  1. It was a terrible decision at the time and anyone with a clue knew it. But we had Mike Kelly coming in who was so egotistical that he just figured he'd ride into town and be the hero who dumped Glenn and won the fans over by replacing the guy who had the misfortune of following Khari Jones. I'll be honest, I was never a Kevin Glenn fan so I didn't care when he was dumped. With the exception of the 2007 season which was by far the best of his career, Glenn was a very inconsistent QB who always choked under pressure. Still is and does (this past Grey Cup). The moment his release became a terrible decision was when Kelly didn't have anyone better to replace him with (LeFors!). But today? I'd gladly take him over what we have now. Certainly wouldn't be any worse.
  2. I thought I read somewhere that the last marker was damaged and they were replacing it. Guess it's taking a while to get a new one.
  3. You know what? I'm done with Burke. After hearing that Buck is still an option, that shortly after proclaiming that Goltz was the starter going forward, after all the dismissals and embarrassment and QB "carousel" nonsense and deferring the choice to his OC staff instead of making it himself, after all that, we're right back where we started. Tim Burke is an awful, AWFUL head coach and I absolutely hope he gets fired after the Hamilton game. And honestly, if he were to come out with all the nice guy talk, and praise for the team and fans and have all the class that Crowton showed when he got the boot, I would care about him even less because of his ridiculous loyalty to a useless, washed up QB that has been nothing more than a financial burden to this team since he first got here. Getting rid Burke and Buck will be the icing on this mess of a cake and I can't wait for that day.
  4. Good move that should've happened the moment Bellefeuille arrived to "help out" with the offense. Sadly, I predict the Bombers aren't done with the firings yet and the next one up will be Burke. Little hope for the upcoming Hamilton game and then it's the LDC and we know how well that always goes. Then of course the biggest game of the year, Banjo Bowl. The way things are going, we're all but guaranteed three consecutive losses, and with that comes the end of the season for us. Burke will be gone for sure by then, if not sooner. Wouldn't be surprised if Walters and Miller are already making arrangements for an interim HC to get us through the end of the season.
  5. Silly me. Here I was thinking that fixing our quarterback/offense situation should've been our top priority when all this time the real reason we're 1-5 has been because of our kicker. Well glad to see we've remedied the issue. Things should definitely turn around for us now.
  6. Site looks great. Now with the blue/gold/white, it has more of a "Bombers" look and feel to it. Seriously, great job!
  7. Goltz feeling betrayed is to be expected. He joined this team with the understanding that no matter how putrid a QB you are, they give you at least four seasons as the starter before you're demoted to back-up.
  8. Here's a tip: stop signing screw-ups to multi-year deals. We keep granting contract extensions to people and then 6 months later they're fired, and we still pay them for the next 2 years. This last round just cost the team over a million bucks. It's idiotic. Walters wants to be GM? He's got the rest of this season to audition for the job. If he does well, sign him up for another full year. He does better after that? Two more seasons. NOTHING MORE! It's bad enough we pay people to do nothing in this organization (cough...cough...CROWTON...cough). Don't need to be paying people who don't even work for the team anymore.
  9. Agreed. No other team would hire Burke as a HC after this season so DC is as good as it'll get for him, and if he's smart, he'll see that and accept it. As for Crowton and Buck, fire them both. Period. Both are just awful at their jobs. And as long as Buck sticks around, it'll be more of a circus. Not sure why everyone thinks he'd make a good QB coach or any coach for that matter.
  10. I don't get all the shock over the timing of the firing. Who cares? Will it really matter if we don't have Joe Mack bravely leading us through the rest of this so far abysmal season? Can things get anymore chaotic? It's been said that since we play Hamilton and Montreal again, two other currently awful teams, we should hold out hope that there was still a chance the season could be saved and that's why it was a bad idea to fire Mack now. What was he going to do? Pull out that "secret weapon" he's been hanging onto for when things get really bad? Joe Mack did his job in the offseason. Or didn't. However you want to look at it. If we were going to fire him, we should have done it then. The Bombers are losing games right now because of our HC, our OC, our O-line, our QB, our here-today-gone-tomorrow defense, our maybe-maybe not punter and blah, blah, blah...a hundred other reasons. At best, this is a shut-the-fans-up PR move. Won't solve anything now since the damage was done a long time ago.
  11. Let's see; August, close loss to BC, horrible offense, last in the East...this all seems so familiar... Wait! Didn't someone get fired for being in a similar situation last season?
  12. Livin' the high life, that's how I roll.
  13. Retro jersey looks great and I'll definitely be picking one up but I have to say, something about the price seems a little off; cost of a plain jersey, no stitching/patches, is $109.99. Cost of a jersey with fully stitched name & number, according to the twitter post shown, is $209.00. Are we to assume that the cost of some letters and numbers is almost as much as the cost of the entire jersey itself? It's not just the Bombers either, NFL jerseys sell for pretty much the same price. And like I said, love the jersey and will pay whatever for it but it just struck me as kind of odd.
