It's not just the calls, it's the delivery as well. He seems past his time.

The head ref can overrule his assistants in soccer - methinks football should be the same.

SpeedFlex27 Posted Saturday at 11:02 AM Report Posted Saturday at 11:02 AM Just a quick comment regarding the postponed game last night. The CFL & CFLPA said it was too dangerous to play due to smoke. Yet, the league made 27000 people sit outside in that same noxious smoke for over 4 hours while TSN, the CFL & CFLPA couldn't get their **** together to make a call to postpone the game so people could get out of the smoke. rebusrankin, Piggy 1, Stickem and 2 others 5
SpeedFlex27 Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago How refreshing it is having Laura Diakun as guest host in the absence of Kate Bierness? She's a pro who keeps the panel on task & guess what?? They actually can have an interesting football discussion with Diakun. Unlike Bierness, who is all over the place with her comments, jokes, wild laughter & skits. The panel just follows her lead & gets goofy. Bierness is not a host. She lacks the discipline that Diakun has, She seems perfectly suited to be the full time host of TSN football. I wish TSN would make a change. Brandon, Atomic, rebusrankin and 3 others 3 3

The policies the league has for this are pretty easy to find and make the protocols explicitly clear. If AQHI+ as deemed by Environment Canada (you can actually see these values in pretty much all stadiums via the Purple Air map) is 8 or above, players aren't allowed on the field. The policies also state that there will attempt to make things work for up to 3 hours (I think they let it go to 4 in this case). Regina was also under a special air quality warning at the time. Should the league have been more proactive in maybe rescheduling based on the forecast? Maybe, but they were hoping that winds would come and mitigate the issue. Should they have left everyone sit in the stands without much updates within the stadium? Probably not, but in an open air stadium what else can you really do. Everyone has their own risk profile and were expecting to be there for at least 3 hours anyways. And it is indeed a safety issue for the players more-so than the fans in the stands... it is an order of magnitude more dangerous doing wind sprints up and down the field in that kind of conditions than it is hanging out in the stands. The problem is with something like lightning, you know there is some timing involved and you can actually see it. Of course there are people that are going to dip as soon as the delay happens, and then you make the decision as time goes on as you see more or less lightning. With the smoke its just kind of... there and you can almost get acclimated to it but as soon as you hit fresh air its clear what was going on, but you have morons on Facebook and X going "hurr-durr back in my day I'd run marathons sucking back a pack of darts players these days are babies."

My 2 cents... The league got bogged down in logistics for Calgary and completely forgot about the fans. How they handled this was completely ridiculous. They've significant shortened how long they will delay games for thunderstorms, but an air quality delay can be indefinite? Policy should be the call is made based on the numbers 1 hour before the game. At the latest. 1.5-2 hours would be more reasonable. If they want, have the decision made in consultation with public health in the city or someone like that. The CFL can't seem to figure out their own parameters on what is safe or not, or whether it's Labour Day and we can't cancel or not. Take the decision out of their/TSN's hands then. Need to have some respect for the health, safety and time of the customers. rebusrankin, HardCoreBlue, SpeedFlex27 and 1 other 1 3

Most fans aren't in the shape of a football player. The average man & woman expend a lot of energy climbing up & down stairs as they're out of shape. Parents brought babies & little kids to the game & their immunity systems haven't developd like that of adults. Is any long term damage being done being exposed to the noxious chemicals in the smoke? I'd bet that never came up in the hours long discussion between the CFL, CFLPA & TSN on rescheduling the game. The only safety issue to those 3 was protecting the players but not the fans. The league doesn't take that into consideration. Decisions need to be made much quicker with a whole set of different parameters neded to speed things up. Making people wait like that for hours in those conditions was absolutely ludicrous. Edited 3 hours ago by SpeedFlex27 rebusrankin 1

If air quality was as bad as they say then get everyone out of that toxic nightmare. Cancel the game & do a make up whether it's the next day or two months from now. People wonder what is up (or down) with attendance. To me, the answer is easy. Disrespect the fans & this is what you get. No one shows up. I wonder how many fans the Riders lost Friday night with the way they & the CFL handled everything?
