My opinion on building a roster: start with your best Canadians in starting positions and fill in everything else around them ensuring that you have sufficient depth at all positions to account for rotations and the event of in game injuries.
agreed...assess the roster, put it to task in TC and pick the 12 best on each side within ratio....then evaluate of you have sufficient coverage for injury at a Canadian position, and or ability to fill with an American back-up/DA and again have capable Canadian back-up that can slide in elsewhere, and not degrading the on field product in game to a pityful level
We have seemed to have gotten away from that and filled roster with guys not capable of developing or stepping in...and were to rigid in where we played Canadians and have kept status quo and let a better American go, and played a lesser Canadian where we could have Americanized the spot and upgraded substantially and played a Canadian at a different spot and prob seen minimal to no drop off....and that assbackward way we did things eroded our roster, and has affected how we draft and recruit, tho it seems to maybe have switched a bit this yr....maybe....have to see how the first 3rd of season plays out

Yeah we do, and he still leads the league in yards per carry every freaking year(including last season). He also talks about how Rankin and Mills are so powerful and love contact, meanwhile Oliveira leads the league every year in yards after contact, and game in game out runs over guys like they owe him money. I love all these CFL.ca rankings where we continually get disrespected. Keep it up assclowns. Cant wait to punch the league in their collective cocky mouths.
putz...I think he over rated as well...decent but not the start many make him out to be
BO gets the ball a lot...yeah cause he gets it done...and like you said...best avg yards per carry...yards after contact..etc....You have a workhorse bell-cow back...you use him. The others don't get used as much because.....well they don't get it done as consistently...it's as simple as that

with our Canadian linebackers...Kelly...possibly Stuart for more ST work than anything we don't really need to DI a LB per say, and we can also roster 2 import DT's...we have before and save for the last 2 yrs of roster stupidity should easily be able to....If Bailey and Gatkouth show they can be used in rotation then we may just roster 1 import end, seeing as Ceresna can play off edge. But I'd like to see us dress just Ceresna as no import DT showed anything, and have both Jenkins and Dixon on roster, as Dixon can easily slide inside, and also a WJ..Dixon..Ceresna..Jenkins front in some sets would be a real headache for opposing offences...And a 4 man base of Lawson and Ceresna in the middle and any 2 of WJ/Jenkins/Dixon/Bailey/Gatkouth is light yrs ahead of anything we put out there the last 2 yrs...and would easily look 2019'ish
There not gonna be room for all of Wilson/Jones/Woodbey/Ayers on active roster. Only way we can do that is if we go with the belief that one of Ball..Kelly...Stuart or Hallett is trusted at safety and an injury to a DB we slide Kramdi to SAM and shift Griffin to DB as he can play all the spots...and well.
The one guy who may be the odd man out and 1 gamed all yr is Allen unless he grabs the corner job

Not impressed based on 1 game.
AND its exactly what I seen in camp...plus not uber athletic either...hard pass...I wouldnt even PR him as he doesnt serve any use as a returner option...or would be worth spit on cover's for ST...

I'm thinking there is no realistic way we use Shay at SAM. My thinking is that Younger didn't want to show too much but they wanted to see if and where Shay could go as a 4th Lber in a 3-4 defence. They blitzed him, they used him in coverage out of the SAM. My thinking tho, is that IF Shay goes in on a 3-4 it would be because he brings some versatility.
yeah....possibly to just see what he could do there in a pinch.....He is versatile and demon on teams...a demon on teams who can actually play...Much like Smith

What'd I give to be in the film room and hear what the coaches are saying. Singer obviously stuck out. But what happened to make those plays work? Who did something a little extra if anything? etc etc.
I know he's likely done...but I really liked Reese's burst. That guy could get after it, but he just needs to control himself a bit more.
Singer can separate and make moves and cut at speed...and has burst..can caught all his balls....Fredrickson is horribly awkward footwork wise...has poor leaping ability...hence no real burst...slow for a WR....was totally lost on his fade route...dropped an easy ball...did he muff another?
Corcoran is a shorter Canadian version of Fredriskson...Made a nice grab but he isn't really a viable starter option.
I dont think Reese will be canned from that...rookie enthusiasm...U need to see if he is able to learn from that...Why cut a guy with obvious talent over that in first game...ever...If that was case Jamal Westerman would never had a career here as he was good for usually 1 or 2 dumb...easily avoidable penalties a game

