I'm gonna track his average depth of tackle and the depth of his stop vs the depth of anticipated gain. He is a good tackler, but I don't see him jumping in the gap and stopping plays for no gain.
In each game, we see more reps for him and Kornelson, with no reason for this to transpire whatsoever. If I was lawson or adams I'd be waiting on my chance to hit FA.
and who would blame them...and I can totally see it

a few need to go...yup...others need to be in the back seat to fresh talent and become thatdepth...which would make us a way better tem all around...we have a lot of the pieces...we just using the wrong ones...or in wrong order...

Absolutely. Wilson coming back from the NFL would help immensely, and some other tweaks here and there. It's not a lost cause by any stretch of the imagination. Vaughters is not playing very well, and of course our interior DL is weak. We need help there. Not sure we have the personnel right now. Time for an airlift.
Not gonna pin any of it on the Safety.
pretty sure that if we dressed...and used legitimate inside players...Adams and Woods....or who ever and also incorporated another end...and played those said inside guys and rotational end all of Jakes reps....mening hit the PR or injured....would make a world of difference to Vaughters and WJ...Teams can easily neutralize them as it is, plus they bagged out throughout the game.
They turned WJ loose in Grey Cup and we see what he can do....I'm almost certain they do not want him playing in a let loose fashion but more so to keep the qb in pocket and beat our secondary, thibking we have the dawgs in th middle to collapse and rush the passer...and we dont when we use certain sets
You can see when its Lawson or Adams on the nose...or them together the pressure is breaking through and the results are night and day
Then we go sets with Just Jake...Jake and Korn....and we get eaten alive...even when its Jake and Adams....Adams gets penetration still a lot of the time but .....even when double teamed, but Jake just gets stood up in place neutralized....pushed back...or spun around or to the side as the play goes by and just negates anything the other DT just did
His sole skill is a straight push on some reps but rarely gets off his block, and when he does has nothing left to finish a play...or chase anyone down...let alone come back from behind l.o.s to make a tackle....how many times tho we see Adams...and Woods last yr do that tho....alot
We either need to change or scheme a bit as we dont have....let me rephrase, choose not to use the guys up fron to make it work....or stick with the scheme and roster and PLAY the guys who can make it work...easily fixable if one puts his bias aside
1 minute ago, HardCoreBlue said:So true, that has not changed.
Not controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball = be ready to take the L.
One line of scrimmage controlled = we have ourselves a game.
Both lines of scrimmage controlled = high fives all around.
and further to that....works from a strength from inside out....strong center...strong/dominant nose and multi tech DT....You cooking with fire...we got the wort center in the league, and the worst "collective" group of interior dlineman in the lague bar none....Adams would start anywhere..as would Woods...thats why I said collective..Schmeck..Thomas...Korn...I have a hard time seeing any one of them cracking a roster...let alone getting reps they do here
And then some wonder why our dline seems to get no push/pressure and at times our oline looks like rodeo barrels

yea...the bright side is that the playoffs don't start at the beginning of July. Lot can change from now to then if we don't show improvement.
thing is....for last I dont know how many yrs...we show no inclination to change.....Osh says we know the issue and will fix it...backups get zero reps, let alone a chance to grab a spot (even tho they apparently are all starter quality...hence why they here) and we either limp into playoffs with banged up guys....or have nobody after the main 12...13 starters and get beaten down and nobody gets pulled...cause well nobody has earned trust due to lack of play time...and round and round we go....this is loking like round 4....It's still early I agree....but i have zero faith whatsoever that any significant move or coaching shift will occur....none?

scheme?...or roster???...workd quite well for most part last yr....me thinks players....especially with many holdovers who wouldnt make a starting unit anywhere else...a couple wouldnt make game day roster

