SASKATCHEWAN @ MONTREAL

Game Day notes - Saskatchewan at Montreal

Only four clubs - BC, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto - appear to be starting the same QB in Week #1 in 2017 as they did in 2016 (Jennings, Mitchell, Reilly & Ray)

The average CFL player enters 2017 at 27.4 years of age and carries 2.9 years, and 38 career games with 23 starts

The average CFL veteran Quarterback carries much more experience at 29 years of age, 71 games played and 5.0 seasons

Calgary has by far the most veterans returning with 51 on their roster and just nine first-year players.

- Ottawa has the roster with the fewest first-year players with just seven out of their 51 in total.

- Saskatchewan's roster has only 29 players returning from 2016 with 14 free agent from other clubs and 12 first-year players.

- The Argonauts are in the same 'boat' with only 28 of their own back alongside 31 new players (free agents and rookies).

  • Winnipeg's growth is starting to show as they have 35 of their own vets back and just 16 new players (7 F/A's, 9 first-year).

Among the 18 players selected in the first two rounds in 2017, 14 of those players (78%) made it onto CFL rosters.

The West returned to dominate the inter-divisional play winning 28 of 39 games (one was tied), the most by one Division over the other in a 9-team CFL since 1993 (29 wins out of 40 games that year)

Game Stats

have added the following new "stats" and/or reports (with some definition):

1) QB Pressure

Defined: "Credited to a defender who either forces the QB to move off his initial drop back point to avoid contact, contacts the QB in the act of throwing, or has the QB in his grasp at the time an Intentional Grounding penalty is called"

Reporting: Compiled by defensive player and for QBs in terms of the number of times pressured.

2) Dropped passes

Treatment: Entered as a note into each play-by-play and for those plays where the drop is clear and uncontested. Reporting: Compiled for QBs in terms of the number of passes dropped; Receiver reporting to be primarily internal

3) Individual 2nd Down Conversion Defence

Defined: Defensive plays made that result in a failed opponent 2nd down conversion via: Tackles, QB Sacks, Pass knockdowns, Forced fumbles, Interception or fumble recovery.

Reporting: Compiled for all defensive players and league leaders reported the same as other defensive statistics.

4) Play-by-play entries and other reporting

Reporting: Printed play-by-plays will be much more explicit showing for example split yardage (Total, YAC portion) along with receiver depth for all pass attempts including incompletions. Play-by-plays will also include more "tags", notations for special plays such as Fake kicks, Challenges, Two-point converts and more. We have created an immediate post-game summary of key data that has in the past been unavailable until the following week. This will include much more in-depth breakdowns of many key pieces of game data.

A lot of classy Rider fans telling Durant to go f*** himself on the rider board. Not a great way to treat a guy who won you a Grey Cup and layed it on the line night in and night out. The loss looks g

  • If they are focused on Winnipeg this week, they might be in for a surprise when it's Montreal lined up against them.

Scary, maybe not.... but many are predicting them to finish last in the east and maybe the league... but when I look at that roster that's not what I see.

However coaching is a big wildcard in Montreal.

I agree that Montreal will be better than last. Ottawa is going to suffer without Burris. Toronto will be better because of coaching, until Ray gets hurt again. Hamilton will be ok until Collaros goes down. The East is a toss up, impossible to say who will be last. The Key to Montreal will be the OLine, if they can DD time they will do ok.  From what I've seen of DD that last couple years, without time he struggled a lot. Some might say moderately successful. If the Riders get after him tonight, we win. 5 sacks for us today on route to a victory.

QB pressure is almost always mentioned as being the key to victory.  However, if a D is giving up too much in coverage in order to generate pressure, that spells trouble.

We have to generate pressure just rushing 4. Muamba is the other key for us, he has to shut the run down, forcing Durant into passing situations. Durant doesn't like being rushed

Not sure tho your line will be able to get after him consistently.

Jefferson is for sure a stud, but he will be schemed against and it will minimize him, as well he will be going up against one of the best, if not the best O.T  Olifyioe...or however you spell it.

Steele was an...and stress was again average tackle who was dumped and nobody really wanted him, especially for $ he was asking so for all intents and purposes was a scrap heap pick-up

Minter too, big body, but not dominant plus very out of shape and will take plays off because he is gassed...watch for that tonight.

Also their rotational depth after that is weak and Montreal run game is gonna wear them down and the flood gates will burst.

Interesting that Underwood isn't starting. Backs up E-Jax tonight. Time to change my Lock...

Montreal doesn't look that bad on paper right now. I expect them to win more games than last year, but their Achilles heal is the health of Durant. I don't see him playing more than 10-12 games and then they are back to where they were last year... playing an inexperienced QB. Add in the fact that they aren't as good, personal wise, on defence as they were last year and I can see them losing most of the games that Durant can't play.

Could still be starting.  They only have 4 receiver spots on the depth chart but they will line up 5 pretty often I'm sure, and Underwood will be the guy.

Montreal is going to flirt with a .500 record, Sask...... .667

You think Regina will win 12 games? Did your account get hacked?

Letting Woods go will show to be a big mistake. He covered up a lot of warts on that defense. Now they are just old. They will not be the force they have been in the past.

I knew you were too smart for that. I figured maybe you meant 2/3 of a game.

I think you are wrong about Steele and Minter. I'm surprised no love for a hometown boy. Riders front 4 are going to be good this year. I don't like Leonard and think Tull will take the job quickly from him as the starter

I took Durant and Ernest Jackson on my draft kings team. I fully expect to see a focused Darian Durant put up big numbers against his former team.

You should have taken Tyrell Sutton.  That's where the Als will win; they will run all over the Riders.

Durant will have an average evening.  1 maybe 2 passing TD's

Of course you do, you're a blind homer who can't accept the fact that your team is a circus and that Chris Jones isn't the saviour everyone thought he was.

We won't be playing our backups today

I'm enjoying reading the comments about how bad we are from you guys. It will make for good reading next week when you come here and keep your butts kicked.

No, you'll be playing Jovon Johnson and other cast offs.

Likewise we are enjoying your comments and we only have to wait another 8 hours or so until the Riders are getting stomped.

Will you enjoy it after Durant kicks the Riders asses up and down the field tonight? Or will you slink away and hide in your hole until something positive happens?

I haven't said anything over the top. I'll take my lumps if we lose.
