Sask is 0 - 8. B.C. is in turmoil and has the same record as us. Ottawa reminds me a LOT of us last year, great start but the real team is starting to emerge and IMO will not win more than two more games the rest of the way. Montreal is also in turmoil now that they have dumped Higgins and Popp has taken over, yet again.

I wouldn't go so far to say we are 'out of the playoffs' and I really don't think a 'Ricky Ray' would help us at all.

Lets just take a collective breath. Drew Willy is developing just fine. Look at what Collaros did after getting a concussion last year? Those six weeks off did him good and he's now the best QB in the league. Robert Marve is/will be fine as a temporary starter. If anything we should bring someone in to replace Brohm.

And btw - when injuries like this (to your starting QB) happen, it will make a decent team stronger and accelerate the growth of the team. a year from now we might be saying Willy's injury was the best thing to ever happen to the Bombers in recent years.

I really don't like these 'doom and gloom' threads. If you gave up the ghost every time your starter got hurt - the bombers of two years ago under Burke and Mack will start to look like a good team.

KptKrunch got a reaction from the watcher in Montreal Fires Higgins, Popp to be Interim HC
I'm surprised Higgins was let go. I still think he'd make a good GM (and that's what I wanted him for) and was surprised he did come back as a coach. Taking over a team when a 'legend' at QB retires, and a 'legend' at coach goes to the NFL (wondering here.... is Popp keeping Trestmans' seat warm for a return????) really is/was a no win situation for whomever was going to be the next head man there. I agree with Goalie that the Bombers probably said no to Higgins as I can't see Higgins (or anyone for that matter) preferring the Mtrl situation to Wpg's.

And why do some here insist on canning MOS? Hey, I get pissed at some of his decisions too - but IMO this team of ours, as I mentioned, it two years removed from, by far, the worst run 'pro' franchise is all of North America and quite possibly the world. I'm not over exaggerating. We have a rookie GM, rookie CEO, and rookie HC taking over (from last year) so I'm puzzled as to what the 'fire MOS' folks were expecting exactly.

I was/am expecting slow steady improvement and IMO we are much farther ahead then we were last year. Yes, we were blown out twice this year by Hamilton. But newsflash - and again I already said this - Hamilton is the #1 team in the league right now (it's not close) and have the best QB in the league right now (and again, it's not even close and Collaros as a lot of you know is the guy I wanted here and pined for and I was pissed when that 'release' and 'sign' thing happened before free agency) so there's no shame in that. Look what they did here to the Eskimos last night as proof as to how good they are.

Willy - very impressed this year with him. Last year after game 6 he was beat up and terrible. Why they left him in game after game is now answered for me. This year he's a different QB. He has learned. Even in the Hamilton beat down (prior to his leg being broke) he was still playing well and competing and wasn't nearly as terrible as he was last year during a game like that.
I see a bright future ahead of us - and some of you want to blow it up and start yet again? Give your heads a shake. You may turn out to be right in the long run but for now unless Trestman or Mike Riley are willing to come coach here I'm in MOS's corner

It's been going downhill for the last couple of years. Mainly because, IMO, the 'development' of top Canadians has led to a mass exodus of Canucks to the NFL. Very frustrating and why, if I were in charge, I'd open the borders. If they (Canadians) want to play the NFL so badly, then let them try to beat International players HERE for a job.

The reason why the game is suffering is Ottawa and the watering down of the Canadian content, as I've stated a few years back when opining about a 9 or 10 team league. I suggested the Canadian 'jobs' stay the same, and when teams are added, the # of international players allowed on each roster is increased. Instead, the CFL keeps the ratio the same, creating 17/18 new jobs for Canucks, which 'waters' down the league.

There's a reason why one Muamba still has a job (with the Eskimo's) and the other is in the NFL.

The biggest joke of all is our stupid draft. You get a 'stud' Canadian and he's in the NFL? So now, when you get the first pick, it's like you're a KHL team in hockey. You have to figure out who the best player is that won't make the NFL to draft.

So Farg it - open it up. Let the best players play. They'll end up trying for the NFL anyway. If that person is a Canuck - great. I think there'd be Canucks anyway. But why restrict the internationals?

Anyway -that's my take and always will be. Until they do that - the CFL will always be a sub-standard minor league feeder system no different from 'Arena football' or semi-pro US outdoor football in the US. It's just how it is.

Funny - i was one of the few who was wanting Higgins as the GM or coach here after the Burke/Mack fiasco - most here said no thanks (though TBH I was looking at him more as a GM than a coach at that point).

