[MOVED] Lyle Bauer back in Manitoba - Politics, not football
17to85 replied to Nasty Nate's topic in General Discussion
Well it's not quite as simple as that, a coalition has to go to the governor general and convince him that they can govern rather than calling an election. Similarly prorouging is not some evil sin either, hell Chretien did it a ton too, Harper asked the governor general to do it, the governor general has to agree, and that's that. There's nothing scandalous about it. Both sides were using the tools at their disposal to play the game. -
As this post actually explains the topic of coversation and doesn't fit with the idea that tburgess has in his head expect it to be completely ignored. Never have I seen someone so consistently miss the entire point of why people say what they say.

Eberle is more of a floater than Yakupov, just because he's from Saskatchewan and was a team canada hero rather than a Russian people over look it though. RNH will become a very good player because he does have a very good all around game and more size than people think. He's 6'1 and yeah he's slight but got more strength than he shows. Yakupov is actually a hard working player, he just needs more help from the coaches he's getting in Edmonton. People really don't have a clue what is going on with the Oilers, they just spout off the simplistic buzz words and expect that it fits. Between Scrivens and Fasth they have a capable goalie tandem now, they have a lot of defensemen in the system just coming into their own. Schultz as an offensive defensemen shows very good potential, Marincin and Klefbom look like top 4 guys in the future, Nurse had a great preseason in Edmonton and had a very very good year in the OHL, if they manage to get a guy like Ekblad in the draft this year all of a sudden they have too many young defensemen with potential. The Oilers didn't build wrong, they just let things get so bad from top to bottom before they actually smartened up that they were in an enormous hole with almost nothing worthwhile in the system.
-
They should keep the finger pointing out of the public spotlight. Just get it fixed and worry about who pays for it behind closed doors.
-
Edmonton might move Yakupov or even Eberle, but Taylor Hall is the man for that team. It would take a monstrous overpayment to get that guy. They can't trade Nugent-Hopkins either because they have nothing at the centre position in the system or even in the NHL really. Those two are a nonstarter, others could likely be had for the right price.
-
There is no chance we could get Hall for that price. He's one of the best offensive players in the league. Those type of guys don't get traded for 2nd pairing dmen & subpar goalies. Yeah but Edmonton's management is confused and desperate. We should be able to take advantage in some way. If anything Edmontons management puts too high a value on their players. Taylor Hall is arguably the top left wing in the league, he is a monster considering how crappy the rest of the Oilers are at generating offense. One of the elite offensive players in the league who doesn't get the recognition because of the team he plays for. There is nothing in Winnipeg that compared to Hall. If you do want to build a deal for Hall though start with Trouba then add something else you absolutely don't want to give up because without Hall the Oilers are lucky to ever win a game.
-
yes they do and if you don't recognize how good Hall was then I'm sorry

Mike Kelly tried that. He tried to control the message. How did that work out for him? The problem for Kelly was that the message was "I'm ******* insane"

You've got it backwards. Friesen has always been the way he is, that's not a result of the way the team has treated the media just the way Friesen tries to stay relevant in a world that needs newspapers and self entitled columnists less and less. I complain because Friesen is **** at his job, if he doesn't want to do the job well then I am all in favour of the team not giving him anything. He's got to earn it. Nope, you've got it backwards. When Taman was around it was a 'Love In' with the media because he fed them info and bent over backwards to help them out in every way he could. Since Kelly, The Bombers have treated the press with disdain. The result should be obvious to everyone. Try to put the media in their place and the articles they write will have a negative slant. It's the way the media has always worked and the way it will continue to work whether you like it or not. If they like you, they will show more respect and write more positive articles. You, and others, gripe about every article Friesen writes. You don't like the guy so you treat him with disdain and spew negative comments. It's funny because you're actually upset with him for doing the same thing that you do. Is it because he has a bigger audience or that he gets paid? Friesen has always been the same so don't pretend he changed when Kelly came in. The rest of them sure we can debate that, but Friesen has been doing his hypernegativity thing since day one
-
I for one, don't want Hall back...too many stupid/selfish penalties. probably got too many sacks and tackles as well eh?

The one thing you can't get away with in Alberta is treating tax payer money like it's your own personal piggy bank. This province loved Ralph Klein and his cuts even if they weren't prudent in the long term. They liked surpluses and eliminating the debt. Wildrose is likely to win next time but I am not sure if that's a good thing. I do like their libertarian slant on things but at the same time I worry that they may be too loose on the governing of things that should be governed. -
It's Paul Friesen, it was always going to be a negative story about the Bombers even if Wade Miller gave him a handy to go along with the tour. That's Friesens entire schtick, be as negative as possible. He's just a bad troll trying to get people worked up. The idea is to channel Friesen's negativity towards the builders and/or architects where it belongs, instead of towards the Bombers. The only thing the Bombers may have done wrong is hire the wrong architect or builder or both. When you're having something built, you leave it up to the professionals to handle how water is controlled. I doubt there is a single person on the Bombers staff who has the credentials to do it. You have to trust the professionals you hire to do their job. If they don't do it properly, you expect them to fix their mistakes. That's what the story should be right now. "Bombers get screwed by the architect/builders" or "Taxpayers get screwed by the architect/builders" or even "Who screwed up the new stadium?" complete with pictures of the destruction and discussion of who's fault it is. Yeah cause Friesen is always fair and balanced right? Guy was going to crap on the Bombers regardless because that's what he always does. I approve of Miller telling him to piss off. Of course you approve. You liked the way Kelly handled the media too. It was one of the few things he did right. Joe Mack had the same attitude and I approved of that as well. The media wants to act like entitled brats I wouldn't give them anything either. The brand is strong they don't need the media to pump their tires they just have to put a winning product on the field.

I think Bret Harts stroke really did a lot more to age him quickly than the drugs ever did.
-
Miller knows Friesen only wants in to write a doom and gloom piece, I applaud him for telling Friesen to piss off. The media in Winnipeg needs to be taken in hand and controlled better. The sooner hacks like Friesen get cut off from the source the sooner they lose what credibility they had with the fans.
-
They drafted a lot of tackles the last few years, what if they have a NI who can play RT but none that can play centre well? Would still be using 2 imports on the o-line. Hell wouldn't even be the first time that the Bombers used an import at centre, unless I'm forgetting but wasn't Benedict Ibisi a centre?

There are so many goalies out there on the market, just sign someone as a backup who can push your starter and you're set. Competition has a way of making things better and let's be honest regardless of what the numbers say Montoya isn't competition for anyone.

I think it's already pretty scandalous, especially when the Chris Benoit thing hit. Basically I think it comes down to this: Drugs are a hell of a drug. Treat your body like that as often as these guys do I think it's pretty much a requirement to be drugged out of your mind all the time.

This happens every year you know that right? They have about 70 or 75 players at the start of training camp but rosters are only forty some players. You basically sign a 2nd team in the offseason then cut most of them before training camp is done. I know it's "supposed" to happen every year but I haven't seen this many training camp signings in a loooooong time. I can recall maybe half as many players signed last year and there is still almost two months till camp. It's just nice to see a change. They've gone in with full training camp rosters every year, just because you are choosing not to remember it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Charles Roberts to be inducted into HOF this year

It was awfully nice knowing that when you absolutely needed to make a play there were guys you could count on to make it. -
does it look something like this?
-
Guys with term on their contract are more often moved at the draft than trade deadline day, the reason being there is some certainty about what draft picks are involved. There's a big difference between pick #30 and pick #20.
