in my opinion, especially coming in not having to be a big time number 1 home run hitter Sadly looking at the landscape its the only real option we can parachute in right now to immediately put in lineup and help...there gonna be no other gifts dropped into our laps. We all know even if Walters brought in the second coming of a young Bryant...Biggie...Bolden...Stegal...that Osh wouldnt play the anyway....a tired and true vet is the only kind of player that will break into a shitty Osh roster And his addition may also help the defense as it will surely mean the offence will stay on field longer helping in sustaining drives

Yeha....if the trinity pulls head out of arse you can turn a season around in the CFL in mid flight...Pieces are there...just a few minor tweaks and scheme adjusts...and a bit better roster optimizing, and not stopping the scouting and recruitment...should be an ever ongoing thing...There are guys out there if you look hard enough that could be dropped in and help this team now...no reason to wait till the off-season As for tackloing the best guy...prob last 3 yrs...Griffin was the only one really consistent with tackling...and actually used real technique...sadly he gone for the yr I'd say the next best in form and consistency is Smith...and prob one of the best on team in using his angles to close gaps....pursuit angles...and closing speed...But man what more does he have to do other than get some blackmail pics on Osh to get the damn gig
  21. 1 point
Do you believe the money we could spend on Lewis could be spent elsewhere, like on the OL or defense? I do agree with ShyGuy that an old team signing another old players isn't the way to go. It's a short term solution at best. Yeah, I know it's hard to find players with the NFL & UFL hoarding guys but we're supposed to have a scouting department that need to do their jobs. There is a dearth of hungry young receivers in the US. I've seen some of these guys in action at qb workouts in California, Oregon, Washington & Idaho. My reaction is why aren't some of they playing somewhere? Yeah, the NFL & UFL have taken some of guys like that. But not all of them. If they have agents or are in some kind of database then get cracking & find someone. We never seem to do that.

Height doesn't man anything unless you are very noticeably small. It's about a receivers ability to high point, concentrate and catch, and box out the defender that makes a good 50/50 guy. I'll take a 6-1 guy with a 36" vertical over a 6'4" guy with a 28 inch vertical for instance. Kenny Lawler, probably one the best 50/50 guys the league has seen over the past decade is of average height for instance. Body position, or rather the ability to be great at getting it, is probably the single biggest factor in 50/50 guys success. Some guys, like Lawler, are masters at gaining it even in the toughest coverage. Lewis made his bread and butter doing it as well.
  24. It's true that Lewis isn't physically huge. He is very similar in size to Schoen. But his skill set is a downfield one. He also has a virtually 6'6 " wingspan and almost 10" hands, which are pretty great downfield tangibles. 1-3 inches in height, 4-5 in length combine for a pretty big increase in catch radius. But being a downfield guy is as much a mentality and about physicality as anything. Arceneaux was a decent bit heavier, but that downfield guy was at a similar height. While dated, Milt is the greatest example of this. 6'0, 185, zero fear. Our wr core is basically small guys that play small. A big guy who plays big would be great. But everyone in every league is looking for that. An average-sized guy who plays big would be a big improvement.
  25. 1 point
Nailed it. At best, you might get a few true pro rookies up for early auditions in the late season. You aren't going to find turnkey replacement vets anymore. The only guys who trickle up in the same year will be extremely raw or limited. You're right, my bad! It seems like we are seeing more activity this year then in most seasons. There might be moves to be had other than scrap heap pick-ups. But I wonder if we might not end up sellers. The next 6 weeks we have 2 byes, 4 games against the best 3 teams in the league, and another against Ottawa. I think winning 2 games in that stretch is reasonably optimistic. If we underachieve that, we are basically cooked. If we do that, we will likely be playing for the crossover again. Which is a bad position to be in with an expensive, old team on short-term deals, and having just given up prime draft equity.
  26. 1 point
Tbf CFL lists Lewis at 6'0" (I see some references to him being 185cm so maybe closer to 6'1". Using 6 foot even would have him be 2 inches taller than Cobb and White, 1 inch taller than Demski, even with Wilson, and 3 inches shorter than Clercius and Nield. So he would not exactly be adding much height... Maybe a bit of weight because his listing of 200 gives him a bunch more girth compared to Cobb, Wilson and White
  27. 1 point
Don't bring context into the conversation, we are only to look at the stats as they read in black and white. That's why surface stats mean nothing. If Lewis runs this stat line with Bo Levi it's very concerning, if he runs it with Maier one has to consider that as he isn't a great deep ball thrower. Brown has a poor deep ball stat line but like you say it's largely because we lack that 50/50 receiver. TBurgess would argue that his deep ball stats prove we shouldn't bother with a 50/50 guy, most others would correctly argue that proves we absolutely need one. Then again, TB asked why we would want a 50/50 guy.....was that a serious question?
  28. 1 point
Obviously Lewis would (should?) be an improvement over the two NIs at the bottom of the WR corps im not sure he brings anything to the table that the current imports don't at this point. It would be kind of funny though for a team that can't let go of aging talent would bring in the 3rd oldest WR in the league (by my count only T Jones in CGY and Hardy in OTT are older) You would have to think they'd be able to find someone who shakes out of an NFL camp in the next few weeks that would at least be able to give that deep threat right!?! I imagine the league stat package follows the play by play which would include endzone yardage. Any play that is labelled as 'deep' is 20+ yards down field. One gap I do see is that interceptions are just labelled "interceptions" and no depth seems to be recorded in the play by play
  29. 1 point
Do you think some of that would be causation due to the fact that we have a very small WR core that isn't good downfield or in 50/50 situations?

