... has Collaros been stellar, even given the excuses? I'd say no. His underthrows in this last Grey Cup were brutal. But are we making a mountain out of a mole hill? I think so.

It wasn't just the Big Game where he looked like a deer in the headlights, forced throws, and lobbed it into traffic though. He threw for alot of yards and TDs this season but also a pile of picks and bad pick-6s. Compare Collaros's, pocket presence, calmness in the pocket, his vision, throwing velocity and accuracy with that of Dru Brown and you can see Zach is on the downswing and Brown is better. It happens to every QB. Brown has had tremendous mentorship in Winnipeg. Why would you let him get away? They have to figure out a way to sign him as the starter. If Buck leaves, promote Zach to OC (or give him a role like Calvillo in Montreal) and let Brown lead the charge.

  2. ZC confirms what many others believe - Dru Brown could be the best QB in the CFL.

So, if that is the case, why on earth would Winnipeg let him go elsewhere?

Obviously if we can only afford to keep one of either Brown or Collaros - it has to be Brown.

“Under the right leadership and coaching and play calling and all those things, I think he can be one of the best if not the best guy in the league. I truly feel that way about Dru,” said veteran quarterback Zach Collaros.

Oh, I'd be shocked if he wasn't either.

@wbbfan states it really well. For Augustine, I think he's been here five years and has never emerged as a starting RB and don't think it happens next year in his age 31 season. He and Brady competed for the job and they split the job the first 6 games or so last year and he didn't emerge.

OK fair enough, although I'm not sure Johnny A was really given the chance to actually compete for the starting job. He never got enough reps. Few starts he managed to get in prior years, he show some real flashes. I know I'm in the minority but I think he's very under-rated.

I saw this on the other site in a discussion on Brady potentially leaving to go to the NFL. The argument was make Augustine the starter. My take is Augustine is not a starter and Winnipeg should move on from him. Honestly if Brady leaves find a quality american. If you need a Canadian RB Anshwi out of Montreal or Adeboye out of Toronto interest me more.

I'd be shocked if Oliveira isn't back in Blue and Gold next season. But curious: why would you say Augustine is not a starter?

You missed the key part at the end where he says he has so much respect for Osh for giving him that chance....

Maybe, but even Collaros said (thanks for his honesty) that Schoen and Bighill probably shouldn't have been out there. He also said Demski and Sheed were playing hurt, Sheed with a 2nd degree hamstring tear.

  6. I just watched MOS pos-game newser. That was pathetic. I know the players seem to love him but man, he is so stubborn. Asked if Bighill and Schoen were actually ready to play he said: "You gotta give the players a chance to be great - they can't do that on the bench." But they were hurt. And allowing them to play actually hurt the team. What kind of thick head couldn't see that?

  7. You gotta give some credit to Montreal D. They played well and our D did not. What was Bighill doing out there at all? Also, Faj outplayed himself, threw just one pick - and that was a great pick by Holm, not necessarily a bad throw. Not wanting to toss Zach under the bus but now you wonder every time: do we get the good Zach or the bad Zach? There's the exact reason why Hamilton, Toronto and Sask let him go. Anyhow, lots of changes in store next season. Hope this was not our best crack at the Cup for awhile ...

Also about biggie, he was holding back of knee or calf on the sideline. Devastating. You could hear the collective gasp in the stands

Couple years ago I bumped into Adam Bighill at the airport. He had a giant suitcase/trunk with him. He said he was taking the Grey Cup up to some of the First Nations communities in Northern Manitoba, to talk to the kids about sports, football and what it's like to play for the Blue Bombers. I'm sure his team-mates will be playing for each other but especially for him next Sunday.