I get the feeling they want to give reps to both Smith and Shay situationally.
I was shocked he was let go...but also know he was injured early...practiced through it for a good week and was still impressive...He actually reminded me of Tony Norman...and if we could add a Tony Normal clone to go with WJ..Ceresna...Lawson..Dixon...Bailey..and Jenkins while Gatkoith is allowed to develop and not be overly relied on...we cookin up front
1 hour ago, wbbfan said: Another interesting guy is Jakobe clinton. He had that sick pick 6, and didn't do a lot else. But he's another very athletic tweener lber with great playmaking instincts. He might well be worth keeping around as a PR developmental piece. Hes listed much smaller than college here, but he had lots of success pass rushing and blitzing in college as well.
Surprised we didn't see more of Ayers on D in game 1, wonder if hes knicked up.
he looks to be the ideal PR import lb as he fits the mold of a lot of what we utilze

on a different note...based on the big gallop last yr...and the run on Saturday where it looked like he was shot out of a cannon...Calling it now with that size and crazy speed...and more usage...I bet MCI rips off one of...if not the longest run from scrimmage from a RB in league this yr...
-
I think Perkins is the best option at QB2 for now...and if he is hope he gets real reps throughout the season too, as it will just get him acclimated that much quicker....but for his minimal time here...and working behind and with garbage for most part looked pretty comfortable
I not as anti arm strength against hi as some...he has more than an adequate arm, and you dont need a howitzer to succeed, you need touch...be able to throw a guy open and place a ball....if he can master that, to go with his ability on the ground and I can see him being lethal with that up here we should be just fine as TE learns and develops
And with this maybe being ZC swan song a more developed and capable Perkins who could possibly shows he is a legit starter rolling into 2027 camp allows us to not force feed TE into the fracass if he not really quite ready yet...and destroying his confidence...dude is young and licked up for 3 yrs...no need to rush it...let him grab it legitimately

1 minute ago, wbbfan said: Thats right holm as well, forgot about him.
Oh O white could be one as well.
We know now (I hope) the importance of a viable back up returner. Boy we suffered for a bit after grant left.
and the ability to have Vaval and Singer back together on kickoffs and could be a pick your poison scenario too if they try to kick away from one..or other

1 minute ago, wbbfan said: Start Smith and using the naturalized american spots. Kyrie, WJ, Moxey, Ceresna, and Nichols all qualify on D for naturalized spots.
That way we save a DI at lber, dl or db.
Idk if punters have value in this league at all any more. I doubt it. I do expect 1 of each on the PR to start, I think you're right there.
I think the only none vet imp WR who would be worth playing so far is Singer. Can we start 3 canadian wrs? Crippling talent pool for sake of ratio has never stopped us before.
Holm Boi qualifies too...Smith starting at WIL would not hurt us in the least and he would only just get better and better....Thats how you develop...game reps at game speed, and he already shown he has that down...no he needs to just stack reps
Griffin at SAM too is gonna really make us a tough defence.....and Woodbey is just gonna keep getting better and better...which is such a bonus cause he already is really good
Yeah....of we start 3 ot has to be Demski...and Clercius and Neild in the slot...Clercius in his reps at slot showed he is more than capable and offers us a lot there...getting him rolling in space with the ball he is gonna be punishing to DB's and later in a game they gonna be nicely tenderized...If we start 3 and the 3rd is Corcoran outside...somebody needs to be shot
But ideally 3 imports and 2 Canadians with Clercius/Demski/Neild as your main 3 is our best lineup...Songer right now has to be the front runner, and his return ability has to be an ace in hole for him too....Dude looks like a return TD on the making...Looks better than Vaval did early on camp last yr, and look what he did

