  1. yea cuz that henoc guy and greaves have just been such busts.. When the ratio goes down to 2 NI's we'll be golden. sigh. such quick, comedic wit. Watson, Volney, Woodson, Dunn, Swiston are all still either here or on CFL rosters are they not? 2 crappy injuries to guys plus Aprile going back to school tells me the drafting isn't nearly as piss poor as your attempting to make it out to be.. but I mean continue to slag an ex-gm on something that he wasn't really all that pathetic at, by all means... especially when said GM relied on current GMs input in said draft choices... the reason our canadian content is so piss poor is due to previous regimes mortgaging the future for a hope at winning now... even a complete idiot can see that.. Previous regimes? How long you gonna keep humming that tune??? Mack was in charge for part of 3 seasons & took part in 3 CFL drafts. He''s the reason we suck at the Canadian positions. On top of our lack of Canadian talent, he hired LaPo, fired laPo & hired Tim Burke to replace him which was an unmitigated disaster right from the start. Really not all that pathetic??? Kelly and I think even Taman at the end left our depth in shambles.. I mean, we had shawn gallant starting at safety for christ sakes at one point. we had no LB depth, no Dline depth behind Brown and very thin o-line depth behind the starters.. our canadian receivers were a joke plain and simple.. Since Mack was brought in, we have an actual progression plan of some sort at o-line, actual starting level LB, a plan in place to try and fix the safety spot again and some decent Dline depth in the pipeline. I think your blind if you think the talent hasn't been steadily improving. Its far from elite but its on the right path... a damn sight better then it was.. Now with Walters as the GM, I do fully expect it to improve via FA and probably same level of quality drafts.. Rebuilding the teams Non-Import talent base takes a long time when your unable to land any guys via FA and when you lose em due to crappy situations.. but this problem was in place BEFORE mack regardless if you believe it or not.. Spuds has me convinced. Let's hire Mack back and see how things play out over the next 3 years. We might reach 7 wins by the third year. Hurray!
  2. That's just it. I think they are building that many over the next few years. Problem is they would need at least 60 - 70 hotels or 8,000 - 10,000 additional rooms to meet the current needs for Grey Cup week. that's a big ask. not sure how you figure on that specific number. Toronto had just under 36k hotel rooms as of 2004... so it's hard to see a town like Regina adding 10k to however many they have Might be off on the number of hotel rooms. Thought I heard Winnipeg had something like 13,000 rooms which I was trying to use as a comparable, but if the GMA of Toronto (6 million) only has 36k, then my numbers are obviously off. Anyways Regina would need to add several thousand more rooms so that every out-of-towner has a chance at getting accomodations at a reasonable price and even with that city's recent impressive growth rate that will take decades.
  3. No they will not. Might get one years grace period but it won't be any more than that. As it should be. In a nine-team league where six teams make the playoffs, it should only take one year to contend for a playoff spot, which is usually 8 - 9 wins, and 2 years to contend for the Grey Cup. We're not talking about a 30-team league where half or two-thirds of the teams don't make the playoffs That's ridiculous, you have to take a more in depth look into things than simply wins and losses, especially when the Bombers are moving into a 5 team conference with stiff competition. I don't think it's ridiculous at all. Bombers should be competitive and be able to win 8 games minimum next season. Other teams can do it, why not the Bombers? Saskatchewan went from 5-13 in 2011 to 8-10 in 2012. TIcats improved from 3-15 in 2008 to 9-9 in 2009. Stamps went from 4-14 in 2004 to 11-7 in 2005. Argos improved from 3-15 in 2009 to 9-9 in 2010 and from 6-12 in 2011 to 9-9 with a Grey Cup victory in 2012. Those are some recent examples. Bombers have an added advantage of reigning in the other teams this season with the expansion draft because the 10-12th best imports and 7th and 8th best non-imports on all those other teams are better than the Bomber equivalent. Talent discrepancy between all the other teams and the Bombers should narrow ever so slightly but every little bit helps. Bombers will have ample opportunities to improve the team this off-season. They said they will be a player in free agency. Well that better consist of more than trading and signing Zach Collaros to a contract because