  • I liked the part where @SpeedFlex27 quoted himself so he could regale us with his illustrious curling memoir.

  • Whether he comes back to Winnipeg or not, Strev will be a Bombers legend for life, after that playoff run (and all he did within it) and the post championship celebration... Afaic, he is a Bomber for

Yep. I'm pretty sure he will end up on some ones PR this year. He should.

yeah you would think....If not for anything a few weeks here....or there

That being said...Undrafted Canadian.....Canadian School.....he definitely behind the 8-Ball as dumb as that is...the NFL political narrative and how/who/what they value at times over actual talent and potential is baffling to say the least

I hope he gets to stick somewhere for a bit of an extended time...learn...and grow a bit and hopefully next yr decides to come north more polished and readu for a TC here where he actually can compete and not be learning/adapting

In all honesty down there he is not gonna amount to anything...let alone get a real shot to more than a PR guy...maybe get the odd game here or there as a 3rd string clip board carrier

It honestly wouldn't shock me if he didn't land on the Packers PR or went unclaimed.

The NFL is all about shitty politics, optics and what sort of draft capital an organization spent on you.  You'll see guys who never amounted to anything get chance after chance because they were once a former 1st or 2nd round pick (or worse if they had measurables that teams covet).  An undrafted Canadian QB from a Canadian school is facing a tough, uphill climb.

I *genuinely* hope he gets a chance to stick down south for a bit.  Selfishly, I hope we see him up here sooner than later.

Both true. The NFL for all it's growth in the past 20 years is still extremely prone when it comes to getting in it's own way. Not as bad as baseball but pretty bad.

Elgersma was given a shot BUT the ol 'he's Canadian and not american' obviously ate him up...He might see a PR but will probably wash out in the sea of American qbs who are always viewed as the star signing, simply because of their birthplace...He could eventually make someone elses pr down there, but the same situation could easily arise as what he saw in Green Bay....I hope he makes it BUT failing that I'd sure like to see him up here where he will be given a fair shake...Hope springs eternal

He could still end up on GB pr, probably likely

He'll end up on Green Bay's PR.

I’m really on the fence as to whether or not he’ll end up on their PR. I hope he does, I think that’s better for him and us long term but I’m not convinced. Clifford knows the system, that counts for a lot. He’s a draft pick from the current front office, that counts for a lot. There’s a lot of QBs that the Packers may be more interested in than either of them too - Hendon Hooker (even though he looks terrible) had a top 30 visit with this Packers FO and just hit the wire.

I dont know. Clifford went from Love's backup, to 3rd stringer last season and was completely outplayed this pre-season by a raw rookie who is 4 years younger. He's regressed. I think Elgersma is the choice.

Yeah it's interesting how they would rate Clifford.  His preseason numbers are progressively worse and atrocious this season.  But they track so many reps the guys get in OTA and training camp.

Packers cut Clifford too.

Yeah they were only going to carry 2 QB's on the AR so both Clifford & Elgersma were going to be cut - just a matter of which one of them will be kept on the PR.

Could be neither too as already mentioned.  They traded for Willis last year after Clifford wasn't cutting it as #2 so they aren't adverse to bringing in someone from the outside if needed,

yup

And or they PR one of them only to cut em loose a week or 2 later after they grab someone else....

Really ?? with all the political crap that goes on down there.....no surprise

He looked really poised and professional in his appearances, it would be great to get him here this season if he doesn't catch on to anyone else's PR

not me....I expected it....now does he wait around hoping another team wants to work him out as a project...an maybe PR him...basically spend the yr hoping

yup...polotics....invested capitol....time and money to invest with the chance he "may" amount to a 2nd stringer....not worth many teams time...cap space and effort

If he was an American kid...played American ball...and attended a Div 1 school...may get more rope

Elgersma is not being retained on the Packers PR per Packers beat reporter Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated.

In addition, Elgersma also went unclaimed on waivers by the 31 other clubs.

I feel for the kid. He looked outstanding. I think he has a bright future. Whether it’s in the NFL or here in the CFL. Selfishly obviously I’d like to see him in blue and gold but I would have loved to see him make an NFL roster this year and continue to learn from guys like Jordan Love and Matt Lafleur.

Jesus... Nobody wanted anything to do with him. That seems wild. I can't imagine us cutting any of the guys we've had here all year just to make room for him, but I guess you never know...

Cap space?  lol

Elgersma is basically the prototype, tested off the charts at the couple senior showcases and senior bowl.  Arguably best overall ability of the QB's in the 2025 class.  Look at the mess in Tennessee with the #1 pick.  If you want a guy to mold into a franchise QB he's got all the attributes without the bad habits that need to be coached out from playing in a shitty NCAA spread system.  Perfect guy to run pro style, west coast concepts.

Yeah they probably worry about his experience level, but lots to work with there.  Guy who was a multiple sport athlete and didn't commit fully to football until Grade 11/12....which is also the basic plot line of arguably the two greatest QB's in the modern era, although they were baseball players not hockey.  Neither one of those guys (Brady and Mahomes) were 5 star recruits.  Who cares if a guy went to Miami or Texas if he has no velocity or accuracy, can't make throws on time, can't adjust and make plays if they get off schedule?

All to say, I don't expect to see Elgersma up here until 2027 or 2028 at earliest and more likely never.

I don't really see him coming up soon.  He has no path to playing time here this season, he'd probably have to force a trade but there's really nowhere other than Montreal who needs a QB immediately where he might get any playing time.  The only reason for him to come up would be to play and set himself up for another NFL shot.  Standing on the sideline here doesn't make much sense.
