Westerman Fined by CFL for 4th Time This Season

Saw the release of his most recent fine today, and just quickly looked back, and saw that he's been up there a lot in the second half of the season.  Love the guys intensity and he's an all-star, but that's still a hit to the pocketbook.

Thursday, October 29, 2015 — TORONTO -- The Canadian Football League announced that it has imposed its maximum fine on Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end Jamaal Westerman following a low hit to the knees of Ottawa REDBLACKS quarterback Henry Burris while he was in the act of passing. Westerman was penalized on the play.

“Health and safety is of paramount consideration when it comes to the players in our league and we need to ensure we take the necessary steps to protect them,” said Jeffrey L. Orridge, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League.

A hearing took place earlier this week that included Westerman, representation from the Canadian Football League Players Association (CFLPA), and representation from the CFL, including Commissioner Orridge.

Following the hearing and after reviewing the play on video from every available angle, the Commissioner has decided to impose the highest fine allowed under the CFL’s collective bargaining agreement with the CFLPA.

The CFL also announced today the following player discipline from Week 18 games:

Toronto Argonaut James Yurichuk was fined for unnecessary roughness in Friday’s game versus the Montreal Alouettes.

As per league policy, the amount of the player fines was not disclosed.

It has to be frustrating for Westerman, being expected to provide 90% of the pass rush all by himself, so if he's cranky, it would be understandable.

17to85 was just saying to me in FB chat, never mind the fine, they should be guaranteeing him MODP for doing everything he can to get rid of Burris...

Crappy cheap shot and it wasn't even the first time he did it in the game let alone the season. I hate that kind of crap no matter who does it. No surprise that he's a little lighter in the wallet. If there were any teeth in the CFL he'd get at least a 1 game suspension. Too bad too. I like everything else about Westerman.

I think that if J. Westerman really wanted to hurt H Burris, we'd be seeing a release from Ottawa saying that HB was on the 6 game IR.

JW's punishment is just fine by me.

What's the most obnoxious thing I can change TBurgess' post to.

Hank sure played it up, really hate that crocodile smile

I dont think I recall a time a player was booed so much upon getting up from "taking a knee"

Did they mention how he was held on the play forcing him to lunge at the qb?

Did they mention how he was held on the play forcing him to lunge at the qb?

Did they mention the direct hit to the head on Nicholls?  Did they mention the late tackle after our player went out of bounds?  I don't normally ***** about the refs but I really noticed some obvious missed calls last game.  And what was worse was that the refs were looking directly at the infraction and didn't call a penalty.

Oh well...

It affected Burris the second half as he cooled off passing.

Ha, that there is Suitor-talk, an obvious attempt not to credit the Bomber defence, so...it must be because he was bothered by that injury/non-injury.

He did throw mostly underneath in the second half - looked like Richie Hall changed up the coverage

Burris always plays worse after you hit him, look it up, he's just that kind of a player.

Same with Glenn. That's how you take em out of it. Get a couple good licks in and they go away real quick.

Same with Glenn. The key is to hit Glenn early & often & he wilts.

So, how much were the refs fined for their putrid performance?

Westerman has been good. He is trending in the direction of being dirty. I like players that play on the edge and even over it from time to time. He is walking a fine line IMHO right now

Westerman plays through to the whistle with motivation, hard to stop a guy that never gives up on a play.

Sorry guys, gotta agree with Burgess, was a play with intention to injure. Has no place in this game. Should have gotten at least a 1 game suspension. Doesn't really matter what other transgressions happened to Bomber personal previously.

That was a dirty play. Sticking up for it is akin to a Rider fans green colored glasses.

Looks like we posted about Glenn within a minute of each other, Noeller & were thinking the same thing. LOL!

I don't know about that. I saw the replay on that play once & from what I saw I Westerman went after Hank's ankle.

That was pure soccer theatrics at its finest. Couldnt believe he cried on the field then jumped up and practically jogged to the sidelines whilst signalling that was 3 times.. Soooo the other two were just as (not) bad then or..?

And maas throwing his temper tantrum was awesome.. His players shoulda let him go to discuss this issue with westerman and anderson lol.