yep. Those are classic easy run and catch plays. Fajardo was propped up on crossing routes and seam busters for years.
when you have MLB with no coverage skills and quite honestly...doesnt really appear to even know where to drop....that stuff happens....and then you have Kramdi in chase mode as he has no cover skills...recipe for a good gouging and sustained drives
-
3 minutes ago, wbbfan said:
The real worry with the secondary is that we are completely lost on crossing routes unless they run at Nichols. We haven't been able to pick up crossers with the wil, mac, Parker, Kramdi, or Holm.
as much as people here like to pump Kramdi ...mainly cause Osh does...so the media follows suit...he's horrible in coverage, and isn not a good tackler at all....if he isnt crashing down in the box or in a run blitz...his one real strength...he is real ...real bad in coverage...and has difficulty running with guys ...hence the getting gouged on the crossers....He's the very definition of a situational guy....and is not a true every down SAM....Not by a long shot and we pay him like he's one of the leagues elite to boot....but like a few other players...mainly certain Canadians , Osh has a real boner for him
Slip Griffin in there....let Allen either earn his chops in Bridges spot, or at safety. and slide Parker into half or corner...or when Kelly back move Kelly to safety ...Griffin stay at sam and figure out that Corner...All Allen did in TC and in pre-season was make plays...time to change it up
Also have J.Jones in the middle.....just that tweek alone and not even expunging Jake would give us way more athleticism through the middle and the flats....Better tackling and a tighter back end
Wilson is fine but he can only do so much and teams are not necessarily targeting his area anyway...it's blatant targeting on ground where Jake lines up...and through the flats in shallow area outside box where Kramdi and jones roam....favoring Bridges/Holm side

Outside of run blocking (and Calgary is in the bottom third of run defense), I thought line play was terrible.
Neufeld getting completely turned around .. Randolph giving up that late sack that nearly got Streveler killed .. Kolo being dog walked .. is not emblematic of good line play. Even Bryant's play is falling off but that may be more a sign that the unit as a whole struggling vs. Big Stan in isolation (though I do think he's no longer the premier tackle he used to be).
That said ..
I do think Vanterpool / Wallace are upgrades over Dobson (who I never thought lived up to expectation). Randolph over Lofton feels like addition by subtraction (though Randolph hasn't exactly lit the world on fire).
Peterson on that sack effed up too...he needs to recognize the pressure and at least chip...he just drifted off into nowhere land as an outlet pass...BO woud have cleaned that up...rookie error....and good thing that was Strev who can take a hit...as I think the CGY player actually got the worse for wear...if that was ZC...couldnt been curtains for him for a while

Been nothing wrong with Kyrie Wilson's game...the issue there is dependability...when healthy he one of the top WIL's in the league and he still has great lateral range and tackling ability...and plays in control
T.Jones at times has zero control and just blows himself right out of the play....doesn't have the lateral range....and can't play in space worth ****
Wood's is actually hurt so it's not a conspiracy and he would help, but at who's expense?...nobody's if we just stick with Wallace or Eli at guard...Vpool being in isnt some big net gain for us by any stretch
We really need to get Person and Bailey on the roster for if for anything to see what they bring to the dline....it will be more than what Korn/Thomas bring...and both those guys can play on cover teams for kicks...that alone is a net positive and would give WJ nad Vaughters much need rest so they can actually play unleashed every snap, and we don't waste Adams on the edge....
With WJ, Vaughters...Person, Bailey, Adams, Woods and Lawson, and the use of 6 Canadian on offence (3 oline, BO, 2 Receivers) you only need 1 Canadian on the field at any given time...so take your pick of Lawson and or Kramdi....and you can sub either one out at anytime for a Griffin....DL guy...Ayers (tho pretty sure he now hurt)
No need for both of Thomas and Korn/Schmeck....either really...When Kelly back dress him and Cobb...Or Kelly and Makonzo if he ever gets out of the tub...
Tell me JY would prefer Thomas/Korn/Lawson/Adams/WJ/VAUGHT/Ayers over WJ/VAUGHT/Person/Bailey/Adams/Woods/Lawson

Was a classic Jake tackle, reaches out and hangs on as the back is running past him.
And I said during the game, T. Jones makes a lot of tackles but not a lot of plays.
tackles after yards were gained...lotsa whiffs too....and in coverage is a lost cause...but he inked a 2 yr deal pre-TC so we all knew he was penciled in as starter...Jake too....they need not even have attended camp really....they were safe
J.Jones...the rookie Woodbey..Ayers....all would offer a more well rounded game...and be more versatile too...

