Interesting how people constantly ragged on Pat DelMonaco when he was the o line coach. He goes to Calgary and they just win and plug and play when they have injuries. Good players make coaches look good bad players just get coaches fired.

I agree. We all feel bad about the injury but you can't go back and say the team should have given up after a couple of fluky things. A tip interception, a block put and a kickoff where the ball bounced back were not an indication that Willy was ready to be benched. There was still even the slim possibility of coming back since this all happened very quickly. The hindsight around here is ridiculous.

Change of pace was totally in order.  Watching Willy come in and march the ball for a touchdown to start the 3rd Q sends the wrong message to the team, and as a fan, that is not what I wanted to see.

this injury and all the sacks can be blamed on a lot of people. Willy for holding the ball too long and diving head first on his runs. Only an ostrich would disregard his place in this. I actually put more blame on our OC than the line. Cotton is running for more nearly 5 yards a carry this year, so the line can clearly run block. I cant imagine that they're so horrible at pass blocking but can consistently give Cotton a 4.8 ypc average.

MB knows we have a pocket qb, and so do opposing defenses. We haven't been able to draw up a playbook and scheme that will give Willy a consistent safety valve to dump the ball off, screen plays to take advantage of blitzing, and quick developing short yardage routes. Almost every single pass play you see guys running at least 10 yards before making a cut or a slant. Ridiculous.

It's super easy to just lay blame at the offensive line but the reality is nothing is that easy or simple.

Edmonton and Hamilton have hammered the team enough.  Whoa this team has been nailed down pretty well.

The optomism of the preseason: Yeah Picard will get dirty so Willy doesn't have to take clean hits. The O Line isn't made of feathers anymore it is made of muscle and money. Willy won't get dirty and hard hits every game. Wow those bubbles have popped pretty well.

There has to be a way to neutralize a defense that blitzes so much. There should be a way to take advantage of that. There should be lots of open areas for dump off's. That first game seems a long, long time ago now.

I would think that with the long grey cup drought in bomber land the fans here would appreciate that at least Taman got them a cup. Sacrificing the long term for the short term is what sports teams do all the time. The Blue Jays are doing that right now. The Boston Celtics did it a few years ago. Only a few teams are great for years on end: Patriots now, old time Montreal Canadians, 70's Eskimos. It is hard in a salary cap league to maintain success. At least he got the Riders a ribbon. That being said I don't wish that he was here.

Remember back when Doug Berry was here and the Bombers would have this great opening drive all the time then do sweet **** all the rest of the game? Don't get your panties in a bunch over an opening drive even if it is a long time consuming one. Football is a game of adjustments and the one thing I like about Hall's defence so far is how much he seems to adjust when things aren't working. He doesn't at least from my standpoint sit by stubbornly when things don't work.

It only takes a win to get the conversation going all rainbows and sunny skies. After the last couple of weeks I  wasn't sure there was any of that stuff left in anybody.

I know it sounds weird but even during the first drive I was feeling a bit positive. All the plays were short and the defense never collapsed like it had in the past. Once the BB moved the ball a bit after that I could see that the team wasn't down and that they could come back. In the past an opening drive for a touchdown at home would have deflated the team a bit.

In terms of running the ball. I don't think it should be one guy over the other. I like the split duties, 50/50 seems like it would be a perfect mix for these two guys.

Would just like to say I didn't know marshall could cut like that in small spaces. He made a move on a LB in the 4th that was incredible. I believe it was during his longest run of the night. Just slipped right by him!

I want to say something about Drew Willy's rushing this game.

Highlighted not just by thread on here about "pocket passers" vs. "scramblers", but constant talk of Willy's lack of mobility (Paul Weicek was on TSN's pregame show almost insultingly referring to how "obvious" it was Drew Willy wasn't mobile, saying he'll be even worse after a knee injury), it was so good to see him prove a few people wrong today.

The thing is, he didn't just prove them wrong today. He's shown over the last 2 seasons in Winnipeg that when he needs to, he can take off. I think this is another fair comparison between Willy and Ricky Ray -- Ray is known for being an accurate drop-back passer, but he can definitely get the yardage on the ground when the opportunity opens up and the need is there.

As if to continue the insults, the first question of the post-game Drew Willy presser was, "Can you explain to us how you got more mobile after you hurt your knee?" I loved Drew's response: "I've always been a good athlete in my sense. You know, I was an all-state basketball player. *laughs* You guys can write what you want to write in that sense. I mean, I'm confident in my ability. I'm obviously a drop back quarterback, but at the same time, I try to be athletic out there and get yards when I can."

Can we finally stop saying that Willy is a one-dimensional QB? Yes, the MB offense has largely focused on keeping him in the pocket, but I really don't think that has to do with his abilities beyond that (though he's proven that with protection, he's an incredibly skilled and accurate pocket passer). His QB rating is virtually tied with Harris for best in the league (113 to 114) and he's winning us football games.

There are problems with these Blue Bombers that one home win can't magically fix, but our starting QB isn't one of them.

What an important game to win in so many ways..for tonight..for the IGF fans..for 3rd place positioning..for the team psyche..to fight back from that opening drive where it looked quite dismal..and to stuff it to the nitpickers and naysayers who predicted a thrashing.

