Other tidbits from the show, Global punter Evans refused PR offer, he signed with Riders today.

Cooley was O'Shea's favourite player in pre-season, loved how he played without the ball, absolutely punished players he blocked.

Thanks for the tidbits. I kind of suspected evans refused a pr spot. Sucks he is sask bound but not surprised.

Cooley is to much not to love lol.

Thats why I am....err I mean he's so slow off the snap and tippy toeing around behind the play....dont want my Razor flip to fall outta my pants

He's painfully slow off the snap.

Watching JT defend on a hurry up O would be agony to watch.

Eye roll emoji incoming from stop talking about JT posters. 🙂

I agree, though Evan’s didn’t shank any and has astronomical leg talent and potential and is just 23/24.

I would have preferred Evans (age/potential). But I think the competition was a lot closer than what some think. And that typically means the vet wins.

Didnt need to be a run away...the talent was there...and better...youth....and potential...he got only 1 kick as well in second game....Osh knows what Punter has...which aint much...Evans should have got the bulk if not all of the second game...he should have also put him in for those kicking at our goaline situations too...to see what he had and if he could put it out of scoring range....and he didnt....we all know Sheehan cant do it....another case of whats the point of bringing a guy to TC  when you already have incumbent penciled in...and it's not like we havn't seen this over and over

And with a Punter being grabbed immediately after cuts...especially by a team that saw him up close..,,and  prob watched him in warm ups too...well....to me thats pretty telling who they saw as a legit punter

Someone seriously thought we needed an entire article to justify cutting Myron Mitchell?

The first line of the article says "The Blue Bombers made a move that surprised some fans"... either I have no idea what the casual fan thinks (due to getting all my info here) or the media is completely clueless... I come to that conclusion also referencing the pre-game show from pre-season game one where they were talking about vets who might be at risk of either being cut or losing playing time... and Ed Tait went on to say (paraphrasing here) "a lot of fans will be shocked to hear this but I think Jake Thomas will start getting less reps this year"... Do most casual fans think he's a stud?

PS... this is not meant to start more conversation about JT... more about casual fans

If Facebook comments can be used to measure the intelligence of an average fan, then it would not surprise me in the least if that was how he was perceived.

Welcome back for another year FatBoi Thomas! Still producing after all these years. And CANADIAN!!

An actual FB comment from when he got re-signed in January.  My question would be what has he actually been producing other than an enormous amount of message board posts?

Boy I don't think any one else wouldve said the wr position group was excellent

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers made a move that surprised some fans during their post-training camp cuts, keeping veteran receiver Dillon Mitchell while releasing second-year target Myron Mitchell.

Really? Fans were surprised? Which ones? We kept the vet free agent over a 1nd year guy who underwhelmed in year 1... this is a shocker!

The media was shocked because they are lazy and one of their colleagues told them Myron played well, and they jumped aboard the Myron Mitchell express. Fans surprised? Nope...we pay attention.

2024 CFL punting stats also don't shoot off the page well for us.

and they trumpet and always say "important piece/starter J.Thomas is back."....or some variation of that because Osh will go on podium...or in media scrum on practice field and say as such....so yeah @GCn20 U nailed it...lazy journalism...just go to any practice and witness it up close

Tait is good...was a great beat reporter....but he also now gets a lot of his talking points from the team it seems....

A good thing tho about how Osh picks "his" favorites and goes on about them...Cooley seems to be one...and actually is a player that could be a real plus to the line up.....but with our luck will be the one time said player doesnt get even a sniff of regular rostering

I don't agree that it was closer than perceived. I haven't seen a multi-year incumbent punter with such frequency to shank punts be handily the best punter on any team with competition. Sheahan is Mos' guy, it's really that simple. Evans wasn't like some guarenteed golden leg reincarnation of bob cameron. But everything I saw and heard, he was clearly better. Even angle punting and hang time, Evans was better. But his speed at getting the ball off and consistent abilit to drive the ball down field a lone set him head and shoulders above Sheahan. Dude is good for at least 1 shank a game/practice, and prone to shank streaks on top of that. He has good games, and he has games that aren't brutal. But he is very consistent in smoking a ball off the side of his foot out of bounds for a net 10 if we are lucky. If you break down his splits, it would be sickening how many under net 25s he has.

nope....the fact that he cant really kick a team out of scoring range is problematic...especially in a league where 80% of games are decided by 5 or less points....That and his kicks 9 times outta ten allow forthe returner to get ball and a good 15 yards of field and in high gear before anyone is close to him...or have to try and find a lane or seam....totally defeating thepurpose or negating your coverage schemes

Evans was also a trained punter in American football for yrs....and has technique and form...and got ball off in 2 steps...Sheehan wasnt...has horrible technique...the time it takes to get it off could be timed with a sundial....and will get severl blocked again this yr...had way too many close calls last year...and also some blocked ...one of which was in playoffs was it not...teams are on to his set up and know how to attack it..I see several blocks this yr...

I could be wrong, but I believe those words came directly from Derek Taylor, who I wouldn't call lazy.  To his credit I believe he listens to fans and has improved the format of the Coach's Show, condensing the commercial breaks and also cutting down on the Foster Brooks call in feature.

You guys are nuts with your OShea guys.

I don't love Sheahan but the rookie didn't show well in the second preseason game and got asked to join the PR which he refused.  This isn't some big conspiracy.

Averages aren't everything. Evans was hitting angles, he wasn't suddenly shanking punts. Also, in the first game Evans averaged 53.5 to Sheahans 43.

I would've gone with Evans, but I get PRing him. I understand that we can't force him and that he left for a chance to actually play. That alone, should tell you all you need to know though. The riders wouldn't have been scooping sheahan.

The Riders are desperate for a punter having cycled through a few guys already in camp.

I would love for Evans to completely dominated and been kept on, but he didn't.

He was better than Sheahan and had the potential to get better. That, for me would be good enough to kick Sheahan  out. And Sheahan would likely have wound up in Regina.

3DN articles are fill-in-the-team madlibs.  Their postgame stories are always "<pithy quote> and <number> other takeaways from <game>".  Cut reports are  "<team> cuts <number of cuts> including <highest profile cuts>" followed up by "why did <highest profile cut> get cut from <team>?" stories.  And Myron Mitchell was our <highest profile cut> answer.