1. DL. Hot garbage. Jake with 2 tackles is the same as Willie and Devin adams and 1 more than Vaughters.
2. DBs. They were owned in the first half.
3. Zach. The pick 6’s are game changers.
4. People who put coaches on here when it’s obvious the coaches were not happy with the effort. Effort is on the players not the coaches.
in football...when players seem to perform well....and when they seem to perform like crap....it's generally on team prep and coaching/scheme leading into the game....what may look like a bone head play could be the player coached to do this...opposed to that
Players cant go rogue or they will not see the feild.....that being said sure some times exceptional effort/talent can supersede poor prep/coaching...we saw a lot of that in 2019 thru to mid 2022....but are talent and youth has waned...a lot ans we have a HC who insists to look back...and not forward...and definitely not at whats going on currently
Also....if guys are dogging it...or just not getting it done...thats when th HC needs to show he has a pair of stones in his saggy scrout and pull a player(s) and not worry about ruffling a vet's...or a fav's feathers or ego...plain and simple

I still cant get over the fact when it was 99.9999% obvious the game was done by end of 3rd quarter, why wasnt Strev in getting valuable work....Why keep running your physical RB with a recent shoulder injury in a game that was not gonna be won...risking a set back?...he got enough work to knock any rust off
Why didnt we go for 2 on our TD....If only for the sake of practicing it for when we may need it under live fire...we rarely go for it ever and when we do the odd time....its not generally a success....these are the games you should practice these things
Same with the onside kick....we get it...great...we dont...big deal cause it wouldn't have mattered anyway so may as well get in the practice
Just lame brain dumb coaching calls...

I dont recall seeing Jake make a tackle...maybe the play ran into him and he got credit....and Jone's tackles generally are of the Awe type....
We need a infusion of youth and hunger on defence.....and athleticism up front based on this scheme we running..

I think Walter's needs to step up and be the decider on issues of who we sign/retain/...even play...It is obvious theygive Osh wayyyy too much say
and I truly don't think he is a good evaluator of talent/usefulness....he values and likes certain things way too much over true talent

Schoen has broken over 1000 yards in both seasons he was healthy and played 18 and 16 games. Lawler has 25 TDs in 63 games. Schoen has 27 in 38 or so games. They kept the right guy. Lawler ****** off. I’m sure they offered him a fair contract. I mean the guy hasn’t broken 1000 yards in 4 seasons now. Is almost 300k the going rate for 900 yards? besides aren’t ppl going off on how Zach and his arm is washed. What’s it matter if lawler is here and Zach throwing 60 yard passes 50 yards. Isn’t the problem the QBs inability to actually throw a deep ball ?? You could have 5 Jerry rices or milt stegalls in their primes and im not sure it would matter if the qb was throwing into triple coverage half the time.
but he also made a lot of huge catches for us in big games....was a reason we got to some of the big games and was a reason we won some of the biggest games too...would have been well worth it for a grey cup yr....dont have to sign himlong term...one and done...or re-up if he balls out....he also garners a lot of attention opening it up for others

2 hours ago, 3rdand1.5 said:My two cents
Firstly Cal. wanted it more, they hit harder, ran faster and made the tough plays.....we whiffed, seemed sluggish and made mistakes....
Zach had a poor game, but our offence wasn't as bad as it seemed IMO, the line did decent and Brady was doing well...we just got down so quick we went to well....I'm not sure what game plan we went to, but pre-game Flo said there goal was to make us sit back and throw.....and well the executed exactly that...yet some how it feels like we almost let them
Defence...ouch, Vaj could smoke a cigar and casually sip an old fashion before he needed to throw the ball....and on the odd play he couldn't he simple moved a little, did a roll and then resumed sipping his drink while looking for receiver. VAJ can be a very good QB, but I think any QB, Crum, Dolegala, Masoli, Arbuckle, hell Alex Moran from BMS could have beaten us last night......
Offence has some goat horns no doubt but defence definitely has the bigger goat horns in this one IMO
coaching....kills us at times...