if that's all they do, they will end up like Edmonton - a team with a good Qb and little else. Sign Harris - he will help with Canadian content immensely. Sign Dressler - our receivers aren't anything great and he would immediately become our No. 1. Sign a halfway decent O-lineman - yeah, even someone like Picard who is on the downward side of his career. He 's better than our current centre and better than bringing in garbage like Dewitt last year. Our current line is too young or not good enough, take your pick. Time for some effective change there. Sign free agents for our secondary. Ours was crap most of the year and made up mostly of midgets. No real gamers back there since 2011. If free agents aren't an option then scour the States for a few that are taller than 5'9". I'm tired of this attitude that it takes "at least 2 years to rebuild." This attitude seemed to be rubbing off on Burke as that is what he said at the end of this season so he can leave for all I care. That's a loser attitude and excuses slow progress. If the team makes some good free agent signings and fills in the rest with some talented players from the down south no reason they can't make the playoffs. yeah just like that sign everyone on your wishlist easy right? Except it's never that easy. Chances of getting 1 impact player in free agency are low never mind multiples. Yes you can turn things around in one season, but it doesn't always happen and if there isn't a huge turn around in record you can't judge solely on that. When you're a team with so little continuity and no quarterback expecting a quick turn around is just setting people up to fail. That's just an example of what the Bombers can do. Doesn't have to be those exact players although I won't lie - I would love to have Harris and Dresser on this team. I don't buy Denmark as a number 1 receiver on this team - too inconsistent. And Harris would be a ratio changer as well. Signing impact players through free agency is difficult but it can be done and has been. Combine that with some diamond in the rough find from another team (Chad Owens) or in the US and a team can turn things around quite quickly. Turnarounds don't always happen, you're right, but they sure seem to have happened to other teams quite a bit recently! I wish it would happen here vs. this slow and steady approach which turned out to be total bs under Joe Mack.
  4. Disagree. Not necessary. We can do better in FA With a re-thinking of our offensive game plan, and a real QB, we can use guys like Miles for possession and Denmark for that big play. But these are just examples. We've had no problem finding "that receiver guy" in the past, we've just had problems getting him the ball. Just look at all the years we didn't win with Milt Stegall because the o-line wasn't good enough or we didn't have a good qb.... there's other places to break the bank, not at receiver. I'd take Dressler on the team, but not at any price. Bad luck in 2007 and rustiness (from sitting the last two games of the season) or cockiness in 2001. Bombers should be able to afford a legit top receiver and at least a few good pieces on the O-line simultaneously.
  5. Bombers can have their cake and eat it too. Cap will probably go up by $500,000 for next season so $200,000 for Dressler is fair. We won't have to overpay for Collaros - he will probably get a base around $200,000 to $225,000 whereas Ray makes a $450,000 base and Lulay makes a similar base. We would have one of the cheapest Qbs in the league. There will be plenty of money left for the O-line and Henoc.

  8. Probably best if Burke leaves. Would be strange to have a former head coach employed as a defensive coordinator on the same team. Possibly lead to some awkward situations next season. Bring on Stubler!

  10. Ugh. Can't stand SportsNet's low budget presentation nor their awful announcers and hosts - Gene Principe lol. If they don't have regional coverage of the NHL on Saturdays it will be awful. Means we will be stuck with even more Leaf games. Hurray! Hope Cuthbert stays on TSN. At least we would still have him as the lead announcer for CFL games. Could you imagine Rod Black as the lead announcer is Cuthbert left for Sportsnet? Maybe with the loss of the NHL, TSN will devote more tv time to the CFL. A half post-game show after each game and a weekly CFL show starting in the pre-season extending all the way to the week after the Grey Cup. Don't understand how anyone can dislike McKenzie. Great insider, informed and always comes across as professional on-air.
  11. Weston Dressler is a free agent and he certainly is an impact player. Bombers should throw the bank at him. $200,000 + easy. We would have our number one receiver.
