Good point, he was practicing since like LD iirc.
I think it is always worth having Canadians like that. I'd take as many lotto ticket flyers on Canadians with upside as I could get. Generally, you are lucky to have a couple of guys in the draft who have decent athleticism and size that could be polished into Ss if they fulfill their potential. True cover guys, little on Sam's, are rare and valuable.
They get a LOT of leash to figure out if they have any thing left too. BLM, Zach, and Harris are all great examples of that. All 3 looked fully cooked for more than a little while and managed to get back to being good.
Khari was like 29 when he broke in with us, too. But you have far better chances of developing a QB who is in his late 20s when he gets up here than a kid out of college these days. The NFL is all over every single archetype at QB. No longer do they exclude system guys, or none pro offense guys. So, the kids we get access to who have 1 NFL TC or less are generally really lackluster.

Tait with another gem. Some interesting tidbits jump out at me. It sounds to me like he wanted to continue to play, and we weren't going to bring him back.
I had a really good exit meeting with Osh (head coach Mike O’Shea). At that point, I was still kind of planning on continuing playing if that was possible. Then a few weeks went by after the Grey Cup and we just kind of continued our conversation and he let me know there was a chance that this opportunity would be available.
thats what I alluded to....I think Walter's was taking the option awau from Osh...so...Osh couldnt cut the cord so now he i a coach

Great depth with Shay....SMith....Makonzio..Kramdi for varied use....to let the 4th pick in the draft in his draft yr walk...U.S school trained cause he was hurt part of the yr here is just dumb when he's a National
Just look at his rookie yr numbers alone...better numbers than kramdi...and thats Kramdi after 5 yrs in league....and peeps here just rave about his awesomeness...so to have another just as awesome Canadian...where's the issue? 🤣

CFL ratio rules means we don’t always get the best player. I’m sure you already knew that.
Not necessarily true...you analyze the roster and if a better canadian can supplant an American...or vice versa...make it happen/work...dont be a rigid clown forcing a round peg in a square hole...and we seen first hand here a lesser player playing before a better player..where ratio was not an issue...and how that pan out? With Osh at full control...we just have to accept and deal with the clown show with roster...maybe the last 4 yrs failure and the pathetic culmination of it all last yr he has had his eyes opened...or possibly a 5 upside the head from Miller and Walter to smarten up...

@Booch, why Mackonzo, guy has not played in a game or been healthy in about 2.5 years? Doesn't seem worth bringing in constantly injured players.
He could have played last half season..osh chose not to play him..I know for a fact he could have
He's a legit talent who is starter capable and Canadian...why would u let him walk when still in his prime...injuries happen...just do...its not a indication he is damaged beyond any use...Look at Rene as a recent example
16 hours ago, wbbfan said:the value of a canadian who can run with and cover wrs, not to mention has good size/strength and is capable of playing a gap.
The rarity of those skills combined with the passport makes easily worth waiting for. The canadian talent pool in general is shakey. It’s a no risk high reward move to keep him around.
Exactly...just cause guys arent familiar with him seems to have him over looked
Was a legit difference maker as a starter as a rookie...not his fault he got hurt..who hasn't...and not his fault Osh wanted to roster his dud favorites over him last part of yr...he was ready...just like Parker 2 yrs ago was for almost 2 months before he got put back in...and good thing as he saved season that yr
The gang here that just creams over Kramdi...if they got to see Makonzo play his spot will blow both nuts and likely pass out

Any of our own potential free agents that you are hoping KW brings back? Castillo and Holm come to mind to me.
Griffin...Woods..Tui...Neuf...Big Stan....WJ if makes economic and playtime sense...Makonzo if healthy...as apparently he as at end of yr....Cadwallader....after that I hope we restock with new blood...That new receiver we just signed TJ Davis should be the Wheatfall replacement so dont see a dire need for him back....But if he is will be cheap and can always be cut...

