  • I liked the part where @SpeedFlex27 quoted himself so he could regale us with his illustrious curling memoir.

  • Whether he comes back to Winnipeg or not, Strev will be a Bombers legend for life, after that playoff run (and all he did within it) and the post championship celebration... Afaic, he is a Bomber for

I remember I was 18 sitting in one of my two season ticket seats that were on the 55 yard line in Section V at Winnipeg Stadium. We were in the middle of an 8 game losing streak in 1973. There was this BC Lions fan who was enjoying the Bombers getting beat up on the field as we plummetted to last place in the West that season after Earl Lunsford tore apart our first place team from 1972 much like Kyle Walters did this past off season. The guy was loving the fact that Stan Brown took over from a departed Mack Herron. Brown was no Mack Herron, that's for sure averaging a bit over 4 yards a carry. He kept yelling out, "Where's "Smack Heroin??" all game long. Finally, by the beginning of the 4th quarter I couldn't take it any longer & told that hosebag to shut his effing mouth. I was ready for him to jump at me wanting to fight. He never did. He sat down & never said another word. I wanted him to come at me but he didn't. POS Lions fan.

That name calling definitely crossed the line. Good that you put him in his place.

An old article a couple of years before his death (Hopefully, there's no paywall.) A really sad story and a waste of a great talent.

I had forgotten about Brown so I checked out his stats with the Bombers. It looks like he played 10 games in '73 and while not Herron-like was a solid player.

One of the few times in my life, I was actually looking for a fight. I was enraged he could come into our House & yell **** about our team & no one told him to shove it. I was young at the time & full of piss & vinegar. I remember Brown was average at best. Lasted a bit over half a season with the Bombers. Lunsford gutted that great '72 team. He's the one who should have been fired.

Yeah. We ain’t seeing him here anytime soon if ever.

he isn’t sticking long term, he’s already done more than any cis qb in 40 years. he was a front runner to be cut before the pre season.

i firmly believe this is the best case scenario for him and us. a year on an nfl pr would be phenomenal for him to catch up to the higher level of competition.

his chances of sticking with another wave of rookies who also have great arm talent and drastically more polish will likely spell his demise down south.

Dude is 10 of 14 for 140 ish and 3 scores in pre season. The other QB got 6 minutes. Elgersma is making the game day roster.

Anyone hear about Wilson? Did he make any noise against the Giants?

Yeah...but look at Strevs stats too...Rourke had more polish and pre season success too..means diddly in NFL politics meat grinder

Also...non drafted...Canadian...cis school...he has the triple death card ...he may languish around a PR or 2 if he so chooses...but the nfl meat grinder will spit him out if not thos yr...next

If he wants to actually play...make real nice money and be a big fish in a small pond he knows where to go

Take it for what it is but I hear he likely gonna be cut...and prob no PR spot offered....doubt immediately any other team grabs him for PR...if at all

Hopefully he has the sense to say i tried...time to go back on a new deal in 120-130k range to finish out the yr prorated and then look for a 2..3 yr deal next yr if he tears it up again

dude is playing other 6th stringers, and we’ve seen better pre season mvps get cut at qb.

elgersma isn’t in the running for ar, he’s in a battle for the pr spot. He was a flyer and tc arm.

Willis is their previous 3rd round pick, who they’ve been grooming. hes a good mobile back up and at 26 is already good enough to be a career ar qb in the nfl for as long as he wants.

Their other back up, clifford is a more recent 5th round pick of the pack. hes got rookie strev levels of athleticism, but with 4 years of starting in the big 10 where he won 32 of 46 games, started and won the rose bowl, threw for over 10k 86/31 adding over 1k rushing and 15 more tds.

I don't think they would have signed Elgersma if they weren't willing to keep him on PR for a couple years if he showed any flash.

CFL really ****** themselves with the rookie contract because there's zero chance a guy like Elgersma would come up until his NFL shot is totally done.

And at this point there's probably 10-12 teams that would PR him if Green Bay doesn't.  Maybe he'd come up to actually play if he could make $350,000 or $400,000 CAD.

When are people going to learn preseason statistics don’t mean anything?

The stats don't mean much but what he's showing does.

He's a guy they automatically view as incredibly raw but toolsy.  But he's producing easily against the guys in his bracket.  So he's earned a shot somewhere to keep developing in the NFL.

And there's no chance he'd even consider the CFL as long as he has that because he'll make as much as the Bombers can sign him for in 3 weeks on the NFL PR.

@JuranBoldenRules didn't the CFL change the rule regarding Canadian draft picks that get signed in the NFL?

Is there is still a restriction on how much they can sign for with the CFL team that drafted them?

Max for first two seasons is $85,000 including bonuses for 1st-4th round CFL Draft Picks.

NFL experience now counts against their CFL rookie deal so if they spend enough time down there, they don't need to sign a rookie contract.

"Among the miscellaneous items of interest to fans, Canadian players returning from the NFL with more than three years of experience will no longer be required to sign slotted rookie contracts. Each year of NFL service will count towards one season of their CFL rookie deal."

That's for guys who already signed here and went down in the middle of their rookie deal.

Like when Ford was gone he ran down a year.

Otherwise for guys who have never been in the CFL they would need to be on NFL 53 man or IR for 3 games in a season for it to count.  PR doesn't.

I can't imagine he doesn't try kicking around down there all year... But man, if we could ever get him back for a playoff push...

Like I said..I heard first round of cuts...no pr offer...

He gone all yr with no pay...u don't get but a per diem in camp...no signing bonus

His smart move is to hustle up...get a prorated deal or get a 3 yr deal with some nice coin and play er out...rips it up could maaybeee get another shot but I think this was his shot

Ontaria Wilson released.

Too bad so sad for him. OK, on with getting him back here in uniform for the Banjo Bowl 😁

Is Wilson a guy who is going to get looks from other teams?

Who knows...there will be like 700 inactive guys on NFL rosters between injury lists and PR.  If he sticks on a PR down there for 2 weeks he'd make more than he would here for the rest of the season.  Even if he gets here for the Banjo Bowl he's got 7 game cheques in the CFL and signing here he's taken himself completely away from the possibility of getting with a NFL team in the 2025 season.