They were pretty garbage too I agree, just things like 2 pick 6’s, that holding penalty on their opening drive, Brady slipping and falling twice, the dropped passes and the missed TD throw, aren’t going to happen every game.
I think some the issues with Schoen are mental and it's related to injury and he a bit gun shy to get wjhalloped...and thats normal coming off a reconstruct...thats why banking on hm as Schoen pre-injury was a dumb decision....What we Paid Mitchell...One of Sterns or White and Thomas would have been more than enough to keep Lawler...and we didnt spend to cap anyway....made no big splash...and even if went over a bit...big fricken deal
12 hours ago, JuranBoldenRules said:Yeah we don't really have the receivers to beat zone in any way. Not much YAC. Demski and Schoen are busted up from old/ongoing injuries.
I've liked Wheatfall on some screen/hitch looks into the field.
Our QB doesn't really run quick stuff. But IMO at the moment we have one receiver out there who is a consistent battler for 50/50 balls, and that's Wheatfall.
Just a mess the past couple seasons trying to fill a couple receiver slots to build an offense.
reason why also that Strev should be getting reps whenever possible...he can run the quick stuff...and is a threat to run from it too....tempo a team to death at times
11 hours ago, JohnnyAbonny said:That’s why having Sterns on the roster just baffles me. We don’t use quick crossers or stuff like that. We need taller downfield threats with long arms.
he is essentially pointless...and even if we did use that ore...he's not a twitchy explosive guy who can take er to the house from anywhere....if we think thats the best we can do...we need new scouts///etc
11 hours ago, 17to85 said:honestly I am finished with Collaros. He has always liked to force tight windows but he doesn't have the arm to do it anymore and he gave the stamps 14 points trying to force things.
He's just old and hasn't shown the ability to change his game. He's not the future and I'm not sure he's the present outside of the occasional game like last week. All this for a high price tag. Time to cut bait on some of the old players. 2019 was a long time ago.

Lawler chased dollars on a bad team for a second time, after royally screwing up here and not living up to expectations or pay here.
That said, we’d be much better off having over paid Lawler and let schoen walk. Maybe schoen isn’t 100% and have all the rust off. I hope he can get back to where he was. Right now he looks like post injuries Robert Gordon. And lawler is still a top end no1 wr. Roadhouse isn’t here right now, I hope he makes it back at some point.
banking on a receiver of all positions coming off ACL is the stupidest place to do that...you can see already he's seeing ghosts and doesn't have that explosiveness after catch....and now that incident coming down from a suicide throw from ZC ...which is what I alluded to could happen way back in camp...thats also in his head now and it will be worse for him mentally...if he back after break, but I pretty sure he wont be...bring him back sure...but as a complimentary peice as he finds his way again....just dumb
And as for suicide passes...ZC almost got Wheatfall killed last week...and that miss in the endzone last night...was an inexcusable miss for a 600k a yr QB but good thing he missed bad cause if he would have went up and got it...likely would have been crumpled again....he's lucky Clercius is a beast as he's set him up multiple times too for utter punishment

He’s thrown more pick 6s going back to last year than I’ve ever seen from a pro qb. Truly, it must be a record.
How many attempts 15 yards or deeper though? We just kept taking the easy under and playing into Calgary’s D. We didn’t threaten to stretch the field in any direction.
They should cancel leave for the bye week. Maybe you can’t put pads on em and make them hit, but you can make em run all practice. Send em back to boot camp.
That effort is bad but the attitude about it is the real problem.obviously the attitude and the casual oh well demeanor permeates from above?....that was pathetic and embarrassing last night save for about a handful of players

Osh...poor roster construct...not going for that 3rd and goal in 1st...keeping ZC and BO in as long as he did..not going for 2 and onside kick if not for anything to practice it..ho hum attitude on sideline..team obviously unprepared or poorly coached up...basically same ol song and dance
Jake...korn..kolo..a bit lesser extent Jones and Kramdi..is that best we can do? and if so better start bringing in some bodies
Kudos to Adams..Clercius..Wilson..Nichols...BO..Holm...they brought it all game
That's about it...but man o man just getting the status quo same ol vibes...again
Pretty sure Ayers got hurt...Not feeling good bout Schoen...as been in those shoes and didn't like what I saw...did Korn get more than 3..4 snaps and was it just at end in garbage? So why even dress him
If Ayers is out is this the good Jones chance to get on roster? We definitely need some energy and youth/athleticism on the dline..Will we get Bailey and Person on roster if for anything to see what they bring/add...as the current combo save for 4 guys isn't cutting it and 2 of those 4 require the complimentary rotation pieces to bring their game up
