Wasn't his nickname "Big Tuna" when he played or am I mistaken?

I think Barriere has great upside, just not sure I would be comfortable with a raw rookie at number 2. However, if he wins the job he wins the job.

Barriere looks to be the spittin' image of V.A., pocket passer with good mobility and a good arm, not much for rolling out or throwing on the run though, he likes to be planted.  He has the talent but whether he can learn to adjust his game or read the field at all remains to be seen, it only took V.A. 6 years to establish himself as a starter.

I missed that. Oh well, there's Milanovich-Litre or Thomas Erlington or even an American back if BO prices himself off our roster. If it comes to a choice between keeping one of either a $200k Oliveira or a higher priced receiver such as Schoen - I'd keep Schoen. Also, I'd like to see two QBs in the backfield - Collaros and Streveler. One thing seems pretty clear, Bombers don't have $$ for Oliveira, Schoen and Streveler.

Milanovich-Litre could definitely be used in place of Jackson and would be a handy offensive tool, but not as a replacement for Brady.  I like Argo Daniel Adeboboye but it appears he's under contract for at least another year.

We seem to have a converted qb in camp every year. I think they love the flexibility but we haven’t of yet actually kept one.
Currently we have 4 QBs on the roster not including burmeister. If we don’t sign strevy or another qb, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take reps at both qb and we in rookie camp and go from there. If we sign another guy I don’t think he will.

Not sure but I believe he could either come back and play out his sophomore year or sign a new deal

Ford was a second round pick in 2022.

Here's a bunch of gobbledygook that explains the limitations of his contract.

The 2019 CBA introduces a rookie salary structure for Nationals first contract consisting of 2 years plus a team option. A Max. Min salary is defined as $65,000 for the first two years of the contract, with a maximum housing allowance or signing/roster bonus of $7,500 per season and maximum 50% + 1 bonus based on snaps of $7,500 per season for a maximum earnings of $80,000 for first and second round picks in their first two seasons, with the third season base salary not exceeding the second year base salary by more that 10%.

You asked about reps, not years of experience, so that's what I showed you - a direct comparison of how many snaps they took.  Besides, all of that "experience" isn't quite what you make it out to be when you look at what he did and how long he was with those teams.  For example, how much experience did he gain in the 36 hours that he was signed to the Bills? The only team he actually got any game experience with was the Arizona Rattlers.  I wouldn't say he got years of experience kicking around like that any more than I would say Tyrell Ford got a year of NFL experience last year.

As far as his time as a starter goes, it started prior to Ottawa.  Harris started 16 games with Toronto in 2015, when Ray was hurt so teams got a good look at him that year.  He signed with Ottawa in 2016, and Burris had re-structed his deal so neither guy was making big money (for a starting QB) that season - they were both going to make around $250k + play time bonuses.  Ottawa had structured both QB contracts in a way that it was clear Harris was the starter in 2017.  Burris was going to make 200k in 2017 while Harris made 400k.  Burris retired before the season so it didn't really matter in the end. https://3downnation.com/2016/11/24/henry-burris-trevor-harris/

Harris had led the league in passing TD's in 2015 with Toronto (was 3rd in passing yards too) so I guess that was enough for Ottawa to feel justified in the payout.

Additionally Harris signed a low value contract with the Als in 2022 and promptly took the starting job away from Vernon Adams after Khari was fired.  He led them to a second place finish and an Eastern Final appearance in which he completed 25 passes out of 30 attempts for 362 yards and one touchdown in the 34–27 loss to the Argos.

He's not a scrub and can make things happen when set up in a good offence with decent protection.

Prukop is a 3rd stringer and I don't believe for 5 seconds that we have any illusions of him being more than that. I can think of 5-6 QBs that will be available as a backup that are FAR better than FIne, and that's just off the top of my head. It's not Rider hate it's just fact. I would take Dolegala long before I would ever take Fine. The guy can't make every throw.

They are NOT going with the same 3 QBs. Doesn't sound like Dolegala will be back. Baffling, as he was much better than Fine imo.

They'd be smart to pursue Shiltz but don't know if they could afford him.

Get ready for a knee slapper. Over on RF their chief spin doctor and shameless O'Day apologist Rider Stronson is suggesting he has inside information that if the Riders had not expedited the signing of Mason FIne that the Bombers were going to attempt to sign him as our back up. LMAO.  He's not even good enough fill the water bottles for our QBs.

Except for the Ottawa being in the Grey Cup part I have maintained that this may exactly be our path for the past couple months. Let Brown develop and take his lumps as a young starter in Ottawa, then we swoop in.

The Riders can't be dumb enough to roll with the same 3 QB lineup that failed them badly last season, by hoping for a better result this season.  If Harris goes down again early, they are hooped.

Agree, I think his health must have limited his ask, he's only played 18 games once in his career.  He plays very similar to Demski and their salaries are almost identical.

