  1. This isn't the NHL dude. I would think renting an apartment here would be cheaper than several of those other cities which would make a big difference to virtually all the players as several would be on their first contract and are only making in the 60,000 - 80,000 range. And what does Edmonton and Hamilton offer that Winnipeg doesn't. I mean really. Player - hey man, I'm going to Edmonton over Winnipeg because they have that cool mall with the indoor amusement park and indoor waterslide park. Winnipeg doesn't have that so that totally cinched it for me. Hamilton was actually my second choice, because...well, um....because it's close to a large body of polluted water!
  2. So where would these guys get the news about Winnipeg being so bad? Most of the guys that come up readily admit they know nothing about the CFL or Canada until they get here. Is some agent poisoning the well? When they come to Canada, they pretty much are at the end of their professional ropes as their NFL dreams are either dead or on hold, and so it would be a case of Beggars can't be choosers, I would think. Players talk to each other. Most guys coming up to the CFL know someone up here already I thought our state of the art stadium with its state of the art training facilities and therapy rooms was supposed to change all that?
  3. But the fans and media say he's terrible so he must be Gimme a break. Mack was a terrible GM. His approach to free agency, trading with other teams, and handling the QB position we're all below average. He also made poor coaching hirings and firings and last time I checked, had a losing record as commander. Stats may be for losers but according to the stats, Mack is a loser. If you say so it must be true. Because you're the expert. What was our record under Joe Mack? One Grey Cup appearance in 3 seasons... .333 Grey Cup appearance percentage. Remarkable really, unmatched by any GM not named Popp Yet when you look at that season as a whole, it was a fluky Grey Cup appearance. Start strong at 7-1. Play horrible down the stretch going 3-7 never capable of winning two in a row....which leads to Bombers hosting Eastern Final, and not having to win two in a row to reach the Grey Cup game, with a middling 10-8 record against a Ticats teams overwhelmed by the cold. Predictably, Bombers get their butts kicked by BC in the final. Joe Mack winning % something like .320. Finished last in the league in 3 of 4 seasons (counting this season). Worst Canadian depth in the league his entire tenure. Worst Qbs in the league his entire tenure. That's the Joe Mack era for you. Horrible in almost every way.
  4. Asper isn't responsible for the cost overrruns on the stadium though. It was never clear if the money given to Asper was over and above the amount of money spent designing the stadium. Wouldn't be surprised if it was.
  5. Higgins would be the best choice for this team - proven track record both as a GM and coach. Connections down south allowed the Esks to be a perennial contender year-in and year-out due to all the talent he brought in (Ray the most obvious example of that). Why would the Bombers even consider Walter as the GM? What experience does he bring to the table? What connections does he have with US colleges or NFL teams(for player cuts)?
  6. Tell me about all of his successes then. Tell me about all of Creswin's huge projects. Do they compare with what Leo Ledohowski has done in this city when it comes to large construction projects? NOTE: This is not meant as support for Ledohowski's dome proposal for the Bombers a few years back as that was a pipedream. Just saying I don't think David Asper's "success" is as great as some claim it to be. I'm thinking Asper shouldn't be on the BOD either. 2005 proves he can't help himself from getting involved in the day-to-day affairs of the team.
  7. Asinine question. One of the selling point of the new stadium was that it would provide the Bombers with additional revenue so they could finally compete with other teams when it came to players, coaches and management. It was supposed to help them, not hinder them. Also, what are you talking about when you say it will take a few years for them to get out from under this debt? They have to pay off this debt over the course of 45 years! Things won't suddenly change in a few years. They will still have to pay $4.5 million in debt obligations every year a few years from now.
  8. Well glad you're finding it funny. It's not like this franchise has been an absolute gong show since 2009 or anything. i find it hilarious actually. you mad bro? this team has gone thru some struggles, no doubt. they keep trying to resolve it which is fine by me. its not like lapo or kelly or daley are still here.. ditto dinwiddie, lefors, randle or michna.. change is good, when the club sees failure they act on it.. I really dont know what else you want to see happen. I get you think there is some grand conspiracy at play with ex bombers players and coaches getting special consideration but its not like the coaches and gms are not without solid backrounds.. walters, if kept as gm, would be the first one without a glowing resume.. but then again, thats a new change isnt it? Joe mack did not have a glowing resume as you put it. He was out of football for ten years and out of the CFL for 25 years.
