CFL - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

the stamps 2 victories were meaningless   ... I  still think they fight with the Riders for the basement

toronto has enough talent to still win without a QB: special teams + decent D

3DN suggesting if Hervey is the new GM, Rick Campbell could be their next HC.  Geroy could eventually find his way back to BC, as could Jarious Jackson.

People seem to forget the 2019 version of Streveler. He played qb then. And did just fine.

You can argue that he hasnt progressed, and that might be true, but it's just as true that he hasn't been given an opportunity to either. It's a chicken and egg scenario imo.

I dont want to write him off, but age is becoming a factor now.

Do you not think that if he could throw that he'd be not be given the chance? What coach in the CFL limits his qbs to be primarily runners if they can actually throw? Buck would then be the first.

My proof is what he's done when give  a full playbook and multiple NFL opportunities as a quarterback.  Where is your proof other than  "I don't like his throwing motion"

What has he done? He never did much when given that chance. His athletic ability & toughness kept him on NFL rosters. Not his ability to carve up defenses with his arm in the NFL.

Besides Jackson, that sounds like musical chairs of mediocrity.

Campbell is still under contract for next year with BC so unless the Lions make a big change (Campbell is also co-GM), that's unlikely to happen.

Doesn’t seem like lots of openings for a guy like Buck unless Calgary where he’s Dave’s ***** but. Yeah options appear to be limited

Quite honestly I’m not sure there should be an opening for Buck. He’s underwhelmed.

Jordan Younger might have a HC opportunity before Buck ever does, don't know if he ever crossed paths with Hervey as they both played for Edmonton, but maybe not at the same time.

I think Ottawa is a sleeper pick. Love dyce but that semi final is fire worthy. Buck has a good established relationship with brown.
I could see coach O and Hamilton going separate ways too.
It’s a real low chance, but bc could fire maksymic, and offer buck more money to make a lateral move to be oc/ast hc.

If he retires, I’d go after Masoli for the coaching staff. Ideally as a qb coach. He has been part of some tremendous coaching lineages up here and down south.

Second half of the season, really.

But, they went the Bomber OC before and that did not work out. Why not go after Calvillo?

True. eh, that happens to every team. I don’t think stuff like that from years back really plays a factor.
Calvillo would be a great pick, idk if he will want to leave mtl just now. Took a while for him to get to this point being a really good oc. Plus he’s at home.

If you can not grasp this concept I have no more to say. Nor do I care to try and convince you of basic general kindness. The world moves on without you eventually.

Ahhh yes, the vocal minority looking for their time on the podium of the victim olympics. Fear not, tho...you have assured me of your virtue so your legacy is secured. But yes, lets ban every word found offensive by anyone, anywhere. Sounds like a solid plan.

Rourke is a talented QB, he should eventually get to a GC game, but it might be a "Mike Reilly like" journey were it takes over 5 years and a different coaching staff to get him there.  Same is true for most CFL QB's that stay in one place long enough for a competitive team to be built around them.

Tough to build a winning team around him though with that albatross of a contract he has.

just like when they paid Reilly and couldnt afford to pay to protect him....or give him much more than Burnham and he got beat to a bloody pulp

They couldn't even afford to pay Reilly!  He had to file a grievance against them before they re-worked his contract less than a year after signing him to a massive deal.  You would think they'd have learned something since then but it would appear that is not the case.

Was that under David Braley?  I doubt they didn't have the money to pay him but were probably scared to go way over the cap and lose a draft pick.  Times have changed in BC, no fear.

It was before Doman took over but after Braley died.  Whether they had the money or not, they weren't paying Reilly what he was owed in his contract so he filed a grievance.

Simply put Rourke IS NOT worth the contract he has today..........

Time will tell if he is what we saw this year or what we saw two years ago

I also agree with Booch, Betts was virtually a non factor.....and one step further I would also consider Covington mostly a miss.....

Taking emotion out of the equation, BC got a terrible return on investment with both Rourke and Betts for this season, and it would appear it is compounded by fines and potential draft pick losses.........very poor financial choices were made out on the West coast.......
