Bombers negotiate Transit game day discount

Welllll not really. It doesn't matter if there was twenty points of entry. There is only so much available parking on campus. I found things to be very easy after the first couple of games.

There was still delays leaving but that's to be expected with that many people. If I parked close to the old stadium I expected to sit in traffic on the way out. And I ways sat in traffic on my way there

It matters because when you put a congregating place at a natural bottleneck, you get a, well, bottleneck.  More parking on campus wouldn't make any sense, because you can't get people in and out in a timely fashion, building a barrier to casual fans.  They need to make attending games enjoyable to sell tickets, not aggravating.

The old stadium was easy.  I never approached it from the west, and Route 90 is a disaster at rush hours regardless.  From the northeast and southeast it took 30 minutes to be parked or home each way.  Never parked in the stadium lot though.

I agree. I just mean that there is only a finite number of vehicles that need to access the campus anyway.

Part of the issues in the first couple of games was the sheet stupidity of people combined with the lack of plan by the bombers. With no cops to over rule the lights at intersections you bad light cycles that just weren't meant to handle that sort of load coming from multiple directions.

You had people trying to best lights and getting stuck in the intersection so no one moved for several cycles. It was really a mad house.

But it was vastly improved as the season progressed. I'm more intrigued to see what happens for grey cup and the NHL since you won't have thousands of people walking and cycling.

Thy really need to get that brt Access done ASAP

I know this was meant as a joke, but surely you know that the issue isn't the "free" part. First, the service provided was essentially a shuttle service (Park and Ride), with direct routes to the stadium that aren't provided by the city's regular bus routes. Eliminating this service means people have to take a regular city bus, which from some locations is damn near impossible, and from others is extremely impractical. A system where the fans are asked to pony up the difference between what the Bombers are willing to pay and what the city is asking would be great, if it weren't for the fact that the city said a "pay" shuttle is not possible (for reasons that escape me now).

It was meant as a joke...  It's sorta 'funny' cuz it's true  Everyone agrees that a bus service of some sort is needed.  The Bombers don't want to pay for it.  The city doesn't want to pay for it.  The fans don't want to pay for it.  Everyone seems to think it's someone else's responsibility.

Bus service in the cities I've lived in (Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Merida) are similar.  Good on some routes, bad on others, and damn near impossible on the rest.  Sure, you can take the train in Calgary and Vancouver, but most people have to get to it first, which makes it the same as taking a bus to a second bus to get to the stadium.  Some bars in the Canadian cities offer shuttle services to the stadium for a fee.

I shake my head and sometimes do a face palm when I see how entitled folks in Winnipeg think they are.

you cant honestly believe your bs of winnipegers entitlement, we want decent and more organized transit, thats not entitlement thats a tax payers right, about time our "elected officials" start serving the public instead of there own get re-elected bs. The bombers and the city had a deal and the city completely blind sided the bombers. I think miller wouldnt back down and im glad he wouldnt. Were not entitled were pissed off

Talking about BS!  You're 'entitled' to free rides to and from sporting events because you pay taxes.  Give your head a shake.  You don't really believe that do you?  You're pissed off because you might have to pay to get to and from games like almost every other CFL fan does (I understand that Edmonton and Ottawa have free rides).

The Bombers asked the city to pick up the tab and the transit folks agreed.  The City council, who had to actually come up with the money to pay for it, didn't agree.  Millar knew all along that it might be voted down and he said so a month or two ago.  Now it's time for plan B, which will be announced on Monday.

Did council block this? I thought it never went to a

Vote. Didn't Sam nix it?

The bus use isn't free either. The issue is not free rides. It's that the bombers want to pay regular transit rates rather than the charter rates. The bombers still pay. And one can make the connection that fans pay through their ticket purchase.

It didn't go to a council vote. There really hasn't been an answer given for why it didn't or why the City pulled their proposal other than the BS thing about the Bombers making a profit last year.

UP, better be careful. Some of the things you're saying about Katz may be considered libelous. Just because you post under a pseudonym doesn't mean you can't be identified. It's your choice to say what you want but man, I'd be very cautious. Your choice.

What?  I just mean hes a known liar.  He publicly flip flopped on putting the Goldeyes into a blind trust.  Thus he lied.  Thats all i meant.  Right? ;-)

Just sayin', man. 17to85 feels anyone  on the internet can say what they want about anyone with impunity. I happen to think there's a line & if it's crossed could be trouble. Not saying you did cross the line but why take the risk? Maybe because I was threatened once with a lawsuit about 10 years ago. Not worth the worry or hassle.

A very good point.  A few months ago Brian Burke was taking a  couple of posters on some Maple Leafs site to court for libel when they claimed he had an affair with a well-known media personality in Toronto.

Like I said before, I was threatened with a lawsuit once about a decade ago for something I allegedly said (that I didn't) & even though the so called injured party threatened me & I received a very intimidating letter from his lawyer, nothing ever came of it. But I had to seek legal advice & it wasn't very pleasant.

