  • What great news to wake up to! We're getting the band back together. The Jeff-ends and Kongbo? I can't wait to hear more about how great the Ti-Cats were.

Was really hoping that we might might see that WR (....The former Esks guy that we signed and then he decided to retire.......drawing a blank....) come back now that the league is committed to playing. Fingers still crossed that he has a change of heart...

I disagree. I don't blame him for doing what he needed to do. But at the same time, he quit. AND FA WR just don't work out for us. Let's get Bailey and Lawler more involved!!

We might see him yet. If not, the NFL returnees may provide some better value then normal.

Bombers sign receiver Darvin Adams to a three-year extension - Winnipeg Blue Bombers

ok BIG NAME free agent WR don't work out for us. Adams hadn't made a big name for himself when he signed here....and yeah ok Dressler...so he worked out pretty well too....but after those two!

He didn't quit. He retired. He never left us in the lurch mid season. He did it the right way before the season started. When every other Bomber starter calls it a day on his career are you going to say they quit as well? Did Chris Walby quit? Lyle Bauer? James West? Tyrone Jones?

So much for the Malik Boynton redemption tour. Even with 3 DB's being released we still list 24 on our current roster lol. Talk about a competition.

Yes

They can't quit if they're not playing. You quit something when you don't finish it.

You mean like signing a contract and then never playing a game?

Players don't get paid in the off season. So he wasn't playing. He got a bonus for signing but was going to return it.

I know signing big-name players hasn't always worked out for us in the past, but when the team brought in Dressler on O and Chris Randle on D, it really seemed to be a turning point for the organization. Although neither were around to see the team through to a Grey Cup, they helped lay the building blocks to bring in other guys and help build team unity.

As for big name receivers - I'd rather blue collar guys like Adams who get after it and block downfield, way more important to our style of offense.

I was really expecting big things from Mitchell with this years offence.   His retirement was very disappointing, but I respect his decision given the uncertainty of things at the time.  I just think he would have made this receiving corp one of the best in the CFL.

WINNIPEG, MB., June 21, 2021 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce today the addition of Darrell Patterson to the 2021 coaching staff as the new defensive line coach.

A Blue Bombers alumnus, Patterson played for the club from 1984-87 and was a member of the 1984 Grey Cup championship team. He brings extensive coaching experience to the Bombers staff, having most recently served as an assistant coach/defensive analyst with TCU from 2018-2020 following a long run with the Rice Owls from 2007-17.

Patterson worked with the Rice linebackers for eight years and in his last six years with the program was also the assistant head coach. In addition, he spent seven years as the Rice special-teams coordinator and four as the run-game coordinator.

With his connections to Canada, Patterson led the school’s recruiting efforts in this country and helped Rice land eight Canadians over a nine-year span, including long-time NFL tight end Luke Wilson and defensive end Christian Covington as well as offensive linemen Scott Mitchell and Peter Godber.

Prior to his days at Rice, Patterson worked at Stanford University (2005-07), Southern Methodist (2003-04), Baylor (2002), Arkansas State (2001), Kentucky (1997-00), Temple (1995-96), Akron (1992-94). He began his coaching career as an intern with the B.C. Lions in 1991.

A standout linebacker at TCU during his playing days from 1979-82, Patterson is a member of the school’s Hall of Fame and remains the school’s all-time leader in tackles. He was selected by the New York Giants in the sixth round, 151st overall, of the 1983 NFL Draft and first made his way north to Winnipeg and the Blue Bombers in 1984. He would suit up for 49 regular-season games with the Bombers from 1984-87 before moving on to the Ottawa Rough Riders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. His best season statistically came in 1987, when he finished with eight sacks, behind only Blue Bomber hall of famers Tyrone Jones and Mike Gray.

It's a tremendous pick up for the coaching staff. We are loaded with front 7 talent that can benefit from his wealth of knowledge and  coaching

I agree. Patterson has huge shoes to fill though.  Glen Young was an oustanding front 7 coach for us.
