Mosaic Field (IGF West)

First time getting to see New Mosaic in person. First impression was a nice stadium. But like ours has its flaws.

The concourses seem wider than IGF but I hate that you can’t see the field from them and they are still very packed. I like the open concept at IGF and being able to see what’s going on pretty much anywhere you stand. Long lines for food and drinks but bathrooms weren’t that bad.

I like the closed in North side as it gives it a nice look. We sat in about 4 different sections throughout the game as lots of open seats. The upper 500s were windy and cold but down in the 120s and 140s the wind didn’t seem to be there at all. I don’t like all of the wierd seats with like 2,3or4 seats in a row. They just sort of looked like they stuck seats wherever they could.

The roof line from inside looks nicer than outside and in talking to one of the rider fans he said it was built to eventually be closed in. Which I highly doubt. We have heard rumours they would close in IGF as well but it’s never going to happen.

The crowd noise was nowhere near IGF. I get that it was a 60/40ish Toronto crowd (mainly Rider fans) but when the crowd got loud it sounded muted. Not sure if it’s the material on the roof or just how it’s designed. But IGF is way louder even at half capacity.

I hate the no backpack policy and only having stuff in clear bags. We had to bag check over at the Brandt Center which was a bit of a walk from the gate we wanted to enter. And no metal detectors?? At least there were none at the gate we eventually went through which was next to the tailgate area. That was really odd. At the end of the game we left the same gate over to the Brandt Center and then couldn’t get all across the street from there. We had to walk all the way around the stadium again and the crowds were packed trying to make it through. I guess this is where the bus pick up is? IGF seems to have really figured out getting people in and out of the stadium with ease.

All in all a nice venue and would definitely go back. It’s nice having two beautiful stadiums in the CFL. We need more of them!

  • I'll post it here because it seems like the appropriate thread for it: Someone with computer-art skills needs to put a Riders logo on @Bubba Zanetti's "Sad Sack" picture post from yesterday.

So...from Virden? 😀

Virden now has a Popeye's. Good times, good times. The nightlife in that town rivals Regina.

Virden doesn't, actually.  Brandon does.  Virden has Chicken Chef, which is miles better than Popeyes.  A few years ago, Virden finally got a Boston Pizza.  Heady days, those were...

Wrong thread - but a well run Chicken Chef is a great place to eat

Isn't that a contradiction?

Boston Pizza was founded by other people and Jim bought it off of them later on.

No. Read Jim's book. He was a cop stationed in Northern BC, teamed up with a local pizza owner and founded BP

As per wikipedia and what Jim has said when he was on Dragon's Den...

Quote

Boston Pizza began in Edmonton, Alberta, on August 12, 1964, when four Greek immigrants, Trifon, Gus, Perry, and Ninos Agioritis opened Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House. By 1970, Boston Pizza had 17 locations in Western Canada, 15 of which were franchised.

One of the first franchisees was Jim Treliving, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer who lived down the street from the original location and was a regular customer.[1] In 1968, he noticed the growing popularity of Boston Pizza and purchased the rights to open a restaurant in Penticton, British Columbia. While in Penticton, he met George Melville, a chartered accountant. He acted as Treliving's business consultant for four years, and, in 1973, became Treliving's business partner. Over 10 years, they opened 16 restaurants in British Columbia.

Yes that is what it says but there's way more context.

But they were entirely different. Just read the book

Once again on the official Boston Pizza web site they say the opposite of what you are saying.   Also tonnes of videos of him saying that he was a franchisee and eventually bought the company out later on.

I remember in the 70's there were a few scattered B.P. in Wpg. that disappeared shortly after they opened, the last one standing was on North Main in W. Kildonan and it wasn't doing well.  I think Treliving probably bought the rights to the name in bankruptcy and rebuilt the franchise from scratch.

What in the actual **** is going on.....

The Trifon Agoritios in the wiki article actual went on to own several pizza places in Saskatchewan called Trifions. One of my favourite pizza places when I lived in Regina. Also had good greek wings.

BPs used to be an ok place for easy inoffensive food to take a family but I have found the "quality" is way down in recent years and the price is just always up and up and up.

Seriously though, BP is an over priced restaurant with shitty food. Never liked the place.

You don't like frozen dough and most of the dishes being flash frozen and heated up and then paying a premium price?

We only go to BP because of the kids and when they have the free kids meals deals... but even with the kids for free it's super pricey.  The larger pizzas are priced at 30 - 40 dollars when Dominos is basically selling the same thing for 10 dollars.   I much prefer going to the local eateries where it's cheaper and actually freshly made.

I will point out that Boston Pizza is ranked as one of the top 5 restaurants in Virden.

Does Virden only have 5 restaurants?
