49th season opener....

Last time we won a game in Regina...

Tonight, offense jelled...but defense was mostly Jello....

Easy to play O, when people actually block for the QB/RB's

Drew Willy took full advantage of the situation....

....with poise, good reads and a precise short passing game.....

...to the tune of 22 of 25 325 yds and 3 tds.

Outstanding game, from Paris Cotton....100+ rush yds....

...breaking tackles, and getting YAC in the passing game....

RB Marshall has some pretty good wiggle and speed....

....for a big power back.....with 2 TDs

That 2 back system looked real good today....

....and really provides more options....in the redzone...

KR Velting showed potential....had 65 yd return called back

Rough first half for Bryant.... but was very strong down the stretch...

Good game from J. Daniels on that right side....

Chung did not look out of place....in his debut...

Overall, huge passing grade, against vaunted Rider D-line

Moore had his first TD and a productive game....

Denmark still best receiver on the team....

Durant goes down with torn Achilles tendon...ending 1st half.....

Rider's questionable depth....tested early, with multiple injuries

For most part, Bombers controlled ball and clock, with their O...

But, DC Hall's tenure...off to shaky start......

Gap cancellation almost non-existent....on D

....as Bombers victimized by 3 long TD plays

...and a number of other big gains...

Soft coverages and lack of pressure up front.....

....completed the dismal picture...

Hurl was underwhelming at MLB.....

Big jump ball INT by Adams on goal-line.....

Parts of that game....turned into flag fest...

Riders had some problems understanding new illegal contact rules.....

Back and forth game......the Bomber O took...

....and the D gave back....until the last 2 minutes.....

Bombers then managed some stops....

....and gave Riders taste of own medicine....

...as they ran the clock out to seal the win.....

And that gin..... turned out nice again......

when was the last time the WBB's  used the ground game to kill the clock?

The Riders may want to sit Durant the next time we play them  

still a problem with our run defence but hopefully the LB's gel as the season goes on

those two kick offs out of bounds could have cost us the game

did JFG or Bastien play tonite? If you're not going to use them, we may as well start another import receiver

We better get a middle linebacker in here quick....that is definitely a position of weakness and I'm afraid Hurl looked like a back-up tonight...Get on the phone Walters...

I just hope Hurl doesn't turn in to this years version of EJ Kuale.  O'Shea can be very stubborn with "his" guys. 

Debate about this game reminds me of last year - doubts about DC, DL and our MLB, total reliance on offence to win us the game

 

Difference is the OL and run game.  Need Moore to stay healthy.

 

This game was less of a nail-biter than last year's early wins - but not by much

What I liked was that Cotton and Marshall could survive contact unlike last season with Grigsby.

Also the receivers caught everything and nobody took and really poor penalties.

It was almost like we were well coached.

I think with better talent at lb the defense will do fine.

Hurl reminded me of that useless lber we used to have back when Lumsden ran wild on us... I think it was McKinlay?

The score is all that matters, and better yet, we came out pretty much unscathed. Let all and sundry complain- we got what we wanted.

Good recap DoD (as usual). Overall the CFL gets a D- as the football was worse than I expected - at least the Bomber game was entertaining and had me watching, I stopped watching the other two I tried to watch (though I did finish the Eskimo game and saw the Reilly disaster - not that he was doing anything prior to the injury anyway - Reilly was terrible). 

Always thought that for all his toughness and strength.......Reilly, style-wise.....was an injury waiting to happen....

CFL.ca has more balanced highlights of the game.  TSN is a disgrace.

Reilly got hurt in the pocket by a low hit that wasn't the defender's fault.  His style had nothing to do with the injury.  It was more a fluke than anything else.

Fair enough, then I'm sure you agree Demski gave up a safety.

The Good:
The revamped O line gave Willy the extra second he needs and he took full advantage of it.
Moore finally gets a TD and shows us why he's worth that big paycheck.
Cotton showed why the coaches have faith in him.  Amazing what he can do when he gets a hole to run through.
Finally got that green monkey off our back and won in Regina

We beat a team we have to beat to make the playoffs and it wasn't just by a few fluky plays.

The Bad:

Penalties 14 for 167 isn't good enough.