  14. Burke hasn't been all that confident in anything since he became HC and his record speaks for itself. Hopefully this new move works out for his sake.
  15. Kinda surprised by this move by Montreal. Yes, they were struggling but they're still a close second behind the Argos in the East. Things must've been going pretty bad behind the scenes for the team to make such a drastic move after only five games. I also get the feeling Calvillo may have had something to do with it. You could tell he wasn't happy on the field, not used to losing. I agree his age may be playing a factor, and he should have retired after the last Grey Cup win. It'd be a shame if he ended his career like Brett Favre and I don't think Popp can bring him back much glory. He's got nothing left to prove, hope he leaves on top.
  16. The Goltz promotion/Pierce demotion is the best move the team's made so far this season, no doubt about it. But I'm sorry, hate to rain on the parade here but this just has to be pointed out; the worst QB in the league is going to be working with the worst OC in the league in running the offense. Maybe we should wait to see what happens in BC (and afterwards) before celebrating just yet.
  17. Yes, there's really not much that Buchko can contribute here. What do they want from him? The team sucks, everyone knows that already. He's not the GM, he's not coaching and he's not playing. Really, he's nothing more than a go-between for the BOD and Joe Mack when it comes to the football aspect of the organization. His actual job is to run the business side of things. During the stadium opening delay, new security policy issues and parking/transit debacle, he was front and centre addressing the media and fans. There's not much he can do about the state of the team right now until he gets word from the Board to make changes.
  18. The Bombers just released their official mobile app for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android. Pretty basic but still very cool. A lot like the Jets app, both are by MTS.
  19. A few teams in the NFL have a fight song that they play after touchdowns are scored (Bears, Vikings). Is that the same thing? Found the Bombers' song on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQTCvQFG8QY I remember they used to play this at Canad Inns a few years back as people were entering the stadium before kickoff. I like it.
  20. Based on Wednesday's game? Every single other QB on the team.
  21. Have the Bombers addressed this issue with the media, as in given an actual answer as to why it was designed/built this way? I heard it was cheaper at the time, but now they have to go back and fix it so how did it save them money?
  22. Ouch! The guy who got literally half the points of our last game got cut. Coaches aren't screwing around...
  23. A ginger? Then you should be BomberGinjaNinja! And yes, that's just an example of the dignified and highbrow conversation you can expect around here. Welcome aboard the board my friend.
  24. Exactly, both coaches had met up and discussed a few of their basic game plans together so it's not like they didn't see the blitzes coming. Pulling Buck to keep him safe isn't much of a plan. Teams are going to be gunning for him every game (we saw this last year many times) and the best Burke can do is to prepare for it by keeping Buck in but also keeping him protected. I get that this was just preseason but once the games start counting I'd rather have Buck focused on putting up numbers not worrying about whether or not he might get another hit. That fear factor seems to have played a small part in him going 0-5 at the game.
  25. Some "fan/game day experience" observations; 1. Getting to the stadium was an absolute nightmare. NEVER saw traffic this bad anywhere in Winnipeg. Ever. Keep hearing that people knew it would be bad but not this bad. Don't know what can be done about this as there's basically only two ways to get into the U of M campus. Heard Transit riders had it worse with many buses not even showing up at all. Getting out of the stadium was a lot easier than getting in. More organized too because they had police directing traffic at that point. Still a few kinks to work out. 2. Loved the new selection of grub but the concession area was brutal in terms of people waiting in line for food/drinks and those trying to walk around them. Chalk it up to the whole concourse being more narrow than at Canad Inns. Very similar to being at a Jets game now. 3. The food is really good, especially the poutine. It was a 5 minute wait to get a "Torpedo Dog" (which is just a plain hotdog). I'll try it next time. Anyone try this new Blue&Gold/Bold Burger I heard about? Couldn't find it. Nice to see the Rum Hut's back but it's just not the same. Almost looks more "corporate" and fake now. Miss the old shack! 4. Beer selection is awful. Bud or Bud Light. That's it. I realize Budweiser's the sponsor but they need to have at least some variety. Maybe something from the local brews? The premium section/suites had more to choose from though. Speaking of sponsors... 5. Way too many ads splashed all over the place. Loved the two massive scoreboards but because of all the ads plastered on it, the portion of screen dedicated to showing the game and replays (and the score!) was no bigger (maybe even smaller?) than the old Jumbotron. But that's what pays for the place...sigh... 6. Bomber store service was awesome. Staff was polite, friendly and helpful even though the place was packed. Check out counter was fully staffed and they were ringing people through quickly. The little Bomber kiosks in the concourses were great too and very convenient. 7. Not really crazy about the half time show or game day hosts (Power 97). Actually liked Wheeler but he belongs to the Jets now. 8. New Buzz & Boomer! People in our section hated them so much they were actually heckling them. Buzz looks fat (thought they were supposed to be getting in shape?) and Boomer just looks really, really creepy. Oh well, hopefully they don't scare the kids. 9. Cup holders. Enough said. Wait, not true...Pizza Hotline cup holders! Again with the advertising... And finally... 10. Brand new stadium, same old team!
