Bombers Training Camp 2017 - May 28

RHÉANNE M.

WINNIPEG, MB., May 11, 2017 –  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has invited Winnipeg Rifles wide receivers Xander Tachinski (#73) and Brendan Naujoks (#74), running back Michael Ritchott (#76), and defensive back Andrew Ricard (#77) to take part in the club’s three-day rookie camp commencing Wednesday, May 24. The players will continue with the team through the first part of the main training camp.

Tachinski and Ritchott attended part of last season’s rookie camp, and most recently played in their third and fourth years with the Rifles, respectively. Naujoks and Ricard have both spent three seasons with the Rifles.

“The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have continued to try to invest in the growth of younger football players within Manitoba,” said General Manager Kyle Walters. “This will be a great experience for all of them to be on the field with professional players, and to continue to grow as athletes.”

Quarterbacks and CFL newcomers will report to Winnipeg and will be on the field for the opening of rookie camp on Wednesday, May 24th. Veterans report on May 26th and will begin practicing on May 28th.

The Blue Bombers will play two pre-season games:  June 10th at Mosaic Stadium in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and June 15th at Investors Group Field against the Edmonton Eskimos.

MOS is almost going on 4 years, considering his record in the first 2 seasons, that's miraculous.

Not considering the team he had to work with...  miraculous would have been having a better record...

I was surprised rookie camp is so short  ... teaching opportunity

Wondering why ... new rules, budget, taking it easy on staff , or ....

Rookie camp has been only 3 days for as long as I can remember.  I think it is regulated by the league and/or CFLPA.

I preferred the Swedish equivalent during those dark times.

He had a lot of help also though ...

You're right. It was a collective bed-crapping but Kelly wearing the GM and HC hat put a lot of blame at his feet when he was shown the door.

Judging by the current state of affairs in Riderville I'd wager John Murphy also had a lot to do with the gongshow that was the 09 Bombers.

If I'm not mistaken... I believe Murphy was directly connected to the Pacman Jones debacle...

I believe so as well.

The same John Murphy who went on to help Hufnagel in Calgary...? I'm not sure about that. When given the opportunity, he seems to succeed.

I'd put more blame on Kelly and Jones, the GMs in charge - not an assistant whose forte is talent down south. I also have to wonder how much actual say Murphy is getting in Jonestown right now.

Yes maybe it is just a coincidence that he has found himself in a similar situation again.  Maybe not.

Or is it a case of Hufnagel kept him in line? I dunno seems to me that given his associations with a couple egomaniacs I would say that he's got some ego issues of his own but a guy as strong as Hufnagel keeps him in his place.

Interesting tid bit he said Waggoner graded out as the best special teams player last year.

Could be. I've rarely seen him speak and he seems pretty knowledgeable in terms of American talent, but I'm no sure how ego plays into how he operates. I think  Hufnagel knew how to maximize Murphy's talents and let him do his thing for the better of the Stampeders, an organization that never seems short on talent or depth. I have to think he learned a lot under Hufnagel, too.

We do know Jones is an egomaniac of pretty epic proportions, so I have to think Murphy is just told to tow the company line. It seems like Jones wants to take credit for everything, which leads me to believe everyone else has to be a yesman.

Clear evidence that it was Saskatchewan. I hear they got pressure from the network to not name the province, so they used code aka hillbillies.
