US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

After last night's "debate", I figured we need some levity.

So typical of Trump.

Seeing lots of comments this morning about how both candidates acted like children... that seems like a win for Trump.  All he needs to do is sow chaos.

I don't what's more pathetic a President of the United States telling nazis to stand by and illegally interfere with voting or that almost half of voters will still vote for him.

Let's talk about getting a wall built and rooting out the nazis already in Canada.

“By my count, Trump interrupted former Vice President Joe Biden or debate moderator Chris Wallace at least 128 times. This number dwarfed the 51 times Trump interrupted Hillary Clinton during the first presidential debate in 2016. For his part, Biden interrupted dozens of times—at various points either trying to get a word in edgewise or correct flat lies by the president—but his interruptions were no match for Trump’s.”

Chris Wallace was horrible but that's to be expected. Fox got what they wanted, the big diapered president encouraging white supremacists, the Fox base.

So... let me get this straight...

The police unions from different cities are all endorsing trump.

Ttump refuses to condemn white supremists and actually call on them to be ready and stand by...

And we wonder why Black people don't trust the police...

In fairness to Wallace.....Trump was simply bent, bound and determined not to engage in anything resembling a actual debate.   Probably scared to do so.    His "answers" to direct questions were nothing but plenty of riffing, spinning, lying and a complete inability to stay on topic.

It's the moderators responsibility to moderate the debate. He did nothing.

David Corn Tweet:

To all those newspapers with headlines proclaiming the debate was chaotic and disorderly without tying that to Trump: If a man runs into a house, throws gasoline everywhere, and lights a match, the headline should be "Arsonist Attacks Home," not "Fire Breaks Out."

Canadian alt-right newspaper's view:

Tim Scott comes out as says that Trump misspoke and actually meant to say "Stand Back and Stand Down", Trump likes to talk and tweet, today so far nothing to support this, doesn't matter damage done

And tomorrow, Trump state plainly that he meant what he said and the talking heads will move onto something else, like Biden being too quiet or something else ridiculous.

Typical Trump supporter " I don't like him, the way he acts or like the way he talks but I'm still going to vote for him", unfortunately in the States atm you can't fix stupid.

too funny to not share

Next debate may go better.   Town Hall format with microphones (that could be shut off, by moderator)

Hopefully.

I would strongly argue that there’s no need, politically and rationally, for further debates.

Yes, they are obviously pointless but if they're going to continue at least get a moderator is not a mouthpiece of the alt-right and will actually moderate the debate.

Worst performance ever but he's still has 40% support in USA. That's murica!

And that's why we need to focus on our own national security. Fascism is on the rise and white supremacism is clearly here. We need to strengthen our national response to these terrorists and root them out before it spreads.

They exist in our police forces and our military. If we don't take it seriously now, we're likely to end up in a similar state as the US. They have control of the Post Media, the Rebel and other alt-right media orgs.

So basically what you had was Trump trying to hammer away on the same talking points he brings up every time he speaks and going with his tactic of just shouting over everyone and not letting anyone else speak. Attempt to drown out everything but your own message. Typical Trump stuff but it was particularly egregious in the parts I watched last night.

Biden needs to prepare for these more. He tried to discuss facts but you can't do that when Trump is just going to yell over everything you say, he didn't have the material to put him in his place and clearly didn't want to come across as an angry old man getting angry at the interruptions.

Basically the people who support Trump are going to think he was strong and owned the debate despite being a lunatic talking about lies and no policy at all.

For me Biden was the more capable debater despite some stumbles over words and brought up some good points however he was ill prepared for the circus that we all knew Trump was going to bring. For me the strategy is hammer on points Trump is weak to and not let him control the messaging. He touched a nerve a couple times with comments about him lying all the time and especially when Trumps lack of paying taxes came up however he never stuck to it and really got Trump off his tracks.

So yeah given the very low bar set for Trump he basically "won" because he didn't **** himself on stage.

Trump is not smart enough to debate. He doesn't understand policy, how it's formed, or how to execute it. Debates are a waste of time with him.