I was *this close* to suing Sammy and his Goldeyes over a dispute involving rental of the ball park.  Had some fun email exchanges with his right hand jerkwad Wayne.  My buddy at the Sun was amused when we started CC'ing the paper in an ever-expanding effort to subtly threaten the other side with media coverage of our spat.  Best feeling in the world was telling Sammy "we'll leave it" when he made us a "take it or leave it" offer.  Beautiful facility though.

How could anyone vote for the socialist Judy W after what we have gone through in our province.

Possibly the worst premier Manitoba has ever had.

Sellinger is indeed the worst piece of human vermin ever to grace the premier's office in Manitoba. Followed closely by Garry Filmon, Sir Rodmund Roblin & Howard Pawley. He's currently piecing together his exit plan and will not run in the next election. That big huge stork lady Teresa Oswald will be confronting Andrew Swan and Hunchback Howard for the NDP leadership fairly soon.

Roblin brought us Duff's Ditch & Winnipeggers should be thanking him every spring. I think he was a very good Premier. Now, Walter Weir, the ex Highways Minister who replaced him& called a snap election in 69 because the NDP had just elected Ed Schreyer as leader & he thought was going to catch them flat footed. Weir was a hapless moron.

Nate is talking about Duff's grandfather though.  He was premier from 1900 - 1915.

Holy crap, that was over a century ago. Who cares?? Let's just say the good Roblin cancelled out the bad Roblin & we broke even. Okay, we can go home now.

Actually most historians would put Rodmon Roblin in the good category.

Two politicians my father truly liked & admired. Duff Roblin & John Diefenbaker. Even though he was a staunch conservative & believe me he was, he didn't like Robert Stanfield as he thought he was wishy washy & he hated Dalton Camp. He despised Camp for putting the knives in Dief's back & making sure Roblin lost to Stanfield in the PC leadership election in 1967. Backroom party politics & betrayal he used to say. I heard about Camp all the time growing up. Everytime the CBC interviewed the guy or had him on television as a political expert he'd start muttering. But man, he sure loved Duff Roblin.

im not sure how much some of those used buses cost but what the bombers should look at, is getting a few of them (if costs arent ridiculous, i hear those electric buses are ultra cheap and great to ride) (or even the accordian style bus) and just buy a few of them, again if costs aren't too ridiculous.

Make it into a blue n gold type bus specifically used for the park and rides.

If you have to charge people a buck or 2 to use it, so be it. what's an extra buck or 2 really in the big picture.

All that is is intimidation. Unless you're someone important posting crap on the internet is no different than standing on the street corner saying anything which is quite allowed. Just there's a lot of people willing to go through the process of trying to scare people with lawyers even though there's nothing they can really do.

Exactly.  I've had some really nasty things said about me online but there's not a lot you can do.  Sammy is suing a student newspaper so he's pretty determined to go after people that slander him.  But it's hard to prove and usually not worth it.

I had a guy steal a logo off my website once.  He changed the colour but it was otherwise exactly the same.  I told him it was funny but knock it off.  He replied "talk to my lawyer" and gave me his lawyers name.  So I called his lawyer who had no idea what I was talking about.  30 minutes later, the logo was removed and Im pretty sure he got a bill for his lawyer's services.  It works both ways...lol

But remember, the defense to slander is the truth.

This topic was never really about football, it was about the park and ride/ transit deal the city pulled. I don't see the problem, if you don't like it,  don't have to read it or comment right?

Sure it has degenerated lol into a bit of hodge podge of everything, from the actual topic to the politics stuff to ripping on sam katz but... the topic itself, never really was about football.. was about politicians really so obviously, gonna get some talk about politics in a thread where politics is the main reason the thread exists really.

All I would ask is that people try to keep the discussion somewhat on point.  I realize this thread discusses the politics and players involved in negotiating the transit situation with IGF .. but if people want to discuss issues / policy / politics beyond the scope of that framework .. perhaps it should go into General discussion .. I'd rather not have to start pruning posts.

Thanks all.

Sammy stopped playing the U of W newspaper a couple months back. He played the classic L. Ron Hubbard game of "Lurch & WIthdraw" aka "Reach & WIthdraw". He got some free media time, he issued legal threats, he attempted to scare the managers at the U of W. But he had no intention of retaining a lawyer, costing himself coin and then having to go to court and spend more non-productive time in front of a judge plus spectators.

I recall Miller stating that he wanted something where the City takes care of the city buses going to games, something that was done for Canad Inns and currently with the Jets and Goldeyes. Then the bombers would negotiate their own deal with the shuttle services.

Would be great if the Bombers should bought their own buses and painted them blue and gold with the logo everywhere, but I'm sure that would cost some pretty pennies.

I guarantee the Bombers won't be buying any buses.
