Alliance of American Football

5:30PT San Diego Fleet at San Antonio Commanders

CBS

Restrictions on defensive formations:

(1) no more than five players may rush on passing plays;

(2) any player who aligns on the line of scrimmage either prior to or at the snap is designated as one of the five players regardless of whether he rushes;

(3) no defensive player may rush from a position more than two yards outside the widest offensive lineman and more than five yards from the line of scrimmage (they’ll call it the “defensive pressure box”);

(4) a player is deemed eligible to rush if he has both feet inside the box at the snap; (5) no more than four players may rush from the same side of the ball;

(6) adjacent linebackers may not rush from the same side of the ball; and

(7) two or more linebackers aligned between the offensive guards may not rush.

So, basically, up to five players can rush the passer and each of those five players must be aligned within two yards of the widest offensive lineman and five yards of the line of scrimmage. This means that there will be no corner blitzes. There will be no delayed blitzes from linebackers and safeties. There will be no double-A gap blitzes.

👁‍🗨 These restrictions are supposed to save QBs..the lifeline of any team, but holy geez, talk about borderline confusion for the refs.

    Missed week 1 payroll...that’s all-time bad.  Didn’t even start the season with operating capital for one week.

    It's really saying something when Arizona Coyotes fans are saying "Can you believe what they are doing to give away these tickets?"

The quarterbacking in this league is just brutal.  If they are going to skew the rules one way they need to skew them to offense.

If I'm a receiver I'm signing with the CFL over this crap.  CFL sends a lot of receivers to the NFL, this league the QB's are so brutal you aren't getting a chance to make plays.

Watching the Jets game.

We feel your pain.

The poor quality of play in vast empty stadiums. I can't see a lot of fans looking forward to watching. Be interesting to know the ratings after week 2.

Maybe Winnipeg can find the receiver they need in the aaf dispersal draft. ;)

It's unfortunately that most of what I've heard about increases coming to our CBA will be basically given to the top players. I'd rather bump up the minimum salary a bit. I wonder how often we convince a star player not to try the NFL with a big contract compared to how many players we could attract to the league with a higher minimum contract.

The CFLPA are run by Canadian offensive linemen who as a group are higher paid than most other positions as rookies. Only the lower draft picks play for minimum. They could care less about the entry level as most Canadian OL will be paid above that. They have basically taken over running the Association. That is why the money goes to the vets & not the rooks. And it's hurting the CFL.

It is just brutal football. The level of compete isn't where it should be at the qb position. Watching Christian Hackenburg crapping the bed for Memphis sure was fun.  He's the AAF's star qb as well.

I wonder how Drew Willy would do in this league?

Better than he did in the CFL, but that's a low bar.

The cracks in this league from inadequate talent are starting to show like a late night infomercial for a totally useless product that's been on the air for just a liiiiitle too long...

Two cities had games with close to or above 30,000.  San Diego  & San Antonio.

Yeah..but is that sustainable..and what if other cities are pulling in low teens..or worse

And now they missed payroll after the second week, and had to have an NHL owner fork over a whack of cash to keep them afloat..I give that league maybe till end of first season

👁‍🗨 From that article..

The AAF has only played two weeks, and before Dundon's investment, Week 3 was in jeopardy,” according to The Athletic's report.

👁‍🗨 Here’s a line for you:

"This was a terrific opportunity for Tom to expand his investment in the sports world," Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said. "The AAF is off to an exciting start as a league and was founded on some truly unique and groundbreaking concepts.

3 weeks...really?

Week 3 and they were already in jeopardy... yikes

JOKE....the league that is...probably why too the CFL lost basically nobody to that league other than players who really couldn't cut it here

Stupid investment is right

and yet..

Former #CFL receiver Terrell Sinkfield signs with #AAF team 3downnation.com/2019/02/19/for…

Probably all sort of tax implications to invest that money.  They must have a lousy TV deal if they were on the verge of collapse after Week 3.

I hope Vince is watching...

250M is insane, I imagine it’ll keep the league afloat for a year or two but they’ll still be toast afterwards.

From what I've been reading, they bought time on CBS to air the games.

No cash flow.

If they bought time, they are morons.  The whole point of doing this is to take advantage of networks and streaming services handing out money for content.

I bet XFL announces a solid TV deal.
