Stats don't tell the whole story obviously but an interesting one is that we were 9th in the league, dead last in terms of points against.

On O we averaged about 22.05 points for per game, on D we average about 26.7 points against per game.

There were 4 teams who scored 400 or more points for, Calgary, Edmonton,Toronto and Hamilton <-- in that order too of points scored per game

The rest goes SASK WPG BC MTL OTT

Sask had 399 points scored, Wpg 397 points scored.

Our O was kind of middle of the pack really, Our D tho was dead last.

My problem with MB is multifold. His track record as an OC is well below average. He didn't excel as OC in Mtl in 2007 the year Calvillo was pummelled into the ground and left early, injured, to be with his wife who had cancer. That year, with Bellefeuille as OC, Calvillo was sacked 50 times in 13 starts. The Als gave up 68 sacks that year, which was a CFL high. That was with a decent O-line. Now that Bellefueille's here, same thing - Bombers gave up more than 70 sacks last year, most ever for the Bombers. Calvillo and Willy are similar pocket passers and MB seems incapable of designing an offence that will offer protection for that style of QB, or take the pressure off the QB with appropriate play calling. The offensive stats - the ones that count, were abysmal for Winnipeg last year - again. For example, Winnipeg's touchdown percentage was 2.6%, second worst in the league ahead of only Ottawa. We were 7th in most offensive stats - among the lowest in terms of touchdowns scored, total yards per game and most 2 + outs. We seem not to have a screen pass, draw play or any other play designed to relieve heat on the QB. This isn't rocket science. Bellefueille also made some questionable personnel decisions, same things he took heat for in Montreal. Why did he stick with an ineffective Grigsby so long at the tailback position when Cotton, who showed better at TC, was waiting in the wings and when he did come in proved to be more capable? To me, that's judgment, or lack thereof, or maybe he just relying on the advice of RB coach Buck Pierce - which, if so, is another story in itself. I'm also astounded that Bellefueille allowed Drew Willy to get pounded as much as he did, which does nothing for a rookie QB's confidence. Willy had happy feet for a few games in the last 1/3 of the season and I blame Bellefueille for that, too. I could go on and on ... Bottom line: Miller Walters OShea don't know much about offence - so they are completely delegating | deferring to Bellefueille, at their own peril.

Willy had a bad game.  Doesn't change the point of my other^ post, we can't know if he had receivers "open" or not because we don't know what he was looking at before or during the play.  Unless you have access to the coaches film it's a complete assumption to make watching on TV or from the stands.

BC has a great secondary, that's part of it.  Our scheme with Willy doesn't move him around a lot.  Hard for us to say if that is Bellefeuille's fault, Willy's fault (in terms of him preferring to take a straight drop) or a combination.  Our scheme for Brohm vs Calgary moved him and the pocket around a lot, even though he isn't a "mobile" QB.  Did he "make plays?"  I wouldn't say he did anything special.  He was steady, but it was pretty obvious that the game was simplified for him with the rollouts which essentially shorten the field, make throws and reads a little quicker.  Marve was just blind luck IMO, and even at that he completed 50% of his passes while continually putting the ball in harms way.

Why they don't do for Willy what they did for Brohm (it sure worked) is my question.

Not hat's not it at all, it's because people are in love with stats, if his completioon percentage was crap and his yardage lower they'd hate him. But because he has artificially high completion percentage( from not throwing the ball away when he needs to), and his yardage is high from continually thorwing bombs more than he should be. THey love him! Even though the majority of the time he makes the stupidest decision ever, alas Saskatchew games or the game tonight! Even less then mediocre QB play and we win tonight. Seriously, I understand the need to defend our QB after how hard we've been on QBS over the years, but this year Willy has had a million chances to prove his worth and he' s progressively getting worse, and not only worse, but progressively getting more idiotic with his decision making. Several games this year, in a city with in a less sensitive and touchy situation(scare to hurt the starting QBS feelings), Willy would of or should have  been benched.

I have been thinking for a long time, since maybe game two of the season that the offense was going to be the problem with the season for this team. A couple of reasons for this: 1. we have a o coordinator who has not been very successful during his time in the CFL and 2. we have Buck Pierce as a position coach and one that he is not well versed in. I also made the assumption that Pierce would likely be dealing with the QBs more than the running backs. The combination of these facts seemed to show me a few things which seem to have evolved during the season: 1. our offense regardless of what we think of the o line has become predictable with the exception of the last half of the last game, 2. our QB Willy in particular has developed happy feet and has also developed a tendency to hold the ball far too long (before you blame the o line for not giving him more time ask yourself how many times you have seen receivers standing still making a catch rather than running to a spot where the ball is being thrown and also consider how Brohm and Mavre were able to pick targets quicker than Willy even though Marve moved the pocket much better) and 3. our running game was/is next to nil (I too like Cotton but one game does not make him a good running back) and that can be related directly back to those in control of the offense. Reminds me a little of Tim Burke - great defensive mine who left the offense to others (one the same name as the incumbent) and what did that get him?

With all that said I personally like Pierce as a person, not a positional coach - he does not possess the broad vision or knowledge required simply review his playing career to substantiate that comment. Secondly I don't believe our present O coordinator cannot and will not be successful in the CFL. For some reason he does not understand or if he does will not incorporate any timing routes for his receivers aka Cavillo in Montreal. And thirdly, they have to get Willie some good QB coaching - he could be our QB of the future but at the rate he is going he will not.

    Just my thought

ughh no to Lapo. Didn't like the offense he ran either time he was here. 2002/2003. Felt that one only worked because of the sheer talent of Jones, Stegall, Roberts, Sellers and Bruce, and we all saw how effective his offense was 2010-2012.