It’s all speculation based on talks of wanting to reset the market.

Imo, 300k is the absolute max for a wr. And I don’t think we can succeed with 2 WRs at 300k. 200-250max hard money imo is the range. Any thing in that range I keep schoen. If he wants 250-300 I take a long hard look at him vs lawler. Perhaps sign schoen and trade lawler if the market exists for him.

going double rookie rb could have a cap hit in the 160k ish range, vs likely 300-350k for Brady and Augustine. That money could buy us an elite dl in free agency.

$300k is beyond the max., the contracts of Lewis and Lawler are outliers that skewed the model and fall beyond the bounds of common sense, except in the case of Jones.  Every other elite receiver topped out at or below $200k last season, accepting $50-$100k less than Lawler and Lewis.  Hatcher, Hollins and Cottoy already re-signed with BC this season at or below $225k, Rhymes signed with the RB's for around $220k, the Elks cut Dunbar at $200k.  Hopefully Schoen falls into the norm and doesn't add to the anomaly.

It isn’t apples to apples and i would have bet the a million dollars that you were going to bring up Schoen.

It is a passing league - he isn’t  as easily replaced.  That’s  the difference.

Something in the mid to high 2s for sure.

Looks like his NFL opportunities have dried up, tie him up with a 3 year contract starting at $225k and topping out at $250k in the 3rd year, can throw in a few bonuses for leading the league in receiving and hitting other milestones.  If he's offered anywhere close to $300k in FA, I'd guess he won't be wearing blue next season.

Two off seasons & we never even attempted to bring in someone to upgrade the DT & nose positions. We could have allocated the money necessary to sign a key FA in those 2 off seasons but never did. It was a coaching & mgmt decision not to.

I think the Collaros and Lawler contracts pushed Walters to the limits, he no longer has discretionary spending to bring in valued FA's from other teams, considering the other relatively high priced positional players he already employs, Jefferson, Jeffcoat, Bryant, Bighill, Hardrick...  Before making Collaros the highest paid QB in the CFL, Walters routinely used the previous seasons savings to retain many more players than he's been able to lately.  Jefferson and Neufeld may be the only two paid with last year's money.

We can only hope that a change of DC's will result in a change of philosophy. I mean, if Hall kept telling Osh we need a NT after 2 years you'd think that he would have asked Walters to get it done. So, Hall might've said that we didn't need one. It has been frustrating watching our defense losing it's toughness. Especially when other teams could fill that position but we never did.

It's mostly the ratio keeping Fox off the field, if they had the ability to play 2 import DT's instead of 2 Natl. DT's, he'd see  a lot more reps.  They need to find that Natl. DE that can make an impact this year to open up more flexibility on the D-line.

A lot on here were, as far back as pre training camp last year, were aware of the fact that we needed a true nose tackle...It was mentioned on this site ad nauseam...The average fan could see it, yet we brought in very little talent to compete for the job....Adequate is not acceptable when your goal is a Cup win....We have to unearth another 'Stove', who can plug up the middle and put mega pressure on the qb.....Glaring weakness last year and we paid for it...I hope management has awakened to the problem and brings in some serious competition and quit farting around

In reality we have little idea of what Fox can contribute as he was given so few opportunities to perform last season.  If they decide to roll with Walker and Fox this season, I'm not going lose sleep worrying the coaching staff doesn't have a clue what they're doing.

I’m honestly getting tired of seeing Stove’s name over and over. He’s done nothing but be injured since he’s left while we’ve been the top rated defence every year.

we’ve done nothing. Jesus. How can you even make that claim?

Need to change his nick-name to "Broken Stove"

A lot off scrambles though, right?  And teams are rolling coverage on him so there's guys nearby below and above.

Schoen's averages are higher with Lawler last season, and his games with Brown are well below his average.

I think his connection with Collaros will probably keep him here really.

I could see Bailey and BOLO following Brown.  I'm just not sure anyone will commit to Bailey being more than a 3-4 type receiver.

Ottawa already has Justin Hardy, who cracked 1,000 yds. last season and plays a gritty style similar to Bailey.

Is the Schoen to Ottawa narrative still intact with the D Rhymes signing? If they pay up to get Schoen as well probably a good receiver or two shake free from Ottawa in the process. We don't need to have Schoen in order to remain viable. I would argue that Streveler is more important because we can't risk a situation where the season is over if Zach gets hurt by going with a bargain-bin backup qb like Prukop. I would sooner have Streveler/Acklin then Prukop/Schoen.

I think Ottawa jumped at the early chance to grab Rhymes at a negotiated price so they wouldn't have to take the chance of getting outbid on Schoen, I think they're done.  Rhymes, Acklin, Behar, Shaq Evans, and Justin Hardy offers Brown decent targets.
