US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

The only thing worse than Pruitt is the fact he wasnt fired and Trump had the gall to call him "Outstanding".  Yeeesh

why was Pruitt so bad?  I really liked the fact that he stood up to the unelected EPA power-grabbers, who were trying to take control of US society by designating CO2 a pollutant, which is just ridiculous. Obama just bent over for those guys which reaffirmed my belief that he was an extremely weak president.  I also supported the new administration pulling out of the Paris Accords, which was a terrible deal, even if you believe in the man-made climate change hypothesis.  It was a wealth-transfer plan, not a plan to mitigate CO2 emissions.

Ummmm.... you can google Pruitt and see the plethora of reasons why he had to go.

Plethora is an understatement

Here is a list of some of his controversies (compiled by CNN, so if you believe they are "fake news", it probably won't do anything to convince you):

https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/06/politics/scott-pruitt-controversies-list/index.html

But in the simplest terms, he is a self-admitted climate-change denier who once sued the EPA on behalf of the oil and gas industries. His beliefs are his, and he can advocate them, but imagine putting someone who has openly advocated for the total legalization of drugs, and fought in court against the laws the government has put in place, in charge of that same department enforcing those drug laws in our country as a prosecutor. Massive conflict of interest, and giving him the power to undercut those very laws with sweeping "policy" decisions that fit his personal agenda ("we choose not to prosecute those that use or sell drugs, even though that is our essential mandate") would undermine the very existence of the drug prosecutions agency. same idea with the EPA here.

Again, he can have his viewpoint, but then recognize that he has a conflict and turn down the position, do not go in with the intention of deregulating everything the department has in place and essentially destroying the entire agency from the inside. If Trump had such strong feelings against the EPA, campaign on the promise that he will shut down the agency altogether if elected and back out of every environmental accord the world has in place BEFORE he gets elected, not after.

he actually lobbied trump to be Attorney General.  Can you imagine?? hahahaha

It will be great to see the spin Trump puts on the meetings this week, while everyone laughs behind his back, how's that NK denuclearization going and have the Mexican's written that check for his beautiful wall, maybe he can throw some skittles at Merkel this time.

Speaking of which, where are the people trying to compare Obama/Cuba to Trump/NK.  Trump accomplished nothing other than to raise Kim's credibility.

Putin must be licking his chops as it sounds that the meeting between himself and Trump will only have translators in the room, Trump seems to think that the NK leader signed a contract to denuclearize and sent Pompeo to enforce it, poor guy just got the run around in North Korea this past week

See that ***** is trying to spin it that Germany is beholden to Russia, text book admission of guilt, I really hope he does get into a debate with Merkel because that lady is far smarter than Trump and will absolute skewer him with that uber serious German tone.

Trump is so obviously a tool of Putin.  Either unwittingly (because he admires dictators and cowers in their presence) or maliciously (because they own him due to blackmail).   Attacking Nato, ending war games near NK, creating racial divide in the US, minimizing and attacking US Intelligence.

Do the Trump supporters here really see this President as politics as usual or do they acknowledge that he's a Putin puppet?

Some times I have wondered..... if I have been too rough on right wing evangelists, in the past....

Ok, perhaps not.  Alright, most defiantly not.

Btw...... between coming from the mid-east, his appearance, claiming that his wife is a virgin, having a undocumented baby and sounding like a socialist.....Joseph might of had a pretty rough time at the border.....

All this worry about Trump's private meeting with Putin, is actually pretty unnecessary.   Trump just needs to remember to wipe his chin, after the meeting.

And they make Kelly look stupid

But I thought NK was solved.  What about the Nobel Peace Prize?

I think Nobel rules regarding Twitter rants excludes him from nominations.