If Kramdi makes the tackle, the Lions have time to kick the fg for the win. Obviously doesn’t make him a hero just funny how it worked out.
Yeah feel for both Parker and Bonds. Showed lots of promise and had the tools… honestly I wonder how many burns could be attributed to our pathetic d-line use hanging them out to dry.
Parker was never the same after his initial knee injury...before that he was real good....His injury was reason Holm got on the roster as he was beat out for the job....But thats how sports goes...one door closes on ne guy...allows another to step thru

Muamba got better...can tolerate him a bit...Sanchez I like...not sure why many hate on him...is it the hate of Sanchez the player?
Milton is good when not told by producers to be the antagonist or whatever it is they directing him to be
Kate...lost cause...gets worse as the yrs roll by..she truly thinks its the Kate variety show...she needs to go

Reminds a bit of kenny lawler. Tremendous hands and ability to catch contested balls win 50/50 and pay the physical price to get big possession catches. He tested a bit better than lawler but i don’t see him running open much. Great body control, positional awareness, and the size to go with it. I love the football iq when his qb breaks the pocket and how he comes back to the ball.
How he adapts to our game and if he can get open vs pro dbs are the big questions. Very good prospect for us.Yeah had some Lawler vibes for sure..but bigger more durable body
Looks to be able to have use in the short game as well
Definitely knows how to use frame to box out defenders..and like he is a hand catcher...mitigates being separated from ball in traffic

Any Corhuskers fans?
Jahmal Banks was signed today. Seems like an intriguing signing as he's 6-4 and was suspended by the NFL earlier this year for some reason.
like this...and interesting.....he was available because essentially nobody wanted to have to deal with the 6 game suspension if signed so the way the NFL churns guys over wasnt worth the wait....could be a real good score for us tho
Real good in making tough catches...actual hand catcher, and as a big bodied guy actually eats up a lot of space quickly.....kind of guy ZC would thrive with in regards to some his ducks he tends to throw deep now

What has Streveler shown that screams coach?
he actually runs a really good QB school....and is great with the x's and o's of things....He has got a lot of praise for his work with young QB's....so he would be a pretty good addition to the coaching staff as he rehabs....we gave Thomas a spot and he does pretty much zero in regards to coaching to this point

Do we know how much salary Zach has in bonuses compared to his base salary? Maybe if he's stashed on the IR we can free up cash for more FA?
its all hard money apparently....but yeah if he gets dinged we can escape some of it on the 6 game...that being said...not sure how much was bonus money paid before even a snap this coming yr...so may not even be that big of savings if he goes down

How often do teams that played in the Grey Cup go on major spending sprees in fa the following offseason?
Teams that lose them due to poor rostering...repeatedly....thats who....and good teams always look to add to roster...continually get better...and add pieces where they may already have guys...who aren't as good....again...that's who

This should we pursue.
we should be in his ear now....guy is a baller and will be 2 yrs removed now from his injury...so should be the in back to impact form...27...in his prime....versatile....a no bainer

Honestly Booch has hated Jake Thomas for years, even when he was a serviceable backup player. Just hates guys with limited athletic ability who succeed anyway.
I say give Jake a chance in this role and see how he does with it.
Sorry for disliking suckage...this is the only place in my varied career where less than adequate is tolerated and the norm
Jake was halfway serviceable maybe 5..6 yrs ago but even then he was bottom teir..we had a decade to upgrade the roster spot...chose not to....not how I roll that's fir sure

You might be right, you might be wrong. None of us can know with any certainty right now as to how well JT can do. Anybody saying they know for sure he will fail or succeed is straight up showing bias. Hey, if the DL shows no improvement I'll call for his head. Bombers first....always. What I won't do is not give him a chance.
oh I agree...100 percent.....but my point is...is this the best we could have done??....thats an unequivocal hell no!....Thomas prob still wanted to play but Walter's may have taken that option away from Osh....so Osh offered him this....we shall see tho how it turns out....but if the DL improves it will be from players brought in and not some new crazy moves JT came up with never seen before to catch olines off-guard, and taught them to the guys, or some funky new scheme to revolutionize how dlines play in pro football 😁

Player quality does not equate to coach quality. There is no correlation whatsoever. Quit trying to sell that as a reason to criticize this move. One has nothing to do with the other.
a group of godplayers can make a lousy coach look good, just as much as lousy players can make a good coach look bad....I know you like to defend Osh and challenge me, but in a pivitol yr for us and one where we may need a lot to go right to get us on track again...dumb move....and I sute there were better options...heck I know there were...
3 minutes ago, GCn20 said:Tell that to Patterson. You guys keep suggesting that OSH never moves on from anyone, until he does and then pretend it didn't happen
McManus is the best for sure. We can dream.
Patterson choose to retire...and was known actually during the season it was his last...even further shows that we had a long time to bat names around...and this was best we came up with

