Looking Ahead: Toronto Vs Winnipeg

Ok the loss to Calgary at home sucked, but shouldn't be all that shocking. The way we played however was but games done, were still 1-1 and now we face the Argos, who I picked to be #1 in the east in the prognostication thread(s) in the offseason.

So what's it going to take to beat them?

We are going to need to shut down SJ Green first and foremost. I thought the last few games we've done a reasonably well job shutting down the opposing team's top threats;

example: Marquay McDaniel: 46 yards 0 TDs,  DaVaris Daniels: 39 yards 0 TDs

Duron Carter: 69 yard 0 TD, Naaman Roosevelt:  59 yards 1 TD

The problem we've been seeing is opposing teams 3rd or 4th options lighting us up like Nic Demski, Caleb Holley, Kamar Jorden. that needs to stop.

If we were to move Roc Carmichael to LB in the wake of potentially losing Wild for any amount of significant time,  who would fill that role at HB? I'm not totally opposed to the thought of bringing back Frederick at this point, it can't get any worse then playing roc back there,  can it?

I think for morale reasons the bombers need a bounce back game here.  Even if we lose it's not the end of the world. Our season last year was looking like sweet ass until about week 6 when we destroyed the ticats, so plenty of time. But we need to show last game was just a bad outing for the team, and not the norm.

  • CFL GAME NOTES ….The 2017 season has been remarkable in that each team has started their #1 QB in EVERY game. -To date only John White (EDM: 104 yards on June 24th) has a 100-yard game.

  • It roughly translates to 'I can't believe we haven't won a grey cup since 1990.'

  • He needs at least 15 to 20 touches per game! Let's get it going.

Probably more precautionary than anything. Can be pulled off at any time.

Yeah just roster shuffling.

I see Posy and Fuller out for Argo's so hopefully we mix some zones in to help in coverage with Roc and focus on eliminating Green as it leaves the Argo's a little thin receiver wise and we should be able to stiffle Ray and limit a lot of the over the top throws

1. Do we not have anybody else to try at returner other than Lankford?

2. Do we not have anybody else to try at HB other than Roc?

If they don't play the majority of defensive plays zone coverage I'll be very concerned about Halls ability to call defence moving forward. Ray has struggled against zone this year.

How is Nicholl's pass blocking going to be? The Argo front 4 have been imperious so far... I see this as a key.

The online has been excellent on four man rush. Having a tough time picking up the blitz though.

True story. Bombers' O-line will need to return to 2016 form to give him the best chance.

True, but that Victor guy is a different beast altogether... Mad Props to the Argos for uncovering that gem.

Use "uncovering" lightly, he was a starter for the cowboys for a few years. Good on them for recognizing his skills fit the CFL though.

I don't know why so many people thing playing Leggett at HB is the answer to all our defensive problems... he has ONLY played safety and SAM in his time here and has excelled at both spots... would he be a good HB? maybe... but we have absolutely no evidence of that...

eggzackary.  its not a given that because he is an exceptional SAM, that he will be a very good or even good DB.   its a different animal all together and often the slower and less talented DBs end up being bumped to SAM.

lets just not assume hes capable of being a DB and also not mess with how our linebackers are.. its going thru an upheaval already with Wild out.. no need to complicate it worse.

I hate Lankford so much.

Hate is a strong word ;)...

I commented after game 1... and still feel this way... I really wish the team would dress Flanders and find a way to get him involved in the game... IMO, the kind of difference he would make to our offense greatly outweighs the minimal impact Lankford has on teams...

Carmichael made the team basically playing SAM in Leggett's place. Like you said less talented DBs end up as SAM,  which is likely where Carmichael should be and should have stayed.  Leggett at least has experience in the secondary (albeit at S) but I would think he could also play HB, or at least should be given an opportunity given the results we've gotten from the Roc so far

yea but don't we have depth DB's that could be used in place of Roc before messing up our current defense more so then needed?   I mean if O'shea still believes in Roc... ok keep him in there and lets hope for the best BUT i sure don't and hope that hes considering letting someone else take a crack at the job..

Maybe its been nerves and he has been out-thinking himself.. If he gets one more game to prove himself, I'd be ok with it as long as it doesn't cost us a game again.

If they could keep 4 Natls. on the field D side, it would allow them the flexibility to play Flanders in place of JFG, then they could go with two RB sets or rotate in Lankford or Harris at the receiver spot, I like the dynamic possibilities.

As far as I know he has never played any position on the oline.

That would only happen if he was picked up by the Riders.

Could of been a Barker neg list guy too

Littlest Ralph brother is starting. Nik Lewis says he might be the most talented of the three.

Been hearing that since he was playing high school ball...curious to see if true.

Looked like he hurt his shoulder during the last game. I was hoping it was nothing.

Okpalaugo wasn't as impressive in his first two games as I had hoped. Maybe Jeffcoat will step up.

Okpalaugo has not been his old self since joining us, that's for sure...Maybe he's been nic'd for longer than we know and this latest one has put him on the shelf for awhile...Also want to see what Jeffcoat can do...We need guys like him to step up...
