Veteran quarterback Zach Collaros has agreed to a restructured contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, which saves the team $50,000 in salary cap space for the 2026 season, per sources.

Collaros received two separate $100,000 offseason bonuses as scheduled on January 1 and January 15. Under his old deal, he would have earned an additional $400,000 in base salary, bringing his total earnings to an even $600,000.

However, Collaros’ new contract will now pay him $300,000 in base salary. That came with a $50,000 signing bonus, maxing out at $550,000 in hard money. The 13-year veteran remains the CFL’s third-highest-paid QB behind Nathan Rourke at $684,000 and Chad Kelly at $625,000 for the upcoming campaign.

Honestly. It’s probably where he should be. QBs get paid and his resume is solid. 3rd highest after 5 straight cup appearances and 1 early playoff exit makes sense to me.

Thats where he should top out with incentives. After the last 2 plus years, and nearly every single play off game here, his floor should be 350-400k. But it is what it is, free cap money for us.

Fifty thousand ain't much if they want to sign amy more free agents. Where would the Bombers spend this windfall? On signing another player or for injuries come the season? I guess every bit helps.

This definitely feels true. I still believe that Collaros is capable of great things, BUT...based on recent seasons..... This feels like too high.

Part of the problem is there's such a dearth of QBs in the league so anyone with any ability can pretty much ask whatever they want.

and hes already cashed another 200k of his salary. So if he spent the whole season on the IR, we would only recoup 300k.

Counterpoint, the SMS has gone up 750k since 2024 so Collaros' share is noticeablely smaller. (10.9% vs 8.8%).

You seen quarters??.....nickels and dimes used to be big if you had a couple of them...Bills were rare and if you seen a $2 bill with a buck in your wallet you were rich........When you see some of these contracts signed by certain athletes, I have to shake my head and wonder where it's all going to end,,,,......Times certainly have changed