  9. Well, if he has then the Bomber Board should make it public. Oh, I forgot.... the Bomber Board..... The announcement of Miller as the Blue Bombers CEO will be leaked by a board member. Other board members, feigning outrage, vow to remove said member from the board once he/she has been found out.
  10. Creswin certainly isn't a successful business either.
  11. Well that game should assure at least 2 or 3 of the Bombers' secondary and Casey Creehan lose their jobs at the end of the season. Can't believe there was a few people in the other Bomber forum who thought Casey Creehan should keep his job because of a few supposedly "good" performances by the D. Good? More like the offense for the opposing teams just happened to be struggling at the time. D is back to its normal crappy self.
  12. Just took a look at Ottawa's prices. Outside of the club seats and field seats, Winnipeg's prices are easily more expensive for comparable seats - in some cases, hundreds of dollars per season. The three cheapest price points for Ottawa are also as cheap and cheaper than the P7s at Bomber games. If the Bombers are claiming their seats are cheaper they are lying.
  13. No kidding and it misses the point entirely. In the documentary, the players were given a info. packet at the beginning of one of the recent seasons saying there no evidence that concussions would lead to any negative long-term effects nor would one concussion lead to a greater likelihood of subsequent concussions - both proven false. Yet, the NFL committee with that prick Kaval (I think that is his name) in charge of investigating NFL injuries arrived at this conclusion. I sure this committee, who for the most part consisted of no one in the field of neurology and not at the level of expertise as those outside the committee featured in the documentary, had a pre-determined conclusion prior to any "research" taking place - that being, there are little, if any, negative consequences experienced by those who sustain concussions during the course of their NFL career. I'm sure players knew the long-term consequences of playing football in terms of the what it did to their various body parts like the knees, hips and feet. What was less clear to the players up until the 90s was the damage that was done to their brains after sustaining several concussive and sub-concussive hits over the course of their careers. The league obfuscated, denied and discredited those whose research shed light on the debilitating effects of head injuries in the NFL. For that, the NFL should be taken to task. Even to this very day, Goodell continues to refer to those hired by the NFL to research concussions when asked by the media if there are negative consequences of head injuries..just like he did back in 2009 when he was asked to appear before a committee. We continue to do research, blah, blah, blah...Sorry, but the research has been done and it's pretty clear that a football player who sustains several shots to the head over the course of his career is much more likely to have memory problems, develop alzheimers or dimensia or some other disease of the brain than someone in the general population. The only thing that doesn't seem to be clear is why some people don't seem to develop long-term memeory problems after leaving football - is it luck? Less shots to the head? Or is it genetics? That's one issue that has yet to be determined so hopefully in the next several years as more deceased football players' brains are studied we will have a better understanding. NFL also needs to do a better job with long-term disability for players and counselling for life outside of football. It's the least the owners could do considering how much they make and how little they put in (most pay a tiny fraction of those Billion dollar stadiums). What seemed truly scary towards the end of the investigatve report were the studies on the brains of those two kids, one 21 and the other 18, with the formation of that tao or tal or whatever they called it - similar to NFL players two to 3 times their age. With such research coming to light, I wonder if we will see a shift in the number of parents allowing their kids to participate in football instead choosing a safer sport like basketball, baseball, soccer, or more individual sports like swimming and tennis. I doubt it will mean the end of the NFL, but it could lead to a future where the quality of on-field play declines as athletically-inclined teens choose other sports.
  14. Were I a betting man, I would say December will see Miller removing the "interim" badge off of Walters -- "After tirelessly scouring the globe in search of the next great Bomber GM, we realized we had the best candidate in Walters right under our noses all along." I'm a becoming a little cynical regarding the intermediate tag on Miller's and Walter's current positions. If they appear to do no more than an adequate job over the last half of the season that may very well be good enough for the board to remove those interim tags and give them those positions with fresh 3-4 year contracts. The exhaustive search for a CEO and GM will be some half-hearted effort with the conclusion already known. I also am beginning to wonder if Burke might be back as head coach next year. He talks about new coaching positions being added to the team (QB coach finally!) and revamping the scouting department like he is going to be back next year. Maybe Miller has assured him he is safe for at least another season?
