JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to Jacquie in Kevin Glenn's future
Guess Lui Passaglia sucks too then. He only went over 80% twice in 25 seasons. Dave Ridgway's career FG percentage was 78%.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to FrostyWinnipeg in 2015 CFL Schedule
Once again the same cities get the Labour Day game. Why should they get the cash cows?
Grey Cup is the last week in Nov? Just screams brrrr. Last 2 here were earlier and warmer.

Sorry but do you mean Pat DelMonaco??? Wouldn't that make it a bit of a reunion for them?

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to kelownabomberfan in Evander Kane & Bogo Traded to Buffalo
ha ha just listening to TSN 1290 and some guy started talking about the supposed alleged drug issues with a certain player we traded today and boom he was cut off and shut down. And rightly so.
It was too bad that he made that stupid comment about the drugs as he was on a good story about how much Dale Hawerchuk has been helping the Jets with advice on young players, and how much he loves Brendan Lemieux. He was saying that Hawerchuk is higher on Lemieux than he was on Scheifele. Anyway, it's funny to note that 24 years ago Dale Hawerchuk was traded to Buffalo in a blockbuster trade, that brought the Jets Phil Housley and ultimately Keith Tkachuk in the 1990 draft, a deal that shaped the Jets for a lot of the 1990's. So it sounds like Dale was instrumental in the Jets getting Lemieux in this deal. We'll see how that works out, but this deal may shape the Jets for the next 10 years too.

And ... I hope Kane is happy in the wonderful metropolis of Buffalo
Not that there is anything wrong with Buffalo, just have always got the feeling Kane wants to really be in one of the big cities.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to mbrg in Chris Matthews may not have punched his NFL ticket just yet ...
It's not enough to turn it into a legit career. The narrower confines of a NFL field make the speed and route running a bigger job requirement. Being a tall guy who can go up and grab the ball will get you a career as a tight end though. It's not like he's slow, but the guys who catch balls in the NFL are the biggest, fastest, best receivers in the world. That he is not.
Seattle will likely reward Matthews in some manner, and he'll probably get on the roster with some regularity next year. I don't think he'll move ahead of anyone though, and Robinson Richardson (oops) is the guy they're looking at as one of their future stars at receiver. If Matthews can continue to do enough to remind people that he's a quality role player, he'll stick around for a while. Every team needs guys like that. But it's unlikely that a star emerged last Sunday. His future in the NFL is as a role player, there is nothing wrong with slotting in as the 3rd/4th receiver and taking advantage of favourable matchups. But as a number 2 guy in Seattle's offence? There is a pretty good chance those deficiencies Brandt is talking about get exposed and highlighted, and what could have been a five year career making occasional contributions of great value turns into "not good enough, cut ties, let's move on". He was/is a bubble guy in the NFL, but I hope it works out for him.

So we grossly overpay. It's not like the Bombers are up against the cap like the Riders. I don't know about you but I'm tired of seeing our qbs being used for punching bags by other teams defensive linemen in the league. I don't care what they pay the guy to sign him. Just sign him.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to The Unknown Poster in Bombers trade Cory Watson to Saskatchewan
Media person on twitter saying this is also the Bombers creating more cap space. Is it wrong to to feel a sense of joy that Bombers trade with SK to create more cap space to make a big offer to Heenan?

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to mbrg in Esks trade Stamps to Als for Kenny Stafford AND FA Receiver Discussion
I am an unabashed Fred Stamps fan. There are almost no players from other teams that I pull for. Stamps is all class and talent, and I wish he'd been a Bomber instead of an Eskimo.
He didn't have a great season last year. He had 4 incredible ones before it. Maybe his best days are behind him, but I'd have been happy to have him on our roster in 2015 to find out.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to Mike in Kohlert vs JFG
Kohlert is better but he's slowly becoming overrated around these parts.
He was among the top Canadian receivers in what turned out to be a very down year for receivers in general. Sub 600 yard season, only a single game with 5 or more catches.
He's an above average Canadian receiver. Nothing wrong with that.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to GCn20 in How will O'Shea handle the QBs?
Brohm has the holy of holies working for him. He was a high draft pick. They tend to get many more looks from teams than their resume will dictate they should.

I think the next jersey I get with the retro look will be #14 to honour the late D i c k Thornton. He may have ended his career with the Argos & left here under bitter circumstances at the time but wow, what a player Thornton was who had his best body of work in Blue & Gold colours during the early to mid 60's.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to iso_55 in D i c k Thornton Passes Away
Sad news that former Blue Bomber & Argos defensive back D i c k Thornton passed away yesterday at the age of 75 from lung cancer. He played on the Bud Grant teams that won Grey Cups in 1961 & 62. Also played in the 65 Grey Cup for the Bombers as well as the 1971 Grey Cup with the Argos. He was a stud in the defensive backfield & a real character in his day. Very outspoken & at times, outlandish. I remember him very well.

JohnnyOnTheSpot got a reaction from Blue-urns in Etch Fired
Early Christmas for me. That said Etch was a good person, just didn't like his D. I'm thinking they already have talked to whoever they want and are close to getting him. That explains the long wait anyway.

O'Shea seems to prioritize loyalty over winning. This will ultimately lead to him being fired.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to gbill2004 in George Cortez won't be back with Riders in 2015
Good question. It seems O'Shea is pretty hands off regarding the offense so I think that dynamic might work.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to NotoriousBIG in George Cortez won't be back with Riders in 2015
This seems plausible.
Not sure if Cortez and Lapo would be a good tandem. I think BC will go either Lapo OR Cortez.
George will go to OTT to OC before us for 1 big fat reason -- $$$$$

Their defence was one of, if not the best, defences in the league this year. Washington might stick around even with a new coach, but if not, I'd be interested in getting him here as well.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to iso_55 in Lawless - Attention O'Shea: Fire Etcheverry
Everybody who is a CFL fan & especially a Bomber fan knew this scenario with Etch's defenses would happen. If MOS sticks with the guy it'll be the beginning of the end for him as a HC. The optics of keeping the worst DC in the CFL around for another season is bad optics for a Bomber team that needs to sell positivity to the fanbase. We don't need a stubborn HC. We need a HC who will do what is necessary to win & make the tough decisions. Etch has to go. There, I just summarized Lawless's article...
