We increase the number of linebackers on the roster to 11.

I, for one, never had any doubt...

  • Best game we played in several yrs. This looked more like the team we have known before and they definitely did their work during the week. Now if they can string this kinda effort and execution toget

Collaros was really good last night and I think with Nield actually making some tough catches and clercius as well it really highlights to me why we need another solid option at receiver. Need those couple plays at key times consistently

So yeah, move Nichols to safety. We have stats to back it up.

I don't see a need for Nichols to be on the field. He doesn't play physical. He's backing off when it's time to fill in vs the run from half.

Let him coach and mentor and if we need him due to other injuries put him back in. Maybe if he takes 6 weeks off he'll be healthy when we need him next.

Safety in this scheme is as much man cover as any other spot and he is getting torched week after week.

Okay how about this - move anyone but who we have now to safety. And to the Grey Cup we go!

Lots of talk about how much better we were without Nichols but we still gave up 4 TDs and a ton of big plays.

Fajardo is a good deal less whiny than he was a couple of years ago- maturity will do that. Alexander is full of himmself which makes him a good, competitive athlete, but annoying. He is likely to grow out of it.

I'm sure he will.

Osh would say all's fine.

But also got themselves off the field quickly too. The also offense has been curb stomping the league this year, bombers D handled them very well.

Certainly better last night....one heckuva departure from some of our home tilts....Surprised the hell out of me and made me wonder where was all of this in previous games...IF we can continue down this road we could be looking at a decent playoff position in the coming weeks...We're certainly 'in it' with more confidence as of that win, against what is supposedly the best team leading the pack.....Zack looked like the Collaros of old ...the offence was clicking and the defence came up tough when they had to...Can we keep it up, also the ol proverbial sexual question? We'll find out with the next 2 against the 25' Cup winners, either making a huge statement or reverting to our old ways....GONNA BE VERY INTERESTING

Not many big plays. Gave up 3 TD's in first half, nothing in third Q and one in garbage time. Still only 284 net yards when a lot of the second half Als were trailing 2-3 scores. Usually teams pile up yards in games like that.

Two of the TD drives Als started around midfield or better.

Would like to know on the one big pass WTF Jefferson was doing and if that was called or just him being a moron. Went from strong side edge twisted to weak side B gap and then Alexander just rolled out and stood there all day.

Pass rush needs to be way more disciplined. But this is the best game we've played in two years in terms of guys attacking the ball at all levels of the D.

Those penalties Neuf took were bad but boy did they set the tone. "Nasty Neuf" is back baby! I still remember the hot mic of Neuf yelling at the Sask Dline in the ESF in 2018 as he and the oline roadgraded them down the field," you're bleeping *******!!" Ha ha ha that's the Neuf we need. The young guys pick that attitude up fast, and it's a good thing(without the penalties lol)....

Sooo I guess we over reacted during the last few weeks :D

That being said... I still want changes. A few new faces please and thank you!

Yeah that was weird...that play should have been called back anyway as a MTL Olineman was hanging off Fletcher like a tablecloth weight...like how any ref could miss that is baffling

Speaking of Fletcher he quietly rounding into a pretty good Dlineman who can play multiple spots...sure he still learning but is now playing fast unlike earlier in yr and is starting to have a knack for making an impact play a game...For a rotational rookie...13 tackles...1 TFL...3 sacks..a fumble recovery...cant argue with that

And agree...was aggressive and one the better all around games...Noticeable (Again for Vav's) is the ability to man up...or give cushion but recognize and react immediately and close in a heartbeat tho either break it up or stop a play in it's tracks...also he has the speed to make up space and correct . Texada as well showed some real nice technique out there and plays with speed too...The one play where he basically walled out Philpot (I think it was Philpot) and forced him without touching him while in his hip pocket to squeezed him to the sideline where only person who was gonna be able to make a play on the ball was him, was a thing of beauty. That's a skill and not a lucky one off...that was what you would use in instructional videos...If the 2 of them play next week again...and do similar work...They have to be the starters moving forward...

That's how the oline needs to play...And like you said...it's infectious. In my opinion the second penalty was kinda weak sauce...seen way worse than that before at end of a play thats never called.

heck no... convincing win but still some issues that were there that the 3 phase dominance masked over...But it is encouraging but still only 1 win...you need to put 2 or 3 of those together at minimum. We still have 2 wasted spots that need to be addressed....Cobb, and dressing Hazen as in inconsequential DA...In 3 games has done absolutely nothing to justify being on roster, and he would not back up any LB spot in a game if anyone went down...let alone 2..3 guys

I'm not sure whether you're attempting a joke or are serious. Deatrick Nichols, listed at 5'9" and 172lb and 32 years old as a Safety would be similar to a much younger (early in his pro career) Kyries Hebert at 6'1" and 220 lb????? As JBR mentioned, there's no need for Nichols to be on the field.

So based on previous posts on here, is this win 100% on MOS. The team showed up prepared and lots of guys looked good.

I know from all the football experts here if the players play like ****, that has nothing to do with them, it's all MOS not having them ready to play. So last night they looked good, that's 100%MOS and the players had nothing to do with it?