The CFL publishes a stats package weekly and one of the stats is 20+ yards depth targets. CFL.ca2026 League Wide Statistics - CFL.caCFL.ca has a collection of the CFL's League Wide Statistical Report for every week of the 2026 season. The game notes for each game embeds the previous week's stats package as well. It ends up being pretty annoying to find these stats for previous years. You can find them by googling "2025 CFL pdf game stats" and it should show up for 2025 and 2024. For other years if you find the game notes for the Grey Cup (they are usually listed in the references on Wikipedia) that seasons can be found

Let's face it the whole situation in Ottawa is ripe for losing....It's a lost year....doesn't matter what the reason is that Lewis is leaving...Attitude, money, bad coach, could be a myriad of things...the fact is he has been cut....we need help and he still has game...Sign the guy and let him play his top game for us....lord knows we need a receiver of his caliber...IF we don't give this a shot then it'll be obvious we have written the season off as well...I'm sure Brown knows all the negatives about Geno...ask him if he'd be a good fit and at least talk to Lewis and show we still want to be in the running in the west....

we prob have to be the biggest offending team with guys diving at the shins trying to topple a ball carrier...or like you said...trying to make the big shoulder hit and either they bounce off...get trucked or the ball carrier just shrugs it off and keeps trucking I thought we got rid of the worst of the worst at that in Houston....obviously not...But fundamentally our tackling skill and technique here...mainly in the secondary are just horrible....and it can be easily fixed with doing some the things I mentioned in an earlier post and actually dedicating time to it in practice, and or having habitual offenders yanked from loneup to send a message...Both instances are coaching related and need to be adressed with coaching...but we have seen that for most part our coaching and how we go about the day to day things is sorely lacking too
  35. Qbs have to provide a catchable ball even on a 50/50. That's on Maier not on Lewis. Go back and look at the 4 tosses to him that count as targets in the game against us. 2 were underthrown badly, one was caught by him 6 yards out of bounds in the end zone, and the other was a throw away in which he was the closest receiver. That's four of 17 missed targets. 6 others came in the first game of the season against Edmonton where Maier was quite literally just spraying balls all over the field to no particular receivers at all. Every receiver for Ottawa had a bad day. But you keep on being you and letting stat lines dictate what's happening instead of actually watching and gaining proper context.

