The worst nightmare for the rest of the league has now surfaced......good luck trying to game plan around Chris...luv it

Gives them a whole new way to put the ball in the endzone, from 30 yards in he's a running threat they'll have to pay attention to.  The main thing his game was lacking in 2019 was patience, he didn't spend much time looking down field, hopefully he's learned to slow things down and take his time.

I’m not very interested in over paying a rotational Canadian who has never really jumped off the page with his play.

    Mason Bennett has looked better.

Similar to Anthony Bennet, Mason Bennett must be invisible, based on chatter I looked for him all last season and rarely caught sight of him doing anything noticeable.  As a rotational player may be ok, but the choice might come down to him or Kongbo.

Maybe it was just me but over the last few seasons Jeffcoat wasn't a guy that I was noticing making the big plays and disrupting the opposition.   WJ even though his numbers were down he was noticed on many many more plays forcing the QB to roll out or throw early.   Jeffcoat was more of the clean up guy that may have got the sack but only because WJ had pushed him into his arms.

I think you have this mixed up, when Jeffcoat is out Willie spends most of his time flailing about, the majority of his sacks occur when Jeffcoat is in the lineup.  Also not to be forgotten, when the Bomber pass-rush is "handled", Hall's secondary turns to mush.

And I can understand why you feel that way, but he's a difference maker that we don't have a replacement for right now.

That said, if you can find a difference maker on a rookie deal - that's a big deal (likely for next season though as DE's take a minute to percolate).

Blame the ******* Riders, they just re-signed Anthony Lanier for $250k and he probably sits out more games than Jeffcoat.

No way one team could do that, and not upset their apple cart and bastardize their line-up

That being said, if we were to lose those 3....trotting out at worst Bryant, Dobson, Eli, Neuf and Richmond as game one starters actually gives us likely an overall better....more nasty O-line than last yr, and we can sign in free agency another guy if we dont draft one to replace Kolo as the 6TH who is probably better and more versatile....so not too concerned there...That being said, not worried about Hardrick getting poached, and he's in no way shape or form considering retirement either

Hardrick and Gray won't be requiring huge boosts anyway to their salaries at this point....and any offer better than what our fair value would be isn't likely that big a gap regardless

Sure they could, all they'd have to do is cut the corresponding positional players after signing Bomber FA's and they'd be instantly better in most positions.  O'Day claims putting together an improved O-line is his main priority, so spending more/smarter money on the O-line shouldn't be a problem if it improves QB protection.   What better way to get ahead quickly than buying out a large chunk of a better teams O-line or an entire coaching staff!

Two weeks and a whole lot of signin' to do....The big two ....Brady and Dalton aren't doing us any favours by taking us to the edge of the cliff...IF they want to frig around then they better crap or get off the pot so we know where we're headed....FIFO showing cracks???

I think it's pretty risky to let players that are willing to re-sign for more or less the same money as last year reach FA, never know what offers they could receive that convince them to leave and screw up the team's continuity and depth.

For instance, say Sask. goes all in on their O-line and decides to offer Gray, Kona and Hardrick $30k more than Walters was planning to pay them.  All of a sudden, the O-line is at risk of losing 3 of it's starting members and has to find replacements, or Walters ends up coughing up more cash than he originally planned to retain them.  This is just a made up example of unexpected things that could happen, I repeat a made up example.

Sure. Fair market value. But we never reset the market. I'm certainly not suggesting that we don't pay handsomely for players. What we don't do is hand out contracts that drive the whole position price up league wide.

Depends what you mean by resetting the market, at the time Bighill first signed in 2018 he became the highest paid D- player in the CFL, only to be eclipsed by Jefferson's signing in 2019.  Decent chance Stanley was also the highest paid O-lineman in the league at one time as well.

The usual suspects. Ottawa or Edmonton who constantly overpay for free agents.

There's former XFL & USFL players now available as well.

Two hundred thousand is too much. Let him walk & we'll see what the market brings. By all means, Walters sgould present him with a contract but as a take it or leave it offer.

The Elks have Kevin Brown on an ELC, he was #2 behind Brady in rushing yards.  If any teams are interested in Brady, I suspect it would be BC, Sask. or Ottawa, but for the numbers he's looking for it makes little economic sense for any of those teams.

