    Predictions:

Chris Randle will make a nice breakup on the first drive, followed by Fenner blowing an assignment for a 20+ yard play. This will prompt USABomberFan to make a thread titled “Randle A Big Loss For Us? Hall Not Able To Effectively Manage Talent, He Should Be Gone.”

Dom Davis will throw for 300 yards and 5 interceptions, prompting a week long debate about whether or not passing yardage is an indicator of QB ability.

Joey will be referring to Whitehead as Rodney Darnell “Lucky” “The Breeze” “Touchdown Machine” “Can’t Be Caught” “Gone Like The Wind” Whitehead by early in the third quarter.

O’Shea will get run into on the sidelines and during the fall, his hat will end up crooked which goes unnoticed by him for the remainder of the game, sending Noeller into a fit of rage.

Willie Jefferson will have 7 pressures, 4 pass knockdowns and draw 3 holding calls but won’t get a sack, so Ripper will be telling us after the game how Saskatchewan doesn’t miss him at all and we overpaid.

    Bombers by 40.

Don't see it quite that way - with the way things seem to be going in the CFL (last night by example). This one could be settled by a FG at the end. Bombers may win but IMHO it will be close.

  2. The one play that stands out to me is the failure by the Lions to score from the 1 yard line at the end of the second quarter. Reilly is a big QB and I can not remember the last time anyone stopped him from gaining at least a yard. And to boot if I remember the play correctly, the Stamps defense stopped him right over where Chung sits at right guard. And Chung is known for his run blocking abilities from what I can remember. That IMHO might have been one of the pivotal plays of the game.

I still don't understand why there is a separate article for his picks when he is included with the other writers when they make their picks. Did someone demand an explanation for picking the Riders to win every week? Also yeah, if you're 33% sure something is going to happen, doesn't that mean you don't think it will happen?

Isn't he the guy I see plastered over on OurRiders.com? I think he predicts Rider Victories even when they lose!

Balance?  I suppose you are right, sometimes Harris runs to the left instead of the right. Sometimes Matt throws a huge 2 yard pass to him, it isn't always a hand off.

Good Morning Ripper - I have no issue with your comments - they are just your opinion and that is what a forum is for. HOWEVER (note that I did cap the however) you are granted much more tolerance here on this site that I would get posting over to your teams site (Riderfans.com). I do post over there and am always careful to avoid any controversy. Their admin will block anyone that even appears to have any degree of anti Rider virus in their blood. Consider yourself lucky to be able to post to a site that allows for view points such as yours.

And I feel like if that happens it may be the last we see of him. He will slowly fade into the sunset exactly like Drew Willy has.

Who is this "Drew Willy" you refer to?? :) Just kidding but I do agree with your statement and I really don't like the OL that the Riders will be trying to protect him with.

There are HS football teams in the States today that still run Double Wing & rack up hundreds of yards each game rushing.  I don't think there are any who run single wing as their base offense.  The Wing T is another offense that is great for misdirection. It employs 4 running backs. I think the Bombers ran the Wing T offense. Ken Ploen ran that offense at Iowa & Bud Grant wanted to run it here so he recruited Ploen right out of college. They used it with great success for a decade.

The Double Wing & Wing T are still used today & are dangerous, viable offenses.

Man i forgot about Ken Pleon. I probably mentioned this previously but I grew up in Des Moines Iowa and delivered papers for the Des Moines Register. If we sold enough papers (subscriptions etc.) we got free tickets and a bus ride to Iowa City to see the Hawkeyes play. That would be in the late 1957's as we moved to Dallas early 1960's. Ken was the Iowa QB and I can remember him to this day. Even now (I am in my 70's) I still remember those trips to Iowa City and the the Hawkeye teams from those days. He had long retired when I ended up in the Peg in 1981 but I still remember him on CJOB back in those days.

You're thinking Double Wing. The qb was called The Spinner in the Double Wing. He would spin the opposite way from the hole the running back  was going thru . The Fullback was called The Sniffer as he was lined up just behind The Spinner's butt. Like a yard behind. As an OC we used the Double Wing in bantam football here in Calgary. The Ol had no splits. It was just push ahead for the Hoggies & the back find the hole. In the Wedge, all the linemen aim for the same DL pushing him back about 15 yards. It was an offense from the 1920's but man, did it work! Only problem was leakage as DL could come around the Wedge & tackle the RB from behind. Only problem for the defense was by the time someone did we already got the first down.

