  1. need to finally treat the last hold over of the loyalty/reward system like a band aid and rip er off and let stuff heal in open air....Bring in a guy with the skill set for the position...and let him grow and learn on the fly in the early part of the season and see if he takes the job and runs..Much like we did with that SAM a few years back...once he kinda flatlined and gassed out...we made a deal for Darby.....keep Biggie on the 6 game for now and so he gets paid...and is here as a defacto coach/mentor and if we need him for spot duty....he is good coverage as you know he can play....I just think full time reps now for him is a big ask

I generally am Team Booch on everything but the one place we disagree is that I'd watch a 100% Canadian CFL before I'd watch all American. I'm here for the Canadiana of it all.

go watch university then...when you factor in filling out a roster...PR an injury lists with all Canadian talent...roughly 675 guys will be needed minimum to fullfill that....so basically you would be watching a glorified semi pro league...40 percent of guys would be top notch...rest....would b=never had made an active roster...I wouldnt pay 2024 money to watch that

If Bighill gets replaced by Gauthier in our starting lineup, that’s borderline fireable

yeah....that be brutal and major step backward

Like @Mike said. If a 32 year old career STer becomes the starting middle linebacker for 6 weeks or more, somebody ****** up really bad.

and for ratio reasons we dont need but 1 Canadian on defence anyway...so yeah...thats a major fail...no knock on Gauthier as he fills a key role....it not being prolonged starter tho

Where did I say position allocation? Lol that's an absurd leap of brain fog. You're fried

"Of the 45 players named to the roster, each team may dress an active roster of 45 players, broken down as follows:

Maximum of 3 QBs (no designation)

    Maximum of 19 American players

    Minimum of 21 National players

    Including one nationalized American

    Minimum of 1 Global player"

Unless a team only rosters 18 American players, you got cut because 19 other American players provide better overall value to the roster than you. Kapeesh.

Reread your babble...u said there is allocated positions based on nationality....and I know a roster makeup...been on several...both sides of the border and now help in recruiting and training and getting guys a chance to make a roster so I'm pretty well versed in it but thanks...

I never made that point, I've never been talking about Americans who don't come North lol. I thought we were having different convos, even said that earlier.

How so? You haven't made a coherent point. You understand there are different roster spot allocations for Canadian, American, and Global players right? CFL.ca can explain it for U...

No there's not...each team deems where they wanna play a Canadian versus an American based on who they recruit...draft...etc...there is not allocated positions based on nationality.. So obviously u are far from coherent...and the fact that there is limited Canadian starting talent...a blue chip American may get cut for a less talented Canadian because a team doesn't have the adequate Canadian depth elsewhere to facilitate a ratio switch...kapeesh???

  5. Just now, Pepper_Brooks said:

You lost a roster spot to a less talented American, because some other American player provides more overall value to the team in that American roster spot. If a player is truly blowing it out of the water they will find a way into the roster.

American players are the exception not the rule in the CFL. This is our League 🇨🇦

    U just don't get it

Unless we're not utilizing all the American roster spots no one is losing an opportunity to a Canadian. Based on our success since 2019 I can't fault our coaches on their usage of Canadian starters and DIs, that would be asinine.

Reducing roster spots for Canadians will negatively impact the development of Canadian players. You may be more interested in the NFL, check it out

If u are say starting 2 Canadian relievers...and a new import comes up and blows them out of the water...but is cut ...because there isn't adequate Canadian depth elsewhere...then yes...u just lost a roster spot to a less talented player...and it happens all the time...and it deters guys coming up who would be Allstars in their first yr

Most the top talent in the CFL come from U.S schools...many of which spent the final yrs of high-school at U.S prep schools...there are some for sure who came out of CIS but they are the minority in terms of impact guys...but they fill out the required depth

We've been to 4 straight Grey Cups, we've unarguably been the best team in the league for around 1647 days straight. What's your point here exactly? Seems like we've utilized our roster within the constraints pretty damn well, couple lucky bounces and we're 4peat champs. Proof is in the pudding, not sure what you're eating lol.

Could have won the other 2...there a point..and couple lucky bounces and we could have been 1 for 4 too...goes both ways

I could definitely handle reducing the ratio a bit, but would never want to see it done away with entirely. If I were commish I'd reduce the ratio by 2 starters and make the new reward for most Canadian snaps by season's end more substantial (1st rounder instead of 2nd rounder maybe?). We'd get 2 arguably better players on the field, likely improving the quality of play, while incentivizing playing the best homegrown talent as often as possible

been around 30 changes to ratio since like back in 30's...not like it hasnt been happening....even since 60's there been a lot....we used to have that Naturalized Canadian for a while in the 60's as well...I sure @SpeedFlex27 could speak on that....they did away with it after a while, U could have 3 but I believe a lesser tlaented guy lost his job due to it, so went crying to the courts....am I correct @SpeedFlex27 ?