Try this, find the games where he actually had a hole and hesitated to allow the defense to close it, or the times when he went down at an arm tackle, or the times when he managed to be in the open field and find his own blocker to run into.... Everyone knows that the OL got stuffed a bunch and there was no running room, the issues with Grgisby come from the times when he had room to work with and failed to capitalize.

A full game for Brohm…anxious to see him and his confident air and decision-making on the field.
He looked well prepared last game and threw the ball with authority.
If he gets rid of the ball as quickly as last game, that might help the running game get more than 19 yards.

Willy needs this game to sit back, watch, and only cringe from the sidelines.

Time for Watson and Moore to step up.

Maybe, just maybe, Brohm can hit Bryant's speed…in stride. Make some sort of use for him.
    Or across the middle..that worked.

Bombers have 42 turnovers, and given up 94 points off of them.

    In wins: 14 turnovers (2.3/g), 16 points off (2.7/g)
    In losses: 28 turnovers (3.1/g), 78 points off (8.7/g)

Offence has turned the ball over atleast once in every game with a breakdown of:
    1 - 1
    2 - 8
    3 - 3
    4+ - 3

Bombers have 28 takeaways, and scored 69 points off of them.

    In wins: 16 takeaways (2.7/g), 53 points off (8.8/g)
    In losses: 12 takeaways (1.3/g), 16 points off (2.7/g)

Defence has taken the ball away in 12 of 15 games, with a breakdown of:
    1 - 4
    2 - 3
    3 - 3
    4+ - 2

The Bombers are 3-0 in games with less turnovers. That's obvious, everyone knows that teams are more likely to win.

Here's the issue. They're 3-0 in games with less turnovers and they've played 15.... They have lost the turnover battle in 11 of those other 12 games and have a record of 3-8.

Now, if it was 1 turnover per game and they were losing, blame the defence perhaps for not doing their share in the turnover battle. But when - in 14 games, you have turned the ball over multiple times, that is clearly a problem.

    Let's make that clear.

The Bombers have a record of 3-8 when losing the turnover battle. The rest of the league is 4-49. Four wins. The Bombers have three.

While the defence hasn't been spectacular, they have certainly done their job in having the Bombers at 6 wins, when they should, or could have 3 or 4.

True if you've only watched like 3 games.

Here are our losses, keep in mind not all points score for the other team were because of the D either, special teams and offensive **** ups lead to several points scored.. Not an ETCH fan and predicted the same but..... to be  fair...

26-3 Edmonton 3 points for our offense? Yeah let's blame ETCH
23-17 SASK, that was the game where we turned the ball over 5 times, but let's blame the D
38-21 Toronto, that was on a tuesday after we played SASK, 3 or 4 days later... D was gassed by the 4th but kept the team in it up until that point
35-30 sask in sask... Labour Day, Offense had a chance but couldn't move the ball, lets blame the d tho
30-24 sask, banjo bowl, turnovers cost us that game but again let's blame the d
26-9 vs bc in bc, Willy got hurt and that game was close until the 4th quarter, that was when our offense couldn't move the ball at all once willy got hurt, let's again blame the D tho
16-11 vs hamilton, remember that one? had a chance to win on the last play of the game but didn't, let's blame the D though even though our offense couldn't score 2 touchdowns

The last 2 games have been blowouts so those 2 teams, yeah... they have sucked but those 2 games is not how the season has gone for us really

4 of 9 losses were by like 6 points or less
2 of our losses, actually 3 if i include the last edmonton game, we didn't score a TD all game

How can we blame the D again??

Like i said, not an ETCH fan but blaming the D when the offense hasn't scored a touchdown in 3 of our losses and 4 of our losses were by 6 points or less?? I dunno about that one.

I'm not gonna go through all those game stats but... Just based on what i recall, just eliminating our own offensive and special team mistakes, we probably could have won 4 of those games if not more, when you lose 4 games by 6 or less and you are turning over the ball lots and making special teams mistakes, pretty tough to blame the D.

I'm not an ETCH fan at all and thought it would be like this too but to ignore the offensive struggles the team has had is just blaming etch cuz you don't like guy, i don't like the guy either but... just because i don't like him doesn't mean i'm going to ignore the bigger issues we have.

Is the D a problem? i suppose so, but is the offense a bigger problem? Yes it is and if you refuse to see that or admit that, then i don't know what to say

4 losses by 6 or less, 3 losses we didn't score an offensive td all game.. How can we blame the D exactly? maybe for 2 losses we can blame the D but when the offense can't score touchdowns in 3 of those games and we turned the ball over multiple times in those 4 games we lost by 6 or less, not sure how the D and Etch get the blame.

Ignoring the last 2 games because most the season wasn't like that

in 7 losses we have given up an average of about 28 points a game, in those 7 losses, we have scored an average of about 16 points a game. 16.5 really.

How can you blame the D for the majority of those losses when the Offense has only average 16.5 points a game in those losses. 16.5 points won't win you many games at all.

Really wish i could find the stat on how many turnovers we have had and how many points it cost us in those 7 losses, cuz my guess.. just based on memory, it's quite a bit for sure. Can go on and on about the last 2 games but those last 2 games isn't what we've seen this season really, well it is, but not in terms of what the defense has done this season, those last 2 games are more of a reflection of what the offense hasn't done this season.

Now that it's shown what a piss poor attitude he has I am even happier that he is gone and dismayed that it took this long to pull the trigger. We are better off without cancers like that.
