An ex-Rider getting even a modicum of respect after he leaves to a divisional rival means he must have played all right.

To be fair, the thread I read was prior to him signing with us... I'm sure their tune has changed now that he's with us!

Irvin is a 31 year old DT who was cut right after they signed a younger Cdn who the bombers were also trying for.  Age and roster space is the issue imo.

Except he was never cut by the Riders, he was a free agent after last season.

I'm not a big Corvey Irvin guy and I don't expect him to make the team, but one thing I figured is worth mentioning - just because a player doesn't get resigned by his previous team doesn't always mean that team didn't want him. Would your opinion of this signing change if you found out that (as an example) Irvin told Saskatchewan he had no interest in coming back to play for them?

That's a fair point...

Ah, got it.  Well still don't like the signing.  If Irvin is the one that decided to move on, he really needs a new agent.

My only question is... why Irvin instead of Bryan  Hall or Alan Michael Cash?

Money?  Injury concerns?  The fact that they'd have to win a job and likely wouldn't start on the game roster.

Especially Cash.....but that might be the problem.. 'cash'....he's a good one but wants a lot of it.

This guy has being our next Kuale or Romby written all over him.

irvin looks like a guy to come in and push the young guys, offer depth.

Or he comes into camp, provides competition, and makes the team if deemed worthy... or whatever spin you like to put on it :D

....or he pulls a Vince Young..

He sounds like a good guy but still sounds like training camp fodder.

So do we trade down our first draft pick and take two players who are generic top tens in this years sweepsatkes ..... if so what would we actually want back in return: an extra draft pick or a specific veteran?

If we ever trade down, I dont want it lower than the Ti-Cats.

Say if we trade down with TiCats, I think #1-3 picks will be... Vandervoort, Woods & Gray. So we still have - Herdman, Bladek & Ankou on #4 as our choices.

Our #1 & #23 for TiCats's #4 & #13?

Edited by M.O.A.B.

We pick 1 and 6 right now.  I really don't see why we would trade down unless we acquired an additional pick.  Even then, I can't see how we don't benefit from having the first pick overall.  I remember all those years of not having a first round pick, and now we have two of them including the first overall.  It doesn't get better than that.

As a depth signing, I'd much rather see a new prospect than a journeyman like this in camp.

What's happening with Laing?  Is he out of the league until August trying NFL or what's going on....

Chasing the ever elusive NFL dream. Really good CFL player but there are a hundred guys down there as good or better than him.

Id rather trade down and get a first next year / year after rather then have 3 firsts in one year

If we're trading a pick, might as well try and get an active player from Montreal or Toronto...

6th for Ruby or maybe Foucault - if he's willing to sign for 120-140k?  Sure looks like they're going import at RT

Do we want a Canadian tackle?  I'm generally against paying a bunch more money to our tackle just to have a Canadian who may or may not be as good as Hardrick.  IMO priority one is keeping Nichols upright not filling the ratio on the OL... at this point we have enough good Canadian starters elsewhere.

Foucault is almost guaranteed an upgrade at RT... and probably a ratio changing RT in CFL for ten years.

As for Ruby, I'm more looking at him as a game ready backup if Hardrick goes down - guys still young, could be a gamechanger too.

I wouldn't even trade 15 for Ruby. He sucks.

Whats up with Foucault? Is he hoping for the NFL still? Dont like the Als? or is he hanging it up?

Is Foucault that good?  Can't say I really paid much attention to him while with the Panthers.  He started, but it was as an injury replacement and then he got released so I'm not sure that means much.