So ratio issues and reductions have been an ongoing thing since before the league became the CFL in the 50's...and after it...and the game is better for it...I get the love of the Canadians being employed, but if one is to think some of the guys who play teams only, are better than American counterparts who get cut because only so many Imports can start then you are sadly mistaken....and the whole point of what I am making is many talented guys say thanks but no thanks, and won't come...and it's too bad as many would likely push already established American starters out of their spot....or to a back-up role..

Just now, Blue In BC said:

Keep the Canadian starters the same but add 2 more DI's to replace 2 Canadian back ups.

that would help a lot actually...sometimes now the quality of back-up to a Cnadian is a severe down grade

The fact remains, American players aren't getting edged out by less talented Canadians for roster spots. They're up against fellow Americans for import slots and work visas, no more, no less. To snag one of those limited import roster spots you've got to outperform all others (American and Canadian) in your position and prove your value to the team overall. It's as straightforward as that. Having limited roster spots for international players is common world wide aside from the big 4 north american leagues.

And your post doesn't even touch on the point I'm driving at! 😆

u have zero clue what u natter about at the best of times...let alone this...shhhh

Yeah, the ratio rule among others.

rtio has been nshrinking for decades...if anything the game over all is better....no?....and if isnt...why u still watch?

  9. 27 minutes ago, Bigblue204 said:

Yup, just one of things that make our game great!

the rules are what make it great...not who's under the helmet...and the best available players would make it even better....talent/competition wise....If they were all American....all Japanese...all Mexican....all white...blck...combo of all nations....and played in Canada....under the same rules...in same stadiums....wouldn't bother me one bit....If it was all Canadian tho...I'd watch...to a point....but would not pay the money I do now when attending for a sub par product....I could watch Junioor or Canadian University for that....for a fraction of the price...BTW...I was born in Canada and lived here till about 16....and moved back when I entered the work force...So i'm not some Anti-Canadian basher

  10. I can\'t see any player wearing one in game to be honest...it one thing with no contact these days in practice...game is totally different, and in scrums...big collisions etc....do they come flying off?...get re-arranged on a guys helmet and block his sight?...will they be litterd all over field much like a helmet now...and need to be put back on..delaying a game or having a guy have to come off?....

It's weird to say that the Bombers have missed out on players because of ratio concerns because it's balanced out by playing an import somewhere else. So it's not even that you are better than the incumbent Canadian you are trying to displace, you have to better than the Canadian than another import is better than the typical Canadian at their position.

You can argue that the Bombers have not really taken advantage of some of the new rules surrounding imports, but the players filling those spots likely aren't going to be higher level imports.

You dont get it....due to ratio to fill out the roster....many many inferior Canadians get role jobs as oppsoed to Americans...so if say an LB has a opp to compete for a job....but doesn't get it say due to another American they go with...he has no hope to make the roster on teams and try and earn a spot in practice.... the ST lb's filling out the roster will be inferior Canadians...who aren't good enough to be a Canadian starter...so guys won't come due to that...a lot of times as well they may be better than a projected Canadian Starter....but again.....won't get the job because there just isnt enough starter quality Canadians on some rosters to change your ratio...Guys careers are short as it is, and for a U.S guy to come up here, already behind the 8-ball due to ratio and risk catastrophic injury with really next to no chance to make it...they decline the offer....doubt me if you wish....but these are facts...and has happened a ton

I'm sure some probably have no clue about the ratio or why it matters that the starter/back-up are Canadian.

true....and on the flipside we lose out on a ton of really good talent too for those same reasons....Players agents will fill them in on thE situation, and what they up against, also players talk and have conveyed to buddies that they got cut as an inferior player was used (ratio reason) , and to not waste their time, or risk injury....

Mos made a great comment in the presser yesterday. He said that they all really value both CMI and Clercius going into their last ncaa season knowing they weren't going to get the reps that they wanted, but sticking it out with their teams any way and finding new roles to support their teams. Its some thing you dont see in the transfer portal era. Guys hit it and quit it soo fast now. I mean we have lots of guys who transferred multiple times on the roster. It takes a special mind set for guys like that, especially soo talented and athletic to choose loyalty to their program even if their program doesn't choose it to them.

Really makes me think both those guys are gonna overachieve here.

Love all 3 our first picks....and we got what we want character wise....but aso scored big time on physical attributes and huge upside to contribute...and actually contribute now

Say what you want about Kolo (I'm a firm believer this is Eli's year) but a spin move during one on ones is very different than a spin move inside during a game. I know most know that.

exactly...and in games more times than not he got abused on any move..stunt...if he wasnt involved on a chip or 50 block...he was a weak spot...and cant count how many times he just got bull rushed into the pocket...

