Bombers benched Grigsby for partying late

Interesting read: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/cfl-55-yard-line/can-nic-grigsby--cast-off-by-winnipeg-for-partying-late--lead-hamilton-to-a-grey-cup-party-204500093.html

It sounds like Nic Grigsby’s decision to have a little extra fun in the nation’s capital last month is a big reason why he’ll be suiting up for the Tiger-Cats on Grey Cup.

According to league sources, one of the final straws that led to his benching by the Blue and Gold in favour of Paris Cotton happened on the team’s trip to Ottawa.

Grigsby was out on the town a little too late the night before Winnipeg’s game against the RedBlacks on Oct. 3, during which he played terribly.

Grigsby rushed 14 times for only 55 yards against Ottawa, which crushed Winnipeg 42-20 in a game the Bombers desperately needed to keep their playoffs hopes alive.

It was the last game Grigsby played for the Blue and Gold, as he asked for — and was granted — his release five days later.

The Bombers were going to replace Grigsby with Cotton anyway because of his poor performances running the ball, but his lack of discipline the night before the Ottawa game made their decision much easier, according to sources.

Charles Roberts could get away with this the odd time but he still gave it his all on the field the next day.   Grigsby needs to grow up and take his job as a football player seriously.

But it rose to the surface as his career wore on...

I still haven't forgiven him for showing up to the 07 Grey Cup hungover.

Roberts was a once in a generation talent, Grigsby is just another easily replaceable part. Roberts was great but he could have been a CFL legend,

Has that every been confirmed as fact?   I know it's been rumoured but is this just a players history causing speculation?

I don't know if it's confirmed but I heard it from places I'd put enough weight in to believe it's a fact.

Yeah, um no he couldn't, Charles Roberts went out like a tool, ruined a great career.

Guess you didn't watch many games from 2001-2007, because that's what he did. Anyone who knows anything about the team during that time frame knows that Roberts took terrible care of his body, and was still easily the best running back in the league during that time.

never said he didn't.... MY problem is he could of had many more great years, if he wasn't so selfish. Who knows how good he could of been if he got his head outta his ass. All i know is in his last season here he acted like such a prick the entire you he want from being my all time favorite Bomber ever, sheer disapointment.

My memory is bad... how did CR act like a prick?

I know of his drinking shenanigans but I don't remember him fighting with team mates?

Meh, most comments from smoking seem to be based in an alternate reality so I dunno.. I remember him just losing a step and then being traded for another RB struggling as much as he was..

Pretty sure both were out of the CFL next season..

10 rushes for 22 yards and a fumble.  Another special Grigsby performance!  Hope you enjoyed him Ticat fans!

For the above posters, Charles suffered an injury while with BC.  Granted he was on the downswing before the injury, but even if he wasn't that injury might have been the end of him.  Also, Roberts was traded for Joe Smith who played the following year with us in 2009.  He and Reid paired off in the backfield that season.