Also have to mention that Marcel B.'s game plan tonight was quite brilliant. Good mix and confidence. Moved the ball around, ran the ball and used his receivers...and Veltung. Looks like MB worked on this game plan for more than 1 practice. And Marshall...give this guy the ball.

That Dynasty talking stuff is either someone who is jerking on the line or someone so bitter their eyes are tearing up so they can't see. Their memory is not so good either. The bad old days were bad.

The Kelly era offense was so bad my wife at her first football game ever asked me why the the "ball throwing guy" took a hand off instead of standing back like the other team. She thought it would give him more time to find someone to throw to.  The first game ever and she saw how screwed up the team was.  She also asked why that guy was running along behind the line instead of downfield. I had no answer for that.

I think everyone has valid points and as was mentioned, hopefully we don't get to see either of them play.

The one thing I will add about Marve "making things happen" or "moving the ball" when he has played, I think he's been a little lucky in his small sample size.  I saw a number of throws last year (Calgary game comes to mind) where he threw across his body and back towards the middle of the field that we're narrowly missed by about 2 inches by the defenders.  They were not smart throws and 9 times out of 10 they get picked off, and if 1 or 2 of them had been this wouldn't be much of a debate at all

As well, everyone see that failed 2 point convert a few games ago.... where the ball went backwards as he tried to throw the ball?.  Sure its one play and those things happen but if Brohm did that people would be using that as another example of him sucking...why not then for Marve?

Again, not saying Brohm is better than Marve and Brohm deserves a lot of the grief he is getting.  It's just that Marve has not shown any amount of great quarterbacking in order for him to be seen as any kind of saviour

    OMGZORZ, I used teh statz!!ONE111

Seriously.  I just posted those to show how equal they were.  Triple Marve's throws and they almost look identical.  My point was, a lot of you guys act like he's this amazeballs QB that you are so sure is leaps and bounds better then Brohm when you've seen very little play time from him.  Yes, he danced around a lot last year and made a few fancy plays, but that was it.  He only completed 11 passes and ran for 45 yards.  That's hardly anything to be judging a person by when comparing them to anyone else.  I will agree with you that he does seem to give the team a lift.  And I do want to see him out there.  But I think you're being blinded a little by the fact that Brohm has played poorly this year.

Also, I think you're comparing Marve from last year to Brohm from this year, rather then Brohm from last year (FYI my response before was made because Bearpants said last year, so I was talking about Brohm and Marve's stats from last year not Brohm from this year).  I remember Brohm going in when Willy got hurt and he was looking pretty good.  Now what happened from last year to this year makes me wonder wtf happened to the guy.  Cause until he hurt his finger, he was actually looking pretty good out there last year.  Not great considering he's been a QB for 7 years, but pretty good.

No I think he meant the verbal bricks Elliot threw at everyone instead of being a leader.

A few can throw a ball and run but fewer still can lead. I think Brohm (spelling approximate) is not a leader and the team collapses whenever Willy goes down. I thought Picard would be a leader but it does not appear his leadership extends past the line where he is said to be an influencing force.

People can talk about his work with Calvillo all they want. It was worth considering his work with Calvillo when we hired him, obviously, by looking at his prior work and seeing his successes and failures.

He's been here long enough that we can judge whether he is the right OC for us based on what he is showing as Bomber coach. I see an offense that's been able to attack downfield often yet still manage to maintain a high completion rate from their (starting) QB.

I think almost every fan in the CFL feels their OC is too predictable. Its always easy to look back on it. Part of me feels that fans want some ridiculous trick plays consistently, but that's not part of the discussion here, just a tangent on my part.  I think if you study the offense week in and week out you can see the wrinkles he keeps adding. The formations and movement prior to the snap for instance have shown a clear desire to show the current opponent one thing, and present further options in later weeks. Little things, like having Moore head towards the QB with the potential of taking a hand off.

All this isn't to say MB is perfect. He deserves his share of the blame as the guy who's in charge of the offense. Still, MB gets little of the praise when the offense works and seemingly the most blame when the offense doesn't. Meanwhile, Willy struggled against blitzes early in the season, there are still several OL struggling to maintain blocks consistently, and Brian Brohm flat out can't hit an open receiver. Anytime Willy gets hit we're reminded that MB's offenses have had QBs take a lot of hits. This is a valid criticism if applied correctly, but often I think here it isn't. For example, Tyler got blown backwards and beaten immediately on the play Willy got hit on. Other times Willy has failed to identify the direction of the blitz, resulting in a hit. None of this is on MB. Now, there have been times when we've reduced the protection in favour of spreading out the offense, and in some of these cases I think the criticism of getting his QB hit is warranted.

The thing I'm most hoping for is Willy to stay healthy, because I think he can be outstanding in this offense. And if he isn't, then at least we have more film to work off of when fans are evaluating both Willy and MB. Having Brohm play is complicating the evaluation and probably providing a more negative outlook on this offense, in my opinion.

Fair enough, and that's great if it works. Always nice to be the genius who thinks outside the box and challenges the status quo - if the results are there. Sadly, the past recent history of the Bombers is that when they get guys in player personnel who march to the beat of their own drummer (Reinbold, Mack) and don't care what anyone else thinks about what is the right way to do things, their contrarian way of doing things has proven disasterous for the franchise.