Sankey is not that great of a MLB. He is great against the run and sucks against the pass....even worse than T.Jones. Why would we replace T Jones with his more expensive doppelganger.
We had experience in Patterson. He was the worst DL coach we've had maybe ever. You would prefer we kept him?
he also had the worst collection of guys in league to work with too the last few yrs....so hard to say...I do know Patterson is a well respected and experienced coach both sides of the border...But he chose to retire so was out of our hands ....he did quite well in 2021 as the coach when we had talent to utilize.....Grey Cup ring and dominate defence cant be argued there
I agree with SANKEY...More holes in his game than T.Jones and yes as bad as T.Jones is in space he way better than Sankey....so why pay Sankey premium cash when we can get the same for less....Now if we can grab McManus tho....you do that

Problem players? Why cause he aged out and he was asked to do too much at his age? I don't follow your logic here? JT executed the plan he was given to the best of his ability...how is that a problem player? As for Hogan having the best RB in the league, yes that certainly helps but he also helped develop BO into that. BO didn't enter the league as the best. You guys are literally hating on JT himself because the coach tapped him on the shoulder to go in and play and he did. I understand not liking him being on the field but you guys need to tone down the overall Jake hate. He's a 13 year retired veteran now who is taking an entry level coaching job for the only team he ever played for. Why are you inventing narrative about this?
problem position I think he meant....and choosing the worst, least skilled of the bunch to lead the group now as a coach....effort and trying hard to execute even tho you aren't good enough shouldnt equate to being a coach....right off your last snap...maybe perenial league all-star who had exceptional skill...."and tried hard"
But none the less this move isnt gonna kill the season....but is a weak typical move and reeks of an Osh thing and still inability to let guys go and make tough decisions....Especially with Hogan...who was basically a mental health cher leader for BO more than actually showed him anything...No reason we couldnt have moved on....just another example of rewarding failure

You are just hating for the sake of hating. None of what you are saying is anything but worst case scenaro. Tons of players have gone straight from playing into position coaches. You are suggesting he knew nothing of technique in 13 years of professional ball? Baloney. That's completely untrue. Whether or not he can teach what he know is 100% unknown. You cannot with any credibility say he will be a bad coach anymore than anyone can say he will be great at it. None of us can know that. The coaches have identified him as a potentially good coach, and this is something that has been suggested about him for many, many years by many of the players who have played with him, They have stated that JT knows the game and knows the position and was a leader out there. Why have such a hate on for JT? Did he sleep with your woman or something?
not hating....its from my coaching involvement...and experience...if a guy cant teach/show/ the basics...how's he gonna master harder things right out of the gate...and we cant afford another dud hiring basically because we like to take the easy route or maintain fav's
And yeah..I am saying it...where have you seen him use any technique...show hand skills...even a swim/icepick move....I have never...physically I dont think he even able to do it to be honest...so how he gonna demonstrate
And agree with the point nobody can say he will b good...or bad....but why take that chance?...If anyone here thinks that of all the possible coaches in th football universe that this was the best choice...Your bloody idiots...no offence....but you are....and I'm sure by coaches who identified him as good it's more than likely "coach"...and the rest fell in line
Any player who is a pro more than 3 yrs should know the game, and the position....and I would the best option....much like with players...not the same ol same ol.....this aint the best option
And it's got nothing to do about hate...but skill/worthiness/best option

Until I know what the salary cap is, I don't know how anyone can say we're overpaying this guy or that guy. We don't know.
wasnt it like 50k a yr moving up to the next collective bargaining agreement?
Lat yr 400k bump was a precentage of the new rev the league got from its rev sharing part of deal....so that first big bump may not be the norm yr in and yr out...or it could be even greater...Too bad the League isnt a bit more transparent about it...or putting it out there for all to see
Maybe this yr its up another 300....400k in addition to the 50k....so essentially almost a million higher than 2024