Just trying to keep in line with the regular conclusion in these parts that the players are in no way responsible for their own preparations.

So how does Nichols go from a GTD to a stint on the 6-game?

Bombers always seem to like to play it fast and loose with the injury list but this is egregious even for them.

Cause Mike O'Shea doesn't like to ever sit veterans down even if they're hurt.

it doesn't have to be Nichols. Just someone better than who we have now. Both Herbert and BA were kind of parachuted into those roles and both made our defences exponentially better. If we don't have to play a NI at safety, then let's get someone in there who can really make a difference. We've seen it happen, it can happen again.

receivers made catches they weren't...Oline was making blocks they haven't...2 new DBs playing only due to injury showed they belong...guys didn't quit on plays...that was the difference...a lot of the players who were crapped on with osh actually played well....and....it was 1 game....see this in 3 or 4 straight now.

He still had some blank spots on the roster which make zero sense...It's not like he did anything different...he even said the process is the process. I'll give him credit tho where due...other than not throwing his flag on the blocking downfield penalty that was a load of crap...he didn't make any bone headed decisions.

safety doesn't need to be a monster either..needs to be smart...have eyes to see things.... direct others...Look at Kelly...he's built like a 12 yr old, and always seems out of position or out leveraged...so basically shows he isn't seeing things right...or is slow as hell with his recogniotiton

Most here have covered all my thoughts.

Nasty O line, tenacious D line...DB's looked quicker....Kelly has improved sure, but I do not believe he is the best player to have at safety ....we need to get one more receiver onto the roster, as so many have allude drop easy Singer for Hazen, as Singer can return and our return guy is going to be hard to get off the regular defence....Vaval is small but so shifty and quick, seems smart I wonder if he could play safety?....where is Cam Allen ( I think that was his name) in his recovery?....

Zach may not win any sprints, but so nice to see him moving around, he is not a stay in the pocket QB......Condell best game plan as a Bomber.....Brady is that good....Neild needs to play like that every game....

Can we do it again next week??

Almost forgot....Tanner Caldwalder, career game for him!

let's just do it every game for the rest of the year. I'm now ready for a rematch with Montreal in the Grey Cup, and seeing Davis Alexander crying in his sideline interview at half time lol....

15 hours ago, kelownabomberfan said:

It did kind of feel like Montreal thought Winnipeg would just roll over and die, like so many times before. Then they were baffled when they didn't. Davis Alexander sure doesn't know how to lose gracefully, that's for sure.

no joke. Alexander is taking on maas’ old personality.

We coached and played to win. That’s a huge improvement. We acted as though the season was on the line, and it was. They pulled it out against all odds, which is fantastic.

Mos taking the ball again to start instead of playing for 4th q wind, challenging the first play, we haven’t seen mos like this since before the 19 gc win. I give him props for that for sure. Idk if it will change any ones fortunes or not, but i am really glad that this team and the mafia aren’t going to go gentle into that good night.

Pat Neufeld took like 30 yards on penalties himself. What up with that.

To me, that looked like paddy sending a message to the rest of this team and the league. I’ll take it too. Give me penalties of aggression and edgy play over soft, indecisive football any day.

we did a much better job of using nield. We gotta let the few big guys we have do big guy stuff. Rather than tossing 50/50 balls to the jv size guys

mtl is like that though. Also, with a huge hole at S it makes limiting big plays harder. We also blitzed with fewer guys but more frequency which is the risk you run.

Really highlighted to me how bad Nichols has been and it's less scheme and more a guy who can't physically play the position anymore.

I think both were a problem. Same was moxey is a problem. And kelly.

I’m sure kramdi will go back to S as he seems almost ready. Don’t love it. But i also wouldn’t mess with smith at sam. I’d rather put kyrie or an athletic guy at S.

Also, i’d put vaval in the nickle pack as the second S if we want to run that cover 2. Vaval is great at reading the ball in the air, crazy dynamic and physical. he’s been much better this year than last when pressed into duty as well. He would really give teams some thing to worry about in the secondary

I had no issue with Neuf's play and we needed that edge back...And it worked because you saw it all through the line...Wallace's best game of the year as well...He played more like a 5 yr vet last night. Once that monster dials it all in and figures out his strengths......yikes! And I will say it again...I think Bryant was not 100 percent until last week and it affected his play...especially in static position on passing plays outta the snap...last 2 games...worlds better...he was moving and grading last night...and now he has a stable base again his big asset...his hand skills showed

MOS gets my props too...Like you said he actually did some smart decision making right outta the gate...only real blunder was that penalty on Pokey...shoulda tossed his flag there

I hope he see's the reality Vav's is our best corner and adds a huge difference in the backfield, and the sample we saw with Texada....real good...we need those 3 youngins (Williams) to get some familiarity with each other down the stretch here....and if we fix that safety void....we have shades of a 2019 Backfield reboot to totally solidify things...I truly think putting Nichols there could do it. As really that's the only real option we have outside of Hallett/Kelly/Kramdi since he refuses to dress Stuart

Fletcher is also rounding into form and what I saw he could be in TC...He's becoming disruptive cause he is playing fast now...and seems to make a big play or 2 a game