Our players know how to tackle just fine. You dont become a professional player without that fundamental. Its the commitment to doing so that needs improving. Guys trailing off while the play is still going, not giving themselves up to make the play, going for the hit instead of wrapping up...these are the issues. If our coach has to step in with Pop Warner skill development then our recruitment is absurdly bad. We need a giant dose of Bighill-like leadership on the field ASAP. Someone who is going to grab a guy by the face mask between plays and let them know what they did doesnt fly. These guys are not holding each other accountable on the field, or on the sidelines. After the game the HC and DC need to light them up..no doubt but during the game we need that leadership from players themselves. Not defending MOS but we have a massive hole in leadership within the dressing room imo. Someone, or a few guys, need to step up or Knute Rockne wont get these guys to win.

Its as obvious as could be that Lewis would help our offence. Let's see if Walters does his job. There is no rational reason why we wouldn't vigorously pursue him. History with Condell/Brown..check. Need by the Bombers..check. Tenured vet we could use as a naturalized IMP if we wanted..check. Its a no brainer. I could not foresee circumstance where our coaches would not welcome some receiver talent.

O'Shea got too used to the team stepping up in the clutch when it mattered and pulling a game out of the fire. Whether the talent sucks overall or not... Where the **** is the accountability by sitting guys down when they clearly aren't good enough? Even if you think the backup isn't good enough you need to hold poor play accountable. If the backup sucks too then tell the gm to find another guy and keep going through until you find something. We don't though and that's on the coaches. Honestly a guy like Stanley Bryant needs to get "injured" and live the rest of the season on the IR and retire. He gets beaten badly and takes penalties allllllll the time. Vanterpool looked fine at rt so when Broxton is back use those guys as your tackles and go from there. I don't mind white and Wilson as players, but if one of them was taller our offense would be a lot better. The only starter in our receiving group with any size is Nield and he plays soft too. On D.... I hope Jake Kelly's arms grow back soon so he can use them when trying to tackle. It makes no sense to me that smith isn't a starter. He is one of the best lbs on the team and one of the best Canadians so why we waste reps on the likes of Cobb or Daniels or Kelly or any of a host of other guys who aren't as good. The bottom line this roster is constructed incredibly poorly and the way it's built and the coordinators we have are at odds. Like there's no thought seemingly put into anything. They got so complacent with the vets running the room. That works when you got prime Bighill and prime Jefferson and prime a whole bunch of guys. Doesn't work when your vets are cooked and the guys in their prime should be depth by rights.

unfortunately this is just a bad football team now... there's a million examples from last night's game that could highlight that... but the one that keeps me up is the fourth quarter defensive performance... we were facing a one-dimensional team, playing their their back up RB and 3rd string QB who had clearly shown zero ability to pass the ball... basically we knew their only hope of coming back was running... and we let them run for close to 200 yards in the quarter to cruise to an easy victory... this is probably the most embarrassing loss in the Mike O'Shea era... this is the kind of loss that should lead to a full scale house cleaning this bye week... but thanks to coaching cap and "loyalty" we know that's not going to happen

I think every Bombers fan should be angry and scared about what the future is going to look like. However, I don't think it is fair to question Stanley Bryant's professionalism. He isn't coasting. I am sure he is doing everything he can, but he is 40. There are three offensive linemen in the CFL who are over 34 years old. Neufeld is 37 and Hardick is 36. The team needed to recruit and develop replacements 5 years ago so they'd be ready to take over, but haven't been able to. When I look at the Bombers, their biggest problem is recruiting new talent to the team. They haven't done that and their old stars that they keep bringing back are no longer stars. In free agency, they sign more old vets like 33 year old Broxton, 31 year old Moxey, 32 year old Ceresna, 32 year old Santos Knox. They need to find young up and coming players or their descent will continue.