I bet Brady O is driving a hard bargain ...contract wise AND I bet we're prepared to provide him with a good deal....I would only hope that he lessens his expectations about wanting to set a new benchmark for rb's in the league....Looking at some of the other teams 'stars' taking less to make other signings more palatable for their club, says a lot and runs counter to wanting to set a new benchmark for yourself....Will he remain FIFO or will he move on to secure a more lucrative position ??..His choice and I hope he makes the right decision....that to remain in BlueNGold....We should hear something shortly

Stanback made about $170k last season and he's maybe the 4th or 5th best RB in the league now, making Brady the top paid RB in CFL history could be accomplished for $180k.  Who is going to offer him more?

The market has seemed to have changed again for starting qbs. The numbers are going down while the salaries for backups seem to be going up. As I said before, I'd like to see Zach restructure to give the Bombers a little more breathing room to sign our key free agent veterans that we truly need. If I know how the GMs in the CFL do business, I'm sure Walters has already approached Zach to restructure his deal.

I would assume Walters took all the money saving loopholes into consideration when negotiating Zach's last contract to get the most mileage out of his dollar.  But maybe there is a way to restructure it further without Zach taking a pay-cut.  If I was Walters I'd play the "save Dalton card".

I also wondered how he'd end up being classified. The real question is will he beat out Castillo and / or is  Castillo even in the plan? In theory the new player would come in on an ELC which would save some SMS. However it has impacts on the ratio both positive and negative. We'd gain back the DI spot that Castillo filled. We'd lose the Global spot currently used by Hansen.

I've lost track whether a team can roster 3 Globals. I believe that can be done but it also means you have to eliminate one import to offset that change. So you have an net impact of zero to the ratio across the board unless we find / use a Canadian DE as a back up ( Bennett ).

Is that a good thing or a bad thing, IDK. Castillo is a potential free agent and there is no guarantee he returns whether we want him or not. Not sure Hansen is returning either.

If Bede reaches free agency, I'd think it would be worth a discussion with him or his agent in the " tampering period ". Is his SMS hit higher or lower than Castillo. Noting that Bede can also punt which might be a consideration.

Didn't like the import kicker and global punter concept used in 2023 from both a ratio and performance point of view. Maybe we look at Liegghio as a punter if he reaches free agency.

Like everything else, ratio, and SMS are big questions.

Cutting Liegghio showed how serious O'Shea is about having a reliable FG kicker who can perform when the chips are down, it's a huge priority for this team and Castillo delivered.  Despite all the ratio implications it causes, I think they easily retain Castillo and work around the ratio once again, since there doesn't appear to be a Natl. FG kicker lined up to challenge him.

I'm not counting them at the moment because they don't have a "starter". They have two back-ups who will most likely each get starts. So, in that case, there may not be one guy in Hamilton who makes more than Brown.

All teams who know have an expected starter will be paying over 400k.

Missing out on Brown, the Ti-Cats don't have a lot of options left, I think Milanovitch hands the ball to Bo and tells him to "show me".  I don't think they're counting on retaining Shiltz who could be a hot commodity as #2 on multiple teams, and I doubt Powell can win 50% of his games if thrown into the fire again this season, although he has the potential to be good down the road.

What was Browns price tag here last yr...was it ever disclosed, or just assumptions...same with Prukop?

    15) Dru Brown, Winnipeg Blue Bombers (A)

    Hard money: $82,000
    Maximum value: $97,000

The Oklahoma State product has a $75,000 base salary with $7,000 in housing money and will collect $500 each time he plays more than 51 percent of Winnipeg’s offensive plays in a game.

Wasn't his nickname "Big Tuna" when he played or am I mistaken?

I think Barriere has great upside, just not sure I would be comfortable with a raw rookie at number 2. However, if he wins the job he wins the job.

Barriere looks to be the spittin' image of V.A., pocket passer with good mobility and a good arm, not much for rolling out or throwing on the run though, he likes to be planted.  He has the talent but whether he can learn to adjust his game or read the field at all remains to be seen, it only took V.A. 6 years to establish himself as a starter.

I missed that. Oh well, there's Milanovich-Litre or Thomas Erlington or even an American back if BO prices himself off our roster. If it comes to a choice between keeping one of either a $200k Oliveira or a higher priced receiver such as Schoen - I'd keep Schoen. Also, I'd like to see two QBs in the backfield - Collaros and Streveler. One thing seems pretty clear, Bombers don't have $$ for Oliveira, Schoen and Streveler.

Milanovich-Litre could definitely be used in place of Jackson and would be a handy offensive tool, but not as a replacement for Brady.  I like Argo Daniel Adeboboye but it appears he's under contract for at least another year.