  15. Wonder how many of those $200 season passes the Bombers ended up selling. I know there was 5300 spots allocated for gameday. Anyone know? For the games I have gone to, I park at the MPI building for $10. It's about a 20 minute walk from the stadium entrance. I heard estimates of costs for renting additional buses and additional cadets for traffic control after that first exhiibition game to be in the neighbourhood of $100 000 per game. Not sure if that's true, but if it is that would have been an additional $1 million in costs the Bombers would have to deal with. Guess they don't have to worry about that anymore...
  16. Except a few Bomber players on twitter have already said the Bomber fans were classy for cheering for Buck when he went in. So yeah, I'm pretty sure your claims that most of the Bomber locker room feels the same way are dubious They are just tryign to say the right thing out in the public. So you know what they are really thinking? Cool, bro.
  17. Did players in the Winnipeg Jets organization think the fans were unclassy for cheering Teemu Selanne everytime he touched the puck during that game in MTS Centre on December 2011?
  18. It's not being spun anyway. People wanted to cheer for Buck because he was a class act. Yeah, he wasn't a very good QB for most of his time here, but he was always respectful in the way he carried himself. Remember when Khari jones was a sideline reporter for CBC back when they shared the TV contract with TSN. Whenever the cameras showed him on the sidelines at Canad Inns Stadium the crowd would give him a big ovation. What happened last night was no different except Buck happens to still be playing football. I think some people here are trying to convince themselves that the fans cheering for Buck was more of an FU to the BOmbers than a genuine show of appreciation for Buck because they still think Buck's poor play has held the Bombers back for years. Based on the marginal, and I mean MARGINAL improvement at the QB position since Buck was relegated to the backup position and since then traded, I think it's safe to say Buck wasn't holding anything back. Others' resentment of Buck shouldn't be projected onto other Bomber fans - it was a genuine show of appreciation, nothing more.
  19. Except a few Bomber players on twitter have already said the Bomber fans were classy for cheering for Buck when he went in. So yeah, I'm pretty sure your claims that most of the Bomber locker room feels the same way are dubious
  20. That's an interesting theory. While these are professional coaches we are talking about, they aren't any more or less likely to make certain moves out of spite than anyone in the general working population. It's a possibility although probably a remote one.
  21. Boltus is here pretty much entirely because of Bellefool.... we want to keep a guy with evaluation skills like that around? Boltus is here pretty much entirely because of Bellefool.... we want to keep a guy with evaluation skills like that around? Given he barely played him in Hamilton, he probably wanted a better evaluation of what he had to offer with some actual game reps. He was pretty bad though..might need more reps or maybe he is just plain awful regardless of the reps they give him? Bombers might have been better off bringing in Porter - similar to Goltz but an ever so slight upgrade. Let's not forget that Bellefueille was probably instrumental in bringing in Peach and he has played decent in his time with the Bombers.
  22. Well the lack of talent on this team is Mack 's fault. He wasted the fanbase's time for 4 seasons with little to show for it.
  23. Thank you for the recap..... I didn't think our o-line was that horrible... still not good enough but definitely better then what we have had before. 2 new guys to the CFL is very hard for them to pull off. The Blue will *have* to sign experienced CFL O-linemen for next year... also Marcel Bellefeuille, Tim Burke both have to be gone and new fresh regime needs to come and start with a clean slate. I don't care if they choose to not bring back Bellefeuille, but he doesn't exactly have a lot to work with out there.
  24. No point in firing Burkey even though he is done here like dinner. Wait until the off-season when all the best candidates are available for an interview.
  25. Nothing sickening about it. What they said is true. Team is lucky to get the support they get based on the lack of effort/execution out there this season. Stewart can take the bus out of town with Kito.
