Before this thread devolves any further into matching shoes and purses I suggest the Mods. put a swift end to it to save our frickin' dignity.  If a Rider poster ever gets hold of it we'll never live it down...

West was just re-signed, he was here last year. Sears and Reaves are starters? who is to say they aren't training camp fodder.  Cobourne, Hall, Lapolice, Howard, Wylie, and Miles are all former rider coaches.  Lemon was with the riders also before when he was bouncing around.  Bastien, Cronk, Dressler, Harris, Hurl,, Neufeld, Newman, Rempel, Stoudemire, and Drew Willy. And that is just on your current   roster as of today. It doesn't matter much to me but there is a lot of Green on your roster.  Likely we are going to see a lot of red on ours this year and some green and gold too.

I'm surprised the Bombers seem to be signing a lot of ex-rider players, coaches too.  Seems weird. However I will really enjoy reading the post here from the people who laughed at us all year last year and said our team was terrible. Some said there wasn't a single player on our roster you would want in Winnipeg.  For the record, I always liked Macho. He has some good games. He is a terrible tackler and sometimes gives up some big gains because of it.

If the price is right, signing Dressler is a no brainer. The guy is all heart and has great hands.  I called this a while ago, Dressler will be a Bomber

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Durant could be history in Regina IF he is not prepared to take a significant salary hit....Jones is a guy that doesn't fool around (witness the deletion of household names Dressler and Chick)...Durant is an ageing qb. with injury problems and I think the writing is on the wall...Play for less or play somewhere else would be a Jones take on Darian...I don't know how much cap space the riders have but  I see them making a play for argo qb. Harris...The Tennessee gambler is going all in.

Durant has always been a winner though. Some qbs are just that way regardless of the stats. I hate to say it because he's a shithead rider but Durant has a history of winning games in this league.

Drew Tate is a notorious flake. One of the weirdest guys in the league. Trying to figure out what's going on in his head is a fool's errand.

This is right move by the league. Esks never asked for permission, plain and simple. Hervey is lucky to get off the hook without a fine. Truth is the league probably just decided to back off because they didn't know how to handle it.

The situation alone is evidence. He didn't just decide to quit and coincidentally get scooped up by Edmonton as finders keepers.

This Thorpe situation is just so different because it's a blatantly lateral move, and there was no attempt to contact the Als for permission to speak to the guy. It's, quite simply, a disgruntled employee looking to get out of a pretty iron clad contract. If you don't say no to this, then why bother having contracts??

I would say Edmonton has to buy out Thorpe at whrever price Als want. If they won't then Thorpe should abide by his contract. He signed it. Live with it.

I don't see anyway Thorpe can possibly be allowed to move from the Als to Esks. Its not a promotion and he is currently under contract. If this happens it would seem to greatly change the CFL coaching opportunities.

The eskimo's had cash resources available and a big stadium built by taxpayers money. Obviously the rest of the league saw it was a problem or there wouldn't have been a SMS brought it. Can we at least agree on that?  Buying cups simply refers to them being able to do things none of the other teams at that time could do. I don't expect you to acknowledge that because you are a Eskimo fan,but everyone else see's it as plain as day.

What the Esks did back then that made them successful, was create a shadow roster (kinda like the PR today) but was under the table. They would bring in their talent, groom them in their systems, and it created a steady succession of CFL ready players while other teams were teaching their new imports on the fly. These players were not signed to the team, as there were roster limits, but were paid on personal services contracts to various boosters acting as payroll engines.
It was a big part of why they were so good for so long. While they didn't pay anymore per se for their starting lineup, they did pay a lot more for players than anyone else. It was just off the books.

Your post makes absolutely no sense at all. Dangerous precedent?? Coaches leave teams all the time for promotions. Its happened many times, only difference this time is the Esks crying about it. We let Ritchie Hall out of his contract to go to Edmonton to be the HC there. We let Kent Austin out of his contract right after we won the grey cup to go coach in the NCAA.  Many examples where this has happened.

I imagine they did give consideration to guys like cortez and khari. But plop was probably top of the list, and i bet he jumped at the chance to get back to coaching and be the guy whose a couple losses in a row from being a head coach again.

Im guessing the coaches want the multi year deals. It isnt often a coaching spot goes to open market for a team thats in a great situation. Usually those teams have a dickenson in the system or a specific target. Coaches have the worst job security in the world, im ok with them getting a golden parachute.

Why would I or any other Rider fan have any loyalty to the players or coaches? They are hired and paid to win games, simple as that. I've been a fan of the riders every second of my life and will be until my final day. The players come and go as do the coaches, but I'm a lifer. I've never understood fans getting too attached to the players. I definitely have my favorites from over the years but most of them were guys that were long time riders. I don't care what team you cheer for, if you are a lifer then you have my respect. Without the fans there is no CFL and that's something that means a lot to all of us no matter what color jersey we wear on game day.

One nice thing about a smaller stadium and a big season ticket count is most of the idiot bandwagon people can't get a ticket for the game. Sadly you likely see more idiots at the road games than you would see if you came to regina to watch the game.

The bandwagon fans come and go with every team ( hey I noticed you guys haven't sold the grey cup out yet??).  But the diehards are there through thick and thin. That's what I referring to. Lots of great cfl fans in Winnipeg who have stood by the Bombers through some tough years lately.

You are confused. Rider Green never comes off. The fans stick with this team no matter what. Rumours of our demise are wishful thinking and nothing more. Even if no one goes to the game, there is nearly 30k tickets sold. Don't worry we'll be back
