Looking Ahead: Toronto Vs Winnipeg

Ok the loss to Calgary at home sucked, but shouldn't be all that shocking. The way we played however was but games done, were still 1-1 and now we face the Argos, who I picked to be #1 in the east in the prognostication thread(s) in the offseason.

So what's it going to take to beat them?

We are going to need to shut down SJ Green first and foremost. I thought the last few games we've done a reasonably well job shutting down the opposing team's top threats;

example: Marquay McDaniel: 46 yards 0 TDs,  DaVaris Daniels: 39 yards 0 TDs

Duron Carter: 69 yard 0 TD, Naaman Roosevelt:  59 yards 1 TD

The problem we've been seeing is opposing teams 3rd or 4th options lighting us up like Nic Demski, Caleb Holley, Kamar Jorden. that needs to stop.

If we were to move Roc Carmichael to LB in the wake of potentially losing Wild for any amount of significant time,  who would fill that role at HB? I'm not totally opposed to the thought of bringing back Frederick at this point, it can't get any worse then playing roc back there,  can it?

I think for morale reasons the bombers need a bounce back game here.  Even if we lose it's not the end of the world. Our season last year was looking like sweet ass until about week 6 when we destroyed the ticats, so plenty of time. But we need to show last game was just a bad outing for the team, and not the norm.

  • CFL GAME NOTES ….The 2017 season has been remarkable in that each team has started their #1 QB in EVERY game. -To date only John White (EDM: 104 yards on June 24th) has a 100-yard game.

  • It roughly translates to 'I can't believe we haven't won a grey cup since 1990.'

  • He needs at least 15 to 20 touches per game! Let's get it going.

I think our poor tackling last game pissed me off more then anything

"OMG he lined up offside!" kind of excitement.

i nearly puked when I heard that call.. that would have been one of the most epic goal line stances.. ever.  as it was its pretty amazing how well they held the fort until that end around.

I cringe when players get beat on passing plays, whether through assignment or poor tackling, but I absolutely abhor simple plays like lining up offside in obvious situations. This is just beyond ignorant, and it really cost us. It is the simplest thing to set 1 yard off the line and check others who are in the same situation.

KEEP YOURSELF AND OTHERS IN CHECK!   It's not that hard. This should have been drilled in to every player's heads early and often all TC and preseason.

I do not want to see another D-Line offside again this year or else, I'll really be mad ? Really, I will..

Get ready to be mad then, because the refs absolutely LOVE to make that call.

it really only got bad in the second half after the defense had been on the field the entire time.. first half we were tackling well, wrapping up and limiting gains (minus a few overshoots if memory serves)

Interesting. The bookies all seem to have it as -3 Winnipeg.

Making the home team a favourite by a field goal at home is sorta the same as saying it's a dead heat to them.

I'm taking the points!

Pass defence, like last season, appears to still be a problem for the Bombers so I suspect Ray and company will be licking their chops at that prospect.

Knox or whoever replaces Wilde is going to be picked on .... hope Leggett and Carmichael swap spots

How does putting a rookie at sam and playing Leggett out of position make us better?

I'm thinking the offense is going to have to come to play because I'm not loving our defense this week, especially against Ricky Ray.

I am not certain we have the horses to get into a footrace with the Argos. We had better hope that Ray doesn't find his rhythm or our defence finds another gear.

Because Roc has shown well at SAM and Leggett is a fine pass defender

He showed well in practice, not in the games.

I'm not concerned about Ray at all to be honest. His weakness this season is...zone. That's it. Play zone and double up SJ. Their Defence is way more of a concern to me, butler has 7 damn sacks already. And they have some decent ball hawks behind him. Will be a real test for our Oline and Nichols.

I don't know why so many people think playing Leggett at HB is the answer to all our defensive problems... he has ONLY played safety and SAM in his time here and has excelled at both spots... would he be a good HB? maybe... but we have absolutely no evidence of that...

Interesting (kind of) stat; of the seven sacks we've given up, only one has been by a de.

Be that as it may, he has never played HB. And Carmichael hasn't seen live action at SAM. Two needless gambles.

Start Carmichael albeit a short lease. Sit him in favor of Walker the moment he gave up a big play.

Didn't Carmichael play SAM during pre-season? I know it's not regular season, but it's still "live action"...

that's all he played in pre-season so slotting in there would not be as foreign as him dropped in the HB spot.

That being said you don't move anyone else anywhere and disrupt several areas of a defense. Start him there if you have to, but first sign of same ol same ol he gets pulled for whomever the extra DB is on game day roster, or I would flip Randle in there and and allow Jones to play boundary corner...that would give us the best in game backfield tweek

I hate Lankford so much.

At the game last Friday, every time he touched the ball, I would say, "prove me wrong, Lankford. Prove me wrong."

I just don't get it. I'm sure there are better options.

Looked like he hurt his shoulder during the last game. I was hoping it was nothing.

O'Shea said just yesterday that he was a maybe for this game.....weird.  Looks like Foketi and Flanders are the 2 man reserve once again, very consistent roster so far.