5 minutes ago, Blue In BC said: How would we get Fletcher on the AR? He may be better than Kornelson but it's a ratio issue on how to do that. The Canadians that can rotate on defence doesn't change that dilemma.
I predicted both rookie kickers would go to the PR to start the season. Does Sheehan have trade value? I don't see 2 punters on the roster at the same time. We'll see who does most of the punting in the next game.
I agree we CAN'T have 3 Canadian receivers starting. Not much to choose for a 3rd import except for Singer who played well. I didn't get the impression we're planing on a 3 import OL so that frees up making Singer a starting receiver.
When has making sense played into some of O'Shea's choices. Injured previously or not, it's a short practice week and final cuts this weekend.
pretty easy to roster 2 import interior guys....pretty much we always do that...and with the talent we have in Canadians outside of a DT we can rotate in, we dont need to actually have an extra Canadian DT on roster...especially one who gets owned over and over...Could care less how much he hustles in practice and tries hard

21 hours ago, wbbfan said: Elgersma, yeah pretty much. We will see how game 2 goes but I think he will essentially be qb3. If perkins’s runs short yardage maybe they’ll roster elgersma as 2 but functionally use perkins as 2.
I’m not worried about eli yet, he barely played C. Ellsbury played most of the snaps. But his performance sure does lead to us being thin at C.
Yeah TUI hardly repped at Center....I not concerned there...I think they wanTed to see ELSBURY....Hopefully they saw enough....not good
to touch on the Shay comments here...Shay shouldn't be at SAM...he's a MLB thru and thru....doing him a diservice forcing him there.
...he's really good on teams and his roster spot is safe....I hope this yr we realize that we can backfill the roster with the depth/ST guys but actually use the guys who canin a pich tale a few reps, and have the potential to push for reps, as opposed to use these ST only guys with zippity dodah for upside....High upside guys can play ST too...a lot of times better than the ST only sluggos...
-
Weird. But in my opinion Fletcher looked legit, moved real well and could be a real good inside and outside guy...he just looked polished and really well coached previously
He was knicked but battled thru it for a good week, so maybe they wanted to free up roster space to see some guys and were gonna bring him back when he was a bit more healthy...And prob a good thing cause other than Lawson, what we saw on the inside of the DL was a whole lotta crap and none of the guys should be getting any reps of any significance this next game...let alone make the roster...I fear tho Korn gonna make it cause he Canadian, But with the way Smith played...again...Kramdi here...Gatkouth who did some real nice work for first game, and Bailey who also is a gem of an end, we dont need a crappy Canadian DT to sub out with to meet the 2 Canadians on the field on defence, or if injury...Especially if we use the Nationalized American as well.
We have so much Canadian rotation available on defence who can really ball out...we dont need to waste a spot on Korn...christ he been already cut what...like 3 times?...
And gotta say again..Jaylen Smith needs to play...a ton...as he gonna just get even better. Should have been already last yr
I'd be shocked as well if the oline isnt Bryant...Wallace..Eli..Neuf and Broxton...Elsbury didnt impress and as an Import you need to be exceptional at worst to justify that ratio move. And he wasnt...not even close...And man not sure what with Vpool but he looked lost and awful too...He better crank it up or could see him gone.
Back to ratio....we cant run 3 Canadian WR as we dont have the talent, and ZC needs weapons....Sure Corcoran made a nice catch....but he isnt a top level Candian let alone starter.
Fredrickson shouldn't get any work next game...and should be cut really....dud...nobody outside of White..Clercius and Singer from last game should feel safe...I do wanna see TJ Davis featured a bit more next game, as there is something there in my opinion but not gonna see it targeted 1 or 2 times, and playing with and against a bunch of guys who aint gonna be around in a week
Another note...That other Aussie can boom the ball....Does Osh have the onions to part ways with one of his pets/..of he dials it up again next week...and shows some nice positional kicking....I'd keep a giy who can kick you outta trouble like that

2026 Bombers Season
in Blue Bomber Discussion
as per ratio...Its my understanding that 21 Canadians are required on game day....One of which is the nationalized American, so technically whatever American you use, be it WJ...T.White..or whever....doesn't actually have their spot count on roster as one of the 19 American spots ....correct?
