US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Seeing how screwed up the US system seems to be with certain things, I assume this won't be easy to do unless his impeachment results in him being convicted in the Senate.

They stopped the briefings for Biden at Trump's request. I think it's pretty easy to remove the clearance, it's just not usually done. GOP will be crying but national security will demand it.

Biden could choose not to give any classified updates at his discretion, it more considered a courtesy to inform past Presidents, and since Trump rarely took in or understood any of his daily briefings I doubt he is any position to give away and classified material in the future

Again, here's hoping. Also hope the grifter buffoon doesn't take any photocopies on the way out.

It's a federal crime to share classified info.

First thing I would do, if I were Biden, would be to set up a sting to see how fast troop deployments ended up in the hands of Putin.

Will cut to the chase — “Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, has told associates that he believes President Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party, according to people familiar with his thinking. The House is voting on Wednesday to formally charge Mr. Trump with inciting violence against the country.”

Oh, good, someone's doing something that I'm too cowardly to do - Yertle the Turtle.

And, of course, he won't recall the Senate because he doesn't want to vote Trump out of power. Although, he could do it on January 19th and not worry too much about repercussions (from Trump).

Come on.  Trump only blindsided and double crossed him on the stimulus bill, making him a scapegoat for the MAGAbillies.  Then Mitch had to cower on the floor, then flee, as the Trump Insurrection stormed the Capitol Building.   And listen to Trump stating that his speech to that mob was "completely appropriate."

Liz Chaney has just announced she will vote to impeach Trump

Trump said Tuesday as he visited the southern border wall in Texas that, "The 25th Amendment is of zero risk to me, but will come back to haunt Joe Biden and the Biden administration." He added, "As the expression goes, be careful of what you wish for."

Earlier, as he left Washington for the town of Alamo, Texas, Trump took no responsibility for his part in fomenting the violence at the U.S. Capitol last week, despite his comments encouraging supporters to march on the Capitol and his praise for them while they were still carrying out the assault.

"People thought that what I said was totally appropriate," Trump said.

He added in his remarks this afternoon, "We believe in the rule of law, not in violence or rioting," a different tone from the message he sent his supporters last week when he told them he loves them and that they are special.

I am less convinced. Trump put McConnell in danger... this is a chance to remove a liability from the party. He might take it. Or maybe not. Who knows what the more evil option is.

If nothing else, McConnell runs a pretty tight ship there.   This didn't leak out accidentally.   No denial, at all,  from him about the Times story, either........

Republican members led 'reconnaissance’ tours of US Capitol one day

According to North Jersey, newly-elected lawmaker Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) revealed she personally witnessed Congressional members conducting "reconnaissance" tours through the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, Jan. 5, just one day before an angry pro-Trump mob stormed the federal building to hinder lawmakers' efforts to certify the electoral college vote.

In a video on Facebook live, Sherill explained her reasons for voting in support of Democrats' House resolution requesting Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment which would lead to immediate removal from office for President Donald Trump.

Sherill went on to criticize her Republican colleagues who "abetted" Trump's repeated, dangerous attempts to overturn the presidential election. She also touched on Trump's rhetoric and influence which, subsequently, led to a violent mob storming the federal building.
