bombers draft in review.

9th Trent corney DL virginia 6'3 255. Crazy gifted athlete was considered a threat to be a late pick in the nfl, some how not even a UDFA signee. 4.6 flat speed the video of him jumping out of the pool forwards and backwards is jaw dropping.

10th Michael couture OL simon fraser. 6'4 292. Was considered undersized and in need of mass. Played around 280 in college.  Was pretty versatile and played all positions along the line in college.

19th Taylor loffler DB UBC  6'3 218 Was at boise state missed 2 years with hip and knee injuries before ending up at UBC. Big, athletic had to fight for draft eligibility. Combine numbers werent great, but seems to play fast rather then be a combine guy.

28th Shane gauthier LB Laval 5'10 223. 4.6 40 all around good mix of intangibles and athletic skill. Not huge, but i could see him making an impact on teams right away.

37th Zachary Intzandt OL Mcmaster 6'4 303lbs Dont know alot other then he went through a position change.

46th Rupert Butcher DL Western ontario 6'4 327. Combine monster, wrecked people in the 1 on 1s.

55th Alex Vitt SB U of M 6'1 205. Local guy who had a solid year for the bisons 31 catches 728 yards and 4 scores. Didnt see alot of production in the back half of the year though.

63rd Frank renaud LB Windsor 6'1 215. Played in the shrine bowl last year, hard work guy with a nose for the football.

Any one have any more info on these guys? Grade A draft in my books. We got a great mix of guys with potential to start, we got Athleticism, and some guys who can make and impact on teams.

I don't think TSN's coverage was brutal, more like atrocious ...

The first two 3 picks are obvious upsides to me. I am intrigued by Gauthier, his highlights are pretty solid (even though it is college ball) I think he will bring a lot to our special teams along with Loffler. Huge improvement to our ST and the Bombers needed that big time. I am curious to what happens with Butcher, if they change him to offense or let him play D for a season. Needless to say, I am happy with how we drafted.

Hamilton had a pretty decent draft as well imo,

Everyone seems to be leaving out Garrett Waggoner who we picked up in last years sup draft. He should be considered into the mix when discussing how the draft went. I think overall the Bombers, lions and ticats draft really well.

And speaking of Waggoner. Where does everyone think he would have gone had he went in this years draft? Could we have still gotten him at 9, 10 or later? Or would he have been gone earlier? I think Calgary may have had him at 6.

The thing about TSN is at least they cover the league!

Dunk is a great follow, but other than him you can't find a lick of CFL coverage worth reading from Sportsnet.

I agree, think someone from the league told him to slow down.

That's a good question... I don't know if he would have been ranked higher than Singleton or Corney... I think he may have been a 2nd or 3rd round pick...

He probably would've been a late first, early second. Definitely doesn't make it past BC at 12 (in my opinion)

The best reasoning I've heard on Waggoner is that his value was higher last year because there were no defensive players of his level in that draft class.  This year there were a few, so he probably drops some just because teams can get a player of his calibre who plays DL and DB.  And then there's Singleton.  So it's not that there was anything wrong with the choice, just now there were more choices.  And we got him a year early.

So from the first 20 picks in the draft, we have Waggoner, Corney, Couture and Loffler to show for it.  That is an excellent haul.  One person's opinion.

Sounds like it worked out for both teams.  More so for us though because we didn't have to give anything up for guys we ended up getting anyway.

I figure we offered up one of our 2 picks plus #19 (I get that feeling because Walters mentioned giving up that pick) so we would have lost out on Loffler if my guess is correct.

Yep, people have said this is one of the deeper drafts over the last decade so a high pick last year might not have been so high this year.  I'm good with what we walked away with, all things considered.

Waggoner is better than thompson... so 12th at latest

I think Edmonton would have taken him as last pick in 1st round instead of smith

*shakes fist angry-like*

I definitely think we did pretty good with the picks we had and factoring in GW from the supplimental draft, it makes it pretty impressive (if Waggoner keeps progressing and sees more time on the field in the defense)

what I wanna know is what is the plan with him?  Safety? SAM? backup to one or the other?  we are starting to get a bit deep on canadian secondary talent lol.

About as good as could have been expected I would say. When the draft is not deep, targeting special teams guys is a good move.

Must be looking at NI safety now that Leggett is SAM, no way Waggoner displaces Bass or Wild

One of Waggoner, Loffler, Morgan, Sherman rotating at safety

Shologan, Westerman, Goossen, Chung, Harris, Kohlert, Neufeld

Corney and Thomas rotating on the line

No need for Hurl or Bucknor as starters...
