I wasn't overly impressed with Haba, but DEs usually need a season to acclimate. Like GCn20 says, if he used his time, he could definitely be a candidate to make a 2nd year leap. He definitely has an edge over the other contenders at this point.

Haba was ok, he's quick but doesn't have the size to overpower an OT which might be a problem trying to maintain the edge when containing the QB.  He played in 8 games last season with 12 DT's and 4 sacks and missed a few games due to injury, so he has a decent base of experience to build upon.

I would imagine you are right. Tough situation for us, as we are not likely to go 3 NAT receivers and aren't looking to replace Woli or Demski. That makes any decent offer or realistic shot at starting reps pretty tough for us to compete with. Like when we lost Petermann.

Not a lot of job openings for Natl. receivers unless they accept a backup role, Nate Behar is probably ahead of BOLO on the waiting list.

Devils advocate: he’s not eligible for the NFL window the same way Holm, etc would be so the negotiation window would likely be the first you’d ever hear of any interest

I believe the NFL window for Holm and other CFL players under contract closed Feb. 3, so we can assume he'll be back for the start of TC along with Ford.  Without a contract Betts can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

Houston replacement already here in either Holm or Parker .as well as some interesting guys coming to camp

Kid from Hawaii prob get tons of reps and chance to pin down that RT position...and I can see if we re-up Gray he will be slotted there as well to compete...haven't looked at our signed guys for camp on online...know we brought Ivy back...tho don't recall what he looked like to be honest...but we carried him half the yr so musta been something we saw

I remember Ivy from the pre-seaon games, he looked both slow and clumsy, but perhaps he didn't know what he was supposed to be doing.

True. If a player is worth picking up a GM will figure it out. I think when we first signed Bighill it was in April or May of the offseason.

Bighill was a special case, he was still engaged in finding work in the NFL when he made the decision to come back to the CFL permanently.  I think everyone was shocked when the Bombers signed him, especially Sam Hurl.

Clements is a LB while Baron is a DT so I'm not getting the comparison?

Sorry, I was thinking of Bear Woods, he was woody too.

Count me in for not wanting to lose BOLO. Also hate to lose Bailey, but if he moves on to get a bigger paycheque and a higher profile, then BOLO should be in his spot getting regular reps.

It would be pretty sad to lose Bailey and other B and C grade players like Clements and Gauthier, as it wouldn't cost much to retain them and their contributions are unheralded but significant.

It’s a ridiculous concept. If we have to be benching a guy for a third of the season to be able to afford him and maintain him, it’s not worth having him.

Might as well accept it, it's been the reality of the situation for the past 5 seasons, Jeffcoat has played 12-14 games in every season since arrival, other than his first when he played in 16 games.  When on the field he gives 100% effort and has been a game-changer, making the entire line much more effective, including Willie.  In all that time off, nobody has stepped up in his absence and demonstrated they are the rush-end that could replace his contribution.

I think the crux of this situation is that Walters has probably offered Jeffcoat a reduction commensurate with his playing time, and he's balked at accepting it.  For people who think Walters will be able to afford a proven stud, good luck, with a limited budget the replacement will have to come from within.

The uncertainty actually fucks up cap management- not to mention the roster in general.

Also - we didn’t have 6 meaningless games mid-late season and you sure as hell can’t plan for that.

I don't see it, DE's in waiting are probably coming off the PR on ELC's earning half what Jeffcoat makes. 6-gaming him deducts his salary from the cap, not that difficult to plan for if it's intentional and not accidental.

He doesn't need to be a depth guy, just needs some depth behind him that can take meaningful, impactful snaps.

Agree, it sure looks like he was game managed last season for what is likely a chronic hip injury.  If they can sign Jeffcoat for one more season and he spends 6 meaningless games mid-late season on the IR, it saves valuable cap money and it's the perfect opportunity to find his replacement and get him up to speed, be it Haba or someone else.

I can see if he was over 34..35....and totally a liability....He's not tho...and I wanna see if he is actually 100 percent healthy and has tossed the brace away.....and part of it I also think was whatever it was we were trying to do with the scheme there...Let him compete, and prove he top 2...3 again....if not we need to have more the cut-throat mentality and cur guys loose, as opposed to the old way of rewards for tender

Competition is good, but you fail to acknowledge the value of culture, which is essentially built on the knowledge and the experience gained by veteran players on how to prepare, play the game, and conduct themselves on and off the field.  Veteran players pass this knowledge down to the younger players.  O'Shea recognizes this as the key to success, based on 30 years of experience inside CFL locker rooms, and it appears he knows what he's doing.

For example players like Miller, Briggs and other long time vets. are the individuals that do the one on one teaching on ST, as the STC doesn't have enough hours in the day to answer un-asked questions and teach individuals that need to be brought up to speed quickly on the nuances of the CFL kicking game.

Without a well established ongoing culture, you end up with "Your Saskatchewan Roughriders!".

Ranthony signed with the Bombers a couple of times. He was signed in 2020 but when the season was cancelled he opted out of his contract. He re-signed in 2021 but was cut in camp.

Raleigh was on the Bomber practice roster before.

Ranthony was also on the Als and the RB's PR lists as far back as 2018, it appears he's still a FA lookin' for work.

I’m sure we got a few hundred grand left over. Just gotta wonder how much is needed to fill the roster. But when u look at a team like Hamilton and sask handing out insane deals, well, we prob have more left than I think. Even with Zach making more than everyone but Kelly. And you can always release some folks if need be. Maybe Augustine or a guy like that

Indicates what a rudderless ship Hamilton actually is in terms of player personnel, they've been throwing money at their D-line every year since they first signed Ja'Gared Davis in 2019.  Same thing over and over, they sign multiple FA stars from other teams searching for solutions, yet never get closer to establishing a top front 4.  Maybe this year will be different now that Ed Hervey is in charge! 😄
