Saskatchewan @ Toronto

CFL.ca Staff Game Notes

Lose and you go home...

*Since 1961 (when inter-Division play began) Saskatchewan actually holds an edge playing in Toronto – 26 wins to 21.

(By comparison in Eastern road games, the Riders are 14-24 at Montreal and 18-26 at Hamilton)

*This game pits the CFL’s two best first down teams – Toronto averaged 7.00 yards per play and Saskatchewan was at 6.96.

*One key 2017 difference was in QB Sacks Made – Toronto is tied at #1 with 50, Saskatchewan ranked #8 with 27.

*Saskatchewan swept Toronto in their two-game series in 2017 and have now won the last three times they have played the Argos.

*Saskatchewan won both 2017 meetings despite trailing by deficits of 10 points (Jul 29/17) and 13 points (Oct 7/17).(Saskatchewan outscored Toronto by a combined 38 to 18 in the second half and won after trailing each game at half-time)

*The second half comebacks were led first by Kevin Glenn (Jul 29th) and then on Oct 7th by Brandon Bridge. (Oct 7th: Bridge threw for 292 yards and two TDs off the bench leading five scoring drives in his seven possessions at QB)

*Ricky Ray threw for 300+ yards in both games with five TD passes and 74 per cent completion mark.

*James Wilder was held to 107 yards rushing on 24 carries; the Riders are the last team to keep him under 100 yards.

*Duron Carter had games of 131 & 71 yards with two TD catches and five going for clutch second down conversions.

*S.J. Green had games of 68 & 76 yards with two TD catches and five second down conversions on just 14 total targets.

*FG perfection: Tyler Crapigna made all seven of his FG attempts while Lirim Hajrullahu went five-for-five on his tries.

*Bakari Grant added 200 receiving yards on 12 catches – the most yards he had against any opponent in 2017.

?‍?But for all that, I’m saying it’s Jones vs Trestman, and may the best man win...

  • Not sure why you want to harp on Bluto so hard about this.  As far as fans from other teams posting here, Bluto has always been one of the better ones and any back and forth has been IMO friendly bant

A few years ago I was in a small sports store in Glendale, Arizona. Some dude walked in and asked the guy working there where all their Saskatchewan Roughriders stuff was. I said "The Riders suck. Eve

  • Funny story: at work we keep the lobby television on the local 24 hour news station. Been that way for years. Now, I've heard the occasional Argo score announced on there... I've seen the cheerleaders

From worst in the league last year, to the Grey Cup....

East Division...someone gets to go to the Grey Cup.

What an epic collapse by the Riders when it mattered most. Wow. Thats just so the Rider way.. Get your hopes up and then crush them.. Not my hopes tho.

What a bunch of undisciplined fools tho.

Another tortured off season for Rider faithful. Hee, hee, hee.

I wish they would have had a camera at a bar in Regina.... the highs and the lows would have been something to see!

Congrats Bluto!

Allways good when the riders lose. But lets have a bit more class then their fans do. Especially since we were a much better regular season team and didnt go as far.

Different circumstances. We were better but had the tougher road to the final.. My guess is if we crossed over we would be Ottawa bound.

What do I see in Brandon Bridge? Another Jonathan Jennings. Hasn't won a thing yet he's anointed by the Talking Heads at TSN as the Next Big Thing. We all know the hard ons those guys had for Jennings all year even when he played terrible.

BMO is a great stadium when ppl show up.

Absolutely agree 100%! The GC there last year was a blast!

Was that the play or Carter trying too hard?

According to the all knowing Rod Black - it was because they were in the middle of the field and couldn't get out of bounds.

Ive had this crazy feeling TO would end up winning the cup since the bombers lost idk. An easier road? In theory yes. In practice no. See history of the cross over team and what happened to the riders. We didnt play well enough to win a play off game. The only thing that changes that is playing better.

Bridge could be a star in this league but TSN should wait until he actually shows he can win as a starter. Certainly today he didn't look good until late in the 4th quarter. I think the Argos took the foot off the pedal thinking the game was won.

Which doesn’t really make sense because as long as they fall before :00 they get another play.

On that one sack in the 3rd... Almost 4th.. He escaped then turned around right in to an argo player.. In hockey they call it hockey iq.. U either got it or you dont... On that play by Bridge i realized he has zero football IQ.

Alright, I'll bite... sure they got further than us, but I would argue we also were eliminated by a much better team, whilst they played the Redblacks to get where they were, we played the Eskies. As for showing class, respect is earned, not given... I understand your logic of taking the high road, but these idiots had anointed their team as holier-than-thou and destined to win the Grey Cup despite their undisciplined play throughout the season. Not only that, they got absolutely stomped in the season finale by the same team that eliminated us. Misery loves company Rider fans!

The better team in the play offs, is the one that wins. That simple.

Respect is earned, class is learned. Its not a point of the rider fans earning our respect. That wont ever happen. Its a matter of us being better then what we point fingers at rather then dropping to that level.
