As an addendum, how nice was it to see Denmark back making plays for us out there. He was always such a class act here, I'm glad that there were no hard feelings from the offseason and he was able to come back. Our team is better with him in than without.

I said all along we were a pretty good football team, we just needed a quarterback.
Oddly enough, looks like for the time being, we've got one.

I've said all along that I don't really care who the qb is as long as we win. Willy. Nichols. Davis. Bennett. Don't care. Just win. Maybe what we are seeing is Matt Nichols becoming a number 1 QB. Maybe not but so far so good.

The thread title just asked if a blow out would cost Osh his job. Not a loss. Now we must discuss the blow out against the tiger cats costing him his job. I say no.

Too bad on McDuffie, he's been getting some decent yardage for us this year and it seemed like he was poised to break one soon. That having been said, Fogg has been a more than adequate replacement. Every time I watched Doe returning for Edmonton, I was more and more thankful that he was returning for Edmonton and not for us.

The common theme in all the quarterbacks the Argos have developed is that they have sat and learned for 2-3 years. You dont develop quarterbacks by bringing in new 3rd and 4th guys every year.

Yep, that was against Hamilton I believe. Convinced the wife to let me watch in on our honeymoon.
Jyles had a horrible deep ball too. Any deep route along the sidelines and the ball ended up four rows into the stands.

In his one season with the Bombers Jyles put up 19 Tds and 7 Ints and a 100.9 QB rating in 16 games.  Not sure how many fumbles he had but I do remember one game where the Bombers were deep in opposition territory and a TD would have put the Bombers ahead late in the game.  Jyles proceeded to avoid a sack only to fumble the ball all on his own and the opposition recovered.  That play had a large role in the Bomber loss.
Ultimately, Jyles' numbers that season are perfect example of misleading stats.  So many times, he was in a position to win the game, only failing time and again to put together a late drive for a go-ahead score.
It's just like Willy and his 70% completion rate which ultimately doesn't mean diddly when he has been incapable of leading his team on a long TD drive and struggles to consistently put 25+ points on the board and can virtually never put 30+ points.

Starting 3 rookie receivers and a QB in his 2nd game in the system will put that much more onus on Harris and the O-line dominating the LOS again. That Hamilton front four can get after it too, especially Nevis and Laurent in the interior so Bond, Goossen and Chung need to step up and prevent Harris from being met in the backfield (which prior to last week was the case more often than not).

We need to keep our expectations for this game reasonable. Adams and Dressler were not only very good last game, they were in sync with Nichols. Not likely that the newbies will have that same familiarity with Nichols, so our passing game is very apt to suffer. Gotta pound the rock and play the possession game.

The biggest problem with Nate was no matter what the topic was he would hijack the thread to beat whatever dead horse topic (usually Lyle) or add his awful nicknames, often making his posts nonsensical and incoherent.
I'll take the current state of MBB over that any day.

    Craig Smith -
(14th year looking for talent at NFL camps.)
And now, as a national scout for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, I have been assigned nine teams to scout. My trip will take me as far west as Denver and as far east as Spartanburg, SC where the defending-NFC champs, the Carolina Panthers, have their camp.
Our team covers all 32 teams – not all teams do – and the result of what many personnel people in the Canadian Football League call ‘The Grind’ will be a database with reports on several hundred players.
We talk with the pro personnel people with the NFL clubs we visit to find out who we should look at first.  Then it’s time to eyeball our possible prospects on the field in practice and, if the NFL team allows it, in the video room in their offices. We also attend NFL preseason games to see players in the heat of the battle.  We take all those notes and then create a report for our database.
We marry up what we see on the field with what we see in his testing results and then find out about a player’s character. Every player is given a grade which is outlined in the Bombers’ own scale. Careful consideration of all the information gathered goes into a grade for a player and it means that at the click of a button, we can have loads of information on a particular player.
Craig Smith, a native Winnipegger and lifelong Bomber fan who has worked in the CFL with the B.C. Lions, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Saskatchewan Roughriders, is the club’s new National Scout.
He will be filing reports from his visits to NFL camps regularly to bluebombers.com over the next few weeks.
1st Report - from Green Bay
"Season tickets for the club have been sold out since 1960, which is astonishing for a city with a metropolitan area of approximately 306,000 people. Lambeau Field, which holds 80,735, is always sold out.  It doesn’t matter if it’s cold, raining, windy, or sunny."
"Most importantly, we are looking for players that will fit into the Canadian game. The fundamentals that every player learns from a young age are the same, but in our league, an athlete that may not necessarily fit the typical NFL mold can still have success."

"As an example; the men in the trenches do not have to be as gargantuan as they are in the NFL. We can recruit undersized running backs, and linebackers in the CFL can also be considered undersized for the NFL. CFL quarterbacks can be six-feet tall or shorter – and you’d like to have a guy that has mobility – but in any league accuracy is critical."
"While scouting practice, I watch the third and fourth-team players, and the odd second-stringer."
"I have included a Scouting Checklist that we refer to when scouting the offensive and defensive Lines. It is essentially a position-specific list regarding the guys in the trenches."

Yeah anything that was a signing bonus is gone, but future earnings are not guaranteed. I'm not sure if the amount in bonuses out there or not (it probably is) but we can always cut bait next year if there are better options available.
We all know Walters likes to spend in FA and if Willy isn't the guy then he's going to need some $$ to sign Logan Kilgore in a year or two

That easy toss to McDuffie for 6 was painful. I thought that was going to cost us later in the game for sure. Willy would have been crucified by us if he missed that throw. In fact, one of the main factors in the fan revolt on Willy has been his inaccuracy and missing open receivers (The MTL and HAM games come to mind).
We can ***** and moan all we want about the missed opportunities to pad the score but honestly, how many of us actually thought we would be dissecting a Bomber WIN in Edmonton this morning? How refreshing is it to utter those words.
All of the external issues were screaming a blowout loss and they got their collective **** together and not only squeaked out a win but were the better team for the full 60. I'll worry about missed opportunities etc. when they are relative to the specific game but every team misses during the game and it's how you respond to adversity what matters. When the Esks got the score to within 10, we marched right back down the field and got the 7 back. How many times have we seen the Bombers 2 and out and give all momentum back? Too many times to count.
Let's enjoy this one and reflect on the fact that a win on Wednesday puts us right back in the conversation in the West.