  12. Khari did a pretty good job at barking orders to those contestants on the Amazing Race so he has that going for him. On a serious note, if I was to choose between the two I would go with O'Shea. You appear to be right on the interacting with players part. Personally, I'd rather have Higgins though.
  13. I'll feel better about this hire once the Bombers hire an asst. GM with some good connections down south. Danny Mac sounds promising.
  14. Rebus, refresh my memories about the 91 and 98 Grey Cup in Winnipeg. I can't seem to recall the issues with the transportation. I remember Winnipeg being praised for the 1991 Grey Cup as the city appeared to reinvigorate Grey Cup week after many years of it languishing in larger cities.
  15. What's interesting is that some fans in Regina think the Riders can win the Grey Cup bid in 2018 - only 5 years from now. New stadium obviously helps, but what's funny is they feel the hotel situation will be resolved by then. One poster was saying they would have an additional 1400 - 1500 rooms which I believe would still put them around 30 - 40% of the hotel capacity of Winnipeg. Assuming similar growth rates as the past few years (around 8,000 - 10,000 persons) Regina will probably need another 25 years or so to get to 500,000 people and a corresponding increase in hotel rooms to adequately supply out-of-towners for Grey Cup week. Hopefully by then they have an actual convention centre as well. Still, I think it's fine for the city to have the Grey Cup every 8-10 years. Anything more though and that's pushing it..unless other cities in the rotation do not want or incapable of hosting it (see Montreal and the problems with the Big O's roof)
  16. yeah don't worry, this place is not somewhere you'd find Regina apologists. Facts are that it's a city of 200000 people roughly, it is way too small time for an event where you expect 40k plus in the stands. Maybe if the league stops jerking off that fanbase to no ends they'll realize that you can't host it in a small time city like that. that may well be true... but i broached this topic very candidly on OB (remember that shithole?lol) and no matter how plain i made it that Regina simply isn't able to support this event to the level it (and the fans) deserve, the troll-baiting apologists took swipes at me for it until i eventually cracked and told them to **** themselves. (somehow i didn't get banned for that... my ban ultimately came for something entirely different) That probably had more to do with who posted it than what you said. God damn centre of the universe big city ******* trashing the prairies! Let's sacrifice him to our gods delete
  17. His inability to beat the Riders in the playoffs must just eat him alive. He threw for more yards than Durant...the running game was the true difference. Well 60 or so of those yards were in garbage time. He was also horribly inaccurate and turned the ball over 2 times. Burris sucks once the temperature goes below zero.
  18. Bluto, you 're a Grey Cup regular aren't you? Did you go to the Grey Cup in Regina this year?
  19. Glad the Riders won. Hope the cats don't make it back to the Grey Cup game for another 14 years. Henry proves he can't win in the cold again. Surprise, surprise. Which is why he will never be considered one of all-time greats (top 10 QBs). Austin or the Offensive coordinator called a horrible first half. Ran the ball twice. How stupid is that?
  20. Great news! Best running back of the 2000s. Closest one behind him would be Joffery Reynolds.
  21. This is pretty selective though. Glenn has performed well in "big games." Played well in the 2007 Eastern Final, 2011 Eastern Semi-final and the 2012 Western Final. Now, if you said he hasn't played well in the majority of big playoff games, that would be an accurate assessment. It's pretty inaccurate to say he can't perform in any big games because history has proven he can.
  22. Too bad. He always seemed to be a bit of a long shot for the Bombers head coaching position. Wonder what Calgary is paying him?
  23. TSN wants to maximize their ratings. I would hope they have the common sense to use Cuthbert.
  24. This is all true. Also on the impossible to like list are Durant, Sheets, & Chamblin. I took the Stamps loss last week almost as badly as I would a Bomber loss, just b/c I so badly wanted Calgary to have their dressing room and win a Cup in their home. There problem with some Ticat fan posters, yourself excluded, is they seek out other sites to troll. For the most part Rider fans just take part in being knobs on their own site. Sorry, I'm not aware of anything Durant or Chamblin have done that would make them impossible to like. Explain?