I switched to that offense mid season as we had a qb who could make all the throws but only one receiver who could catch.  Our kids dropped so many catchable balls & we left TDs on the field every game. And we were 1-3 going nowhere including being shut out twice in 4 games. After a 15-0 loss to a bantam team we should have defeated, frustrated I went home, stayed up all night & brought in a Double Wing offense. Our OL loved it, our backs loved it, our qb loved it as he got to do a bootleg behind The Wedge & block downfield which he also loved. Our receivers loved it as they didn't have to catch anymore so the pressure was off & all they did was block. We went from a running attack of less than 50 yards a game to almost 300 yards a game.  We won some ball games last half of the season & actually made the playoffs. Every defense hated playing us because we were such a physical offense.

Actually a number of schools in the late 50's and early 60's ran the Single Wing - I think Ohio State ran it at times. I know that Iowa State ran it and had an All American Half Back (Dave Hopkins I think was his name). But you are right Wing T did exist but Iowa ran the Double Wing as they had two great half backs. I am actually looking for old film on the Single Wing just to refresh my memory.

This is a fantastic history lesson, and highlights some of the intricacies and difficulties in doing a position by position poll over eras, which is hopefully part of the fun of this exercise. I cannot like this post enough - brilliant job!

Great Read - on now to create my Winnipeg Blue Bomber Formation Controversy. Everyone points to Bud Grant as the creator of the Wing-T Formation ( Classic Wing-T Formation (100 / 900, Right / Left) ... This formations uses a halfback (or diveback) in the backfield behind the weak side tackle, and a wingback off the tight end. The fullback is in his normal position, 4 yards back from the ball directly behind the quarterback who is under center.) Bud used it very successfully and ran it all the time. HOWEVER he did not invent it. Bud actually copied it from Forest Evashevski when Forest was the head coach at Iowa. Man what a team he had. Randy Duncan, Willie Fleming, Bobby Jeter, Ray Rauch etc. They just ran over teams. Won the Rose Bowl if I remember correctly. When I was playing ball all the schools ran the Wing-T and some even ran what was called a Single Wing Formation with a "Spinning Back"  etc.

  9. OK going to get this started. I live in Calgary and have had business corporate season tickets for a number of years. Part of my marketing budget - not a Stamps Fan by any stretch of the imagination! However I do rub elbows with a number of folks that are true die hard Stamps fans (we still are friends for some reason). So chatting after the cup at lunch today and rumor (and I did see this over on the Riders site) is that their DC - Devone Claybrooks has some interest down south with one or two NFL teams. Just rumor and speculation but these guys I am talking to seem to know a few things around the internal workings with the Stamps.

Maybe he is afraid of the Winnipeg Canadian Mafia? :)

I blame Bauer with losing focus and becoming too obsessed with Lyle E. Style

Lyle E. Style or good ol Nasty Nate - brings back memories that's for sure. Wonder if he still posts somewhere? He pretty much has been run off most fan sites. Lived over on Riderfans.com for awhile until he got punted there.

What is Lyle Bauer doing these days anyone know?

Because he does his job with such class.

Why is this a classless act by Jones? Not quite sure I follow the logic. The guy was released and according to what I read is eligible to sign with another team for the balance of the year. Whether he make a difference for the Riders is unknown but at least if he gets on the game day roster he will get a paycheck. Not sure I see where Jones did anything wrong here.

I want the Riders on November 11th for a number of reasons. The most important being: **** that teams fans. They're the pigs of our league. Canada's Alabama. They deserve to be NO WHERE near the Grey Cup. I can't stress how bottom of the barrel they are. I want us to face them and eliminate them and have that rat ass province go back into it's cave for 8 months where it belongs.

So I guess you are not fond of Saskatchewan or the Riders? :) A little strong language comparing them to Alabama - what has Saskatchewan done to you to compare them to a place like Alabama? That's just not fair!

Bombers clinch 3rd.  Should be interesting in Regina (or Calgary) in the POs.

If I had a choice I think I would rather go into Regina and face their offense. On the other hand not sure which of the Stamps receivers will be back for the playoffs. I just think a Rider-Bomber SF would be fun and create lots of interesting comments on both teams fan forums. I visit the Calgary Fan Forum and no one seems to want to post there so doubt there will be much interest there.

Just an FYI... the Neil Hughes shirt Jones is wearing and has been wearing all season is for a Regina player that played many years for the Green and white.

Also it was GM\HC Chris Jones and President Chris Reynolds that made the call not only to bench Charleston Hughs but fine him the maximum. It all came down when the Riders received all of the information from the City Police. That takes time; No GM is going to make a benching call from what is reported by the media.

There certainly was back lash from MADD which quite frankly there should be. Plus a local sports writer was pretty vocal. They too don’t realize that someone running a team has to wait for all the info, unlike those who can spend all day on the seriousness of the matter.

Sadly the League dosent have a policy regarding impaired driving. We can probably feel confident that Randy Ambrose will soon implement one.

Thanks for the info regarding Neil Hughes - I can not remember who he was and why was chosen. Can you fill in the blanks for me? The name sounds familiar just can not place it.
