  1. I'd rather have Willy and the first round pick over Glenn....  it just wouldn't of made sense to give up that pick just to get him.      Long term we are better off with two guys who can hopefully play for us in the next 5 seasons.

For BC it was a no brainer...  Lulay is done and Glenn will buy them at least two more seasons.

Not saying Glenn had to play in front of Willy in order to deprive BC of his services, backup would have be fine and that would have given the Bombers a much stronger QB tandem than they have now.  Bombers had months to work a deal before the draft but were obviously not negotiating with Ottawa.

In hind sight could have offered Watson or Pencer, Renaud and any number of replaceable starting imports they planned to cut anyway.  No one can say what it would have taken to get Glenn out of Ottawa prior to the draft but the result could have been Joey Elliot taking snaps for the Lions yesterday in place of Kevin Glenn.

  2. Now I wish we had traded for Glenn... between Montreal and BC we would have been a lock for the playoffs.

This is rational strategic thinking. The Bombers would have improved their playoff chances dramatically if they would have "deprived" BC of Kevin Glenn's services.  With Glenn as their "permanent" backup BC will cruise into the playoffs even if Lulay does not contribute this year.   The Bombers will have to pray for weaker teams to fall but that at best is a long shot this year.

One thing to consider in all of this is the psychology of the decision making process and how a coach or scout's ego comes into play when choosing which players get cut. Ie. McManus supporting Brohm over Hall. If there is a competition between two players a coach is almost always going to go with "their guy" so that he is associated with the success that player achieves and is thus validated as a "wise judge of talent". For other coach's to override and choose Hall over Brohm would have reflected poorly on McManus's judgement and nobody has big enough balls to do that. Unfortunately for Max, Joe Mack's opinion was not sought.

A good example of this is Marcel Bellefeuille sticking with Aaron Kelly. Just thankful he was willing to give up on Boltus eventually.

Or..... they kept these players because they performed better.......

Wait wait wait... Hold on... They can actually DO that?! Wonders will never cease...

And ill say that while max did get into a lot of games last season and developed some experience (negative as it was..) Its not like willy and brohm are wide eyed, wet behind the ears cfl rookies..

Both Brohm and Marve are wide eyed, wet behind the ears CFL rookies.  Neither has played a down.

  5. Maybe Dell will stick around town for a bit?

As for Hall... nieswander showed more and he still doesn't have a team...

Not true.  Hall went head to head with Nieswander last year in a game and came out on top in every category.  If Max only won one game last year that was it.

  6. I'm willing to bet that a team will pick up Messam shortly for the season and he makes a positive contribution on play as he's still a very good athlete.  Don't know what kind of personality he has but two things to consider, giving him an opportunity and redemption.  Don't like the notion of evaluating a players worth solely on paper as a lot of interesting things can happen when they get their hands on the dirty old pig skin.

Denmark redeemed himself last season maybe it's Messam's turn this year.  It's always a gamble but what are the odds?

  7. Can't be too worried about the RB as it's one of the few positions that has solid talent throughout imo.  Whether it's Ford or Grigsby they're going to be more than adequate to carry the limited running attack the Bombers will present and both have breakaway potential.  Knowing that Cotton will be back in 2-3 weeks should give them supreme motivation to perform.

  8. Guys, guys, guys... in respect of Lirim, we should start learning how to write/pronounce his name, I think he will be our kicker from here on. ;)

It's not that hard really...  just remember the main letters.

    H - R - L - H     (hoof  right   left    hoof)

then just add the remaining letters.....   Haj Rul La Hu

to pronounce it.... High, Roo, La, Hoo  :D

How bout we just call him "kicker"?

  9. Marvel made beautiful spiral on the run. Our receiver dropped a lot of passes in all our qbs. Brutal. Our defence need to learn to stop the run. Vanilla is a horrible excuse. Even if u are running a simple scheme u should be able to stop the run at some point.

I counted 7 drops in that game that should have been caught, very bad.  Did not notice any throws to Woods or Tarver in game two so I guess that experiment may be over.   I'm confident the Bombers will have a dynamic passing attack this year once they get their first team receivers on the field and won't be surprised if Moore is the only new name in that group.  Both Carter and Feoli-Gudino should make decent subs for Watson when he inevitably goes down.  Is it possible for the Bombers to keep both on the roster?

  10.

Aaron Kelly gets no respect on this forum.  He catches everything that's thrown his way and I don't think any new receiver played well enough to take his job away.  They all had flashes but consistency was lacking.  Very pleased with the national prospects and the skill Carter and Feoli-Gudino showed in limited action, didn't notice Taylor Renaud as much.

    He dropped a gimme yesterday.

In fact yesterday was a typical Aaron Kelly game. One great play that sticks in the minds of fans and then everyone forgets how he was invisible the rest of the game (aside from a drop)

Sorry, I did miss that play.

  11. We won the time of possession battle (35 and change to 24 and change), we only took 3 penalties, we had nearly 300 passing yards, we won the yardage battle overall, we broke 100 yards rushing and we lost on a last second field goal.

On top of that, can someone point out a blatant mistake made by anyone who is actually going to see major playing time?

I saw big mistakes by Kemp, Howard, Barnes and Peterson.

I saw lots to be positive about and lots worth being optimistic about. I saw bad things too and there are still questions but it's comical that people are reacting as if this was 52-0 all over again.

Denmark also dropped a catchable ball in the end zone.

  13. I'm willing to give him a chance but I do wonder if Etch's defensive scheme can deal with current offensive trends in the CFL.  Argos will dink and dunk underneath effectively moving the ball down the field and Hamilton may decide to go that way now that they have Collaros.  Teams like Calgary, BC and perhaps Sask. will take what's given and should be able to run at will against his kind of defense.  Effectively pass protecting for the long ball doesn't prevent other teams from finding ways to win games.

Still bothers me that in that pre-season interview Etch thinks of himself as a misunderstood genius that's ahead of the curve.  Primary role of the defense should be  to adjust to what the offense is trying to accomplish and stop it.  The Bombers seem to have no ability to stop the run and i.m.o. Cornish would have easily ripped off a 200+ game if he was allowed to continue.
