  1. I like taking the flier on Bilukidi when he did .. middle round seems appropriate .. especially when you have a full complement of draft picks. Mulumba on the other hand was a reach we couldn't afford to take .. hindsight being what it is, it would have been nice if Mack had listened to Walters and taken Edem with that pick.
  2. People had input .. whether or not it was listened to is another matter entirely.
  3. I remember Cal Murphy saying that NI O-lineman are worth their weight in gold. I know it's a simplistic statement but it does demonstrate the mess we're in right now. The cupboards are bare and it could take up to a few years to really fix the problem. And free agency is going to be the first avenue that we'll need to aggressively pursue. Totally agree here. I've said it before but one of the keys to allowing your draft picks to develop (and season as it were) is to have bridge players in place. Unfortunately for the Bombers, we don't have starting linemen playing at a high enough level to act as that bridge. We have to be active in free agency, overpay in some cases (if you have to) but we simply need to put whomever we lineup behind centre in the best possible position to succeed. From there, you draft linemen .. year after year after year. You push the veterans you've signed. You push the practice roster guys. You keep hunting for that diamond in the rough and eventually, the overall depth and quality at the key non-import positions will have improved dramatically.
  4. Change also happened in no small part to the fact that SF had been stockpiling draft picks and had a glut of talent available to them in high rounds of the draft .. good drafting and good coaching .. got the most out of that roster.
  5. It's splitting hairs really as 1/3 (or more) of the LBs in the league are converted DBs ..
  6. It's not often NI linemen get cut loose in season .. especially one with the background Reinders has .. definitely worth a look.
  7. It frustrates me to no end that this team hasn't been able to bring in an American lineman (of better quality) than those we are trotting out there right now. I appreciate January and the level of stability he brings to the line but even when healthy, he's a journeyman at best and Boatman is nothing more than a pylon. I can appreciate that improving Canadian depth along the line takes time .. but to go this long with the imports we have .. it's a travesty.
  8. #Bombers add import offensive linemen Dan Knapp and Jarvis Jones to PR, release OL Colt Shulte from PR.
  9. I thought he did a nice job of standing in the pocket and make passes while it collapsed around him. Like the poise in the face of heat .. like the quick release .. question the arm strength, some of his mechanics and (if he's playing behind our line) .. the ability to stay healthy.
  10. Not sure how long Simpson is signed for .. but maybe a sign the club feels he won't be back next season?
  11. Trade one RB recovering from a torn Achilles for another ..
  12. Said this in the game day chat yesterday .. we have the most raw group of QBs on our roster yet no single person dedicated to coaching up that position .. we want to develop a QB for the future .. surround that person with resources to be successful.
  13. Also, if the premise of the article is to trade a cornerstone NI player for a *PROVEN* quarterback .. Bo Levi Mitchell and Zach Collaros aren't exactly there yet .. Best of the backups? Sure. Proven? Hardly.
  14. How do you know he was given any authority to hire and fire coaches? I'd like to think he was, but with this team you never know. My thoughts exactly. He may not have been given much of a choice but to inherit the staff.
  15. I think you have to let the court stuff settle before the league does anything. People are presumed innocent. Although that didn't help Aaron Hernandez. But the evidence in his murder charge is a little different then a brawl after the bar. Not suggesting the ban hammer come down right away (have to let due process take place) but guys, found guilty, need to be dealt with. Not saying these two are in this case .. was simply making a more global statement (should have probably been more clear .. it's what happens when you post quickly and run to a meeting).
  16. Really wish the CFL could step in and impose suspensions .. stuff like this reflects poorly on the league.
  17. Just read that and it's really interesting about Walters and the high school football but it sure would be nice if reporters could get their facts straight. Harris is a Lion because he was a territorial exemption. It's not like the Bombers could have forced him to play for the Rifles. No. But the organization's involvement in all levels of football here in Manitoba might help direct players to programs within the province. That interest and involvement can go a long way to improving grassroots football. It can eventually help funnel local products to the Bombers.
  18. I don't know why. It's weird to me how everyone bases their impression of the offensive linemen in this league off reputation alone. Guys like Tim O'Neill, Jeff Keeping, Chris Van Zeyl, Justin Sorensen and Marc Parenteau have really stepped their game up and developed themselves into very serviceable players despite a lackluster start to their careers. On the flip side, guys like Dmitri Tsoumpas, Andrew Woodruff and Josh Bourke have seen a pretty decent drop off in play yet they're still treated like gold in the eyes of most fans. I know what you're saying but I'd still take Tsoumpas over anyone on our offensive line.
  19. I disagree. Walters is a straight forward, look him in the eye and tell the truth kind of guy. From what I know about Henoc and his family, I think that they can appreciate that type of approach. I don't think signing him will be easy....every player wants to be part of a winning team, and we have struggled this year. I don't think, however, that Walters is at a disadvantage to other GM's based on experiance. The bigger factor will be what he is able to offer. ^^^^ And if he's able to sell the road map for the organization over the next few years .. it's going to be a tough sell for a lot of our FA .. convincing them we are turning the corner. I expect to lose a few important defensive FA.
  20. My take: Schematically we don't take advantage of Woodson's skills and, as a runner, have no use for him on our roster. The way we are currently built doesn't lend itself well to having Canadian running backs buried on the depth chart. We pick up a 3rd round pick and an non-import offensive lineman that's an instant upgrade over what we have at RG right now. Parenteau isn't going to dominate anyone but it's a solid enough move and we're getting value in the form of immediately useable parts and bump up the draft board this year.
  21. My thought is, Hall started the 2nd Hamilton game because they wanted to see more, but he got hurt. Has Goltz done anything the past 2 weeks to say he is better than Hall, or deserves more of a look? I don't believe that he has. He's more mobile. That's it. If anything, he (Goltz) needs to use his legs more.
  22. Improve the line first .. and provide whomever you decide is "the next one" the best opportunity for success. The two best friends of a young quarterback are the offensive line and a strong running game ..
  23. You can definitely tell when Burke is hands on with the defense .. BC was another example of that .. very much prefer the display yesterday to the soft zone, no rush of the last few weeks.
