I was re watching parts of the Bomber game against Montreal on YouTube yesterday and I started looking at some highlights of some old games. There was a ton from 2009-2013 Obviously we want to forget about an era where there wasn't much winning but i just wanted to have a thread to reflect on some former players you remember fondly or thought deserved some recognition.. here's a couple that stood out anyways.. Fred Reid: Man was he ever good on some not so good football teams. I watched the video against BC where he set the Bomber rushing record and just tore up that Lions defense.. I believe he even led the league in rushing one year, maybe even two. He was so quick and shifty, if he had a longer playing career he would have been remembered as fondly as Blink Terrence Edwards: yes everyone remembers him, but like Milt he put up some great numbers with some really bad quarterback play. He wasn't overly fast but I can't recall a reciever that was so slow but could always get open so easily and turn it into a 60 yard touchdown catch. Jovon johnson: again everyone remembers JJ but I want to give him some recognition another way.. He was a GREAT return man there was one video of him running all the way to the opposite side of the field, just to run all the way back to the other and then he found his gap and took it to the house. He was always a threat to score or at the very least give us good field position. Steven Jyles: I watched the video against BC where Alex Brink got the start and he couldn't do a single thing on offense ( good one Lapo) and I believe Jyles engineered a 21 point fourth quarter come back and we won in double over time with Beasley returning it for a pick six. Jyles had a great arm, and was so mobile and athletic.. I'm surprised he never put it all together.

Should be another tight game. I honestly have no idea who wins this one.

Odds and Sods - Montreal Als at Blue Bombers
Arnold_Palmer replied to do or die's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Nothing like an aging population who hasn't seen much winning in 25 years.. Man were on the right track it's there! We were 11-7 last season and could/should be 4-1 to start the season but people are acting like we were 3-15 last season and winless to start the season. I get the frustration but if you can't see the good things unfolding infront of you.. I don't know what to tell you. Our club could play and win against anybody. -
Lost in it all is that Matt Nichols is now 2nd in the league in touchdown passes with 10 just under Trevor Harris who leads the league with 12, but has played 6 games compared to Nichols 5. Not bad for a scrub

Utter and complete trash. According to CFL.ca Calgary got just over 24 thousand in attendance after getting 30 thousand their first game. Fans aren't interested time to fire Dickenson he calls Winnipeg an intelligent sports town but quotes a guy that says O'shea smirks to much and we need someone serious like Jones here (6-16 record in Saskachewan btw) just a terrible terrible article.

41-40, (42-43), 33-25, 43-40 What's going on?

it was an embellish but after the phantom call the Bomber defense had on Durant when he was hit simontanioualy of releasing the ball and we still got called, and the weird no call when Nichols got face masked on the play and the command centre didn't over turn it, I think we were due for one. -

The problem in the first half was 8/12 passing. The defense in the bend and break defense tends to allow a lot of long drives that keeps our offense off the field. -
Thorpe and Lankford stepped up in the second half. They had some nice YAC. Especially in the fourth quarter.

Defense is the problem but I keep on hearing an offense that keeps on scoring 40 points without turning the ball over get the blunt of the blame.. -
HM: Jake Thomas was all over Durant all night. He's gone from average rotational player to solid Canadian starter.
-
Why is the defense gassed but the offense isn't? Excuses excuses. Point is we put 2 TD's on the board when it meant the most.
-
He won the game, no turn overs, almost 400 yards against the best defense in the league.. But you're totally right.
-
Time to stop talking **** about Nichols. Defense let us down time after time. 356 yards 2 TD's and some great poise late.
-
The command centre continues to consistently get it wrong. I mean it's a hand to the face mask that by definition should be roughing the passer. Sigh the command centre has been awful this season.
-
What about a badly struggling defense?
-
I think we'll have to be honest with each other and admit our defense isn't very good this year. The bend and break isn't working.
-
Well absolutely. The stats suggest he's by far the best kick returner in CFL history and we know that's simply just not true. How ever he's definitely done more then a decent job out there, and the numbers back that up.
-
**Ryan Lankford leads the CFL in kickoff returns with 550 yards in just 4 games, on pace for a season total of 2,475 which would easily surpass the CFL record set by Ian Smart of BC in 2008 of 1,805 yards. The Blue Bombers record is 1,695 by Eric Blount set in 1998. Lankford is #2 in combined yards at 778, a pace that would take him over 3,500 yards. So much for the narrative of Lankford being a terrible returner..

Nichols in 4 games. 8 TD's 4 INT's Durant in 5 games. 6 TD's 6 INT's
-
How is Durant a better QB then Nichols at this point in their career? Don't get me wrong I love me some DD but he's lost a step or two from his prime playing days. I'd take Nichols any day.

What would it take to fire a coordinator?
Arnold_Palmer replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Won't happen in the middle of the season. The problem is who replaces them? You need time to implement a scheme, and get the players comfortable with it. It's funny over the the Rider board I constantly hear posters over there calling Lapo and Hall two of the best cordinators in the league. -
Looking Ahead: Montreal Vs Winnipeg
Arnold_Palmer replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Can't take Montreal lightly. They did beat Calgary after all. If we play the way we have in the 1st, and 4th all season we probably won't come out of this game with a W -

Sean Paul? wasn't he big once for like a few months in 2004.. I doubt anyone who wasn't attending the game would go just to see Sean Paul.