Little surprised about Waggoner. Brown was a kr and rb. We are thin at rb, but might just be the reality that no imp rb is gonna make it if they aren’t a full time kr. Alston was starting day one of tc which shows all you need to know about how important that is.
Im guessing most of these guys failed fifo/adaptability to the league checks.

I wonder if the league would be better off having the first cut after a week of practices.

been saying all along...Chris Smith....learn the name....guy has the skill set to be an impact guy in the CFL....Crazy returner and bust it speed at the RB spot.....Kolo getting owned...flailing like usual....If Eli isn't manning center something is seriously wrong with our coaching staff....put the best guys on the field...

Yep, I also think that the ability to roll out MCI, and clercius amongst other good blockers will help allow us to transition away from carrying the extra OL.

Fox is another head scratcher from last year. One of my biggest roster worries right now is that we are again going to try to have Thomas play the most reps of any DT. Lawson and Fox should be penciled in as DT starters right now.

100 percent....I have the sick feeling same is gonna happen on oline with Kolo...I think it time for my to go Tanya Harding on Thomas..Kolo and Schpackel to eliminate them out of the equation....Schpackel owning Kolo prob just secued his roster spot sadly over someone like Kelly...or Charbaneau

  16. 12 hours ago, wbbfan said:

Augustine did improve a lot on teams over last year as well. I cant see an out right cut of him. He might end up being a scratch some or end up on the pr.

Yeah....JA isn't going anywhere...he has become a valuable foot soldier....Cutting him on roster for whom?....makes zero sense

MCI was the smartest pick of our draft as it finally allows us to roster an impactful DI on defence now, and have a fullback who is an actual threat out of the backfield, as well be a key piece in a grind em out drive in 4th qi=uarter working with BO

Interesting to hear Osh's comments re: Fox, and highlightiong all the traits he brings in the middle..most of which we were lacking last year...He didn't miracously learn that the last 4 months of the off-season...was there already in B.C....and just an example of a wasted opportunity, and a guy stuck behind another player in the reward system...or the we gotta play a pointless fullback

Back to Training Camp discussion. Man, you get the impression Michael Chris-Ike is going to be a factor (no, not the jabari arthur factor) on this team. I am not usually one to pay attention to the combine results but for a guy that is 6'1" 225 to be the top in the cone and shuttle is impressive. Combine that with having a bunch of special teams tape; describes himself as aggressive on teams; it really sounds like he is exactly what we need. You could also see O'Shea beaming (the classic O'Shea beam) when talking about him.

    top 40 time too

I don’t even see a problem with wavering if more information becomes available.
For example, early 2022, I still thought we for sure needed an American running back. Brady’s play totally took a 180 and I was glad to change my opinion.
Something like: Having no interior DL who could push the pocket and 2 gassed out DEs cost us the last 2 Grey cups. That’s a hill I’ll die on.

I'm on that hill as well....and looking at a couple other lil mounds of crappolla too lol

He was real banged up last year. If he’s taking full reps in the first days of tc, you can expect he’s recovered.
I think it’s a good sign as well that we have Moses and Petrishen in camp this year. Some of the past tcs we haven’t brought in any competition.
I think Cole will flow to the first opening. Be it by injury, suckage combination of those or what ever else.
It makes sense to give him reps at S now, even if we plan to have him at lber. It doesn’t cost us any thing and it bakes in some positional flexibility.  Though Cole at S would be terrifying for opposition wrs.

yep. And they are very high on Charbonneau indeed. Plus gauthier played out of his mind in the gc.

If Biggie is actually healthy....as I know for a fact last year he played all yr banged up....and then the Grey Cup Fiasco...he should be very serviceable if we actually roster rotation pieces...Really hope Moses steps up and shows a lot on teams, and grabs that DI spot Cole had last year, and is allowed to take reps on defence and learn from Biggie and Wilon while he terrorizes on teams...If he is 100 percent healthy I can see him being a long term answer there...Don't sleep on Ayers either

Cole needs to be in the starting lineup taking 80% of reps somewhere....and I hope it's at SAM as that where he will make most impact...BA if actuallyb healthy, and used as I think Younger is going to use his safety this year will be just fine...Tho I would really like Holm there and BA the swing guy taking reps all over tha back 7...

If Ford steps in and takes a spot...even better as gives us tons of flex with different fronts we can show, and ways to use some playmakers...thats if we only declare 1 actual starter on defence being Canadian...which I am pretty certain we will do....will be interesting who is where...and I expect a surprise cut this yr as well on ndefence...and early too