But you know what - I don't mind O'Shea - he's learning yes, he makes mistakes yes, but I think he is getting the most he can out of this team, we just aren't that good yet

How can you say that with a straight face? The bombers were moving the ball well in the second half under Willy. Were they going to win? No, but every time the bombers are behind at the half what, you want them to sit their #1 QB? What happens if their #1 receiver gets hurt, or their #1 Olineman, or their......... you get it? These guys are paid to play the whole game, and they should as long as they are healthy. Only time Willy should have been pulled was last year after game 6 because he was terrible - when he can't get past his first read and is taking hellacious hits because he is hanging on to the ball so long - then you pull him.

The injury was a fluke - just like Durants.

Time for these other clowns wearing blue and gold to earn their money - now we'll see what this team is made of.

Anyone who thinks Willy isn't the best thing this team has going for it simply doesn't understand how football works. I don't care who your qbs is when you have that many break downs in protection no qb is going to do any better. Willy is passing the ball like a beast when he has time to actually set his feet. Reading the D well, making good accurate throws and doing everything you need a qb to do. Then there's times when the OL is not just getting beat but not even slowing anyone down and it all falls apart because he's got the DL in his face instantly.

Hah - easy for me. Getting Pissed off at Commonwealth when Kevin Glenn fumbled the ball (after being carried for 15 yards or so by the Edmonton Defence) and the subsequent TD scored by Edmonton to 'salt' the game away and leaving the Stadium in disgust. At least I made it back to my car to hear Brian Hall's call of the Stegall catch but would have much rather seen it live

good job DoD but you missed on Liam - he was four for four on field goals (not 3 for 3).

Also very disconcerning that Willy couldn't put together one TD drive. Hey, we won and it was a hard fought game but if not for a couple of rookie mistakes by Cato this game would have been a Montreal victory. Willy needs to be better and get rid of his 'happy feet'. Dunnigan pointed it out on one play, deep in Mtrl territory. Willy had a great pocket he could step up in, but he focused on one receiver (like he was doing last year), he was covered, he panicked when there was no reason to panic and he ran from the pocket, was pressured, and threw the ball away (at least he did that much).

I think overall we were lucky to win. A win is a win and I'll take it -  but we'll be killed in Alberta playing like that.

Looks like what the CFL has done has worked.

You guys realize the new rules have absolutely nothing to do with the increase in penatlies, right? Every week on the Jason Gregor show here in Edmonton he has Bud Steen on the show. He explains it all very well, and I've learned a lot listening to his show.

In a nutshell - "If you ain't cheating you ain't trying". There's probably an infraction on 95% of the plays run in this league. The CFL has changed their positioning of the officials on the field. There are now officials running up and down the sidelines and the umpire has moved. The purpose was to give them more field vision and the ability to spot more infractions that were being missed in the past.

The players will and are adapting. They are learning where they can 'get away with stuff' and where they can't on the field.

And if you yell at the officials you should get an unsportsmanlike penalty. I don't mind when a  player or coach calls an official over and asks them to explain a call - but to yell at them, berate them, and insult them is unacceptable (we can do that though we're fans lol).

Players are human, they make mistakes. They blow coverages, they miss their blocks, they drop passes, they fumble the ball when no one is around them, they force passes they shouldn't, they run wrong routes. I don't see officials running up and berating them when they make a mistake. And CFL players make 10x the mistakes officials do. When an official makes a mistake, they know it (maybe not right away) and if you point it out respectively to them, then maybe they give a bit leeway on the next infraction.

But if it's a penalty, it's a penalty, and it's not the officials job to determine whether or not it's near the play or not, it's their job to call infractions. It's the players job to play in the rules.

Montreal showed that a very tough defence can get to the quarterback,   without  knocking his head off. Just a guess, I think that's from the coaching.

Well I guess we'll see how he does tonight. Edmonton redeemed themselves with a blowout win last night. Can the bombers do the same? If they can't beat Montreal, being led by a raw rookie QB (whom we now have game film on) then, like here, it's going to be a summer of 'hockey' in Wpg and what the Jets do get better to be more successful in the playoffs. Offseason? What Offseason?

Hey, in all seriousness, this game is HUGE for Wpg even though it's only the third game of the year. MOS is seeing 'progress' in practice but if we get blown out again then IMO things are going to get really ugly here really fast.

While Westerman has not made anyone forget Doug Brown, there's lots of blame to go around. If none of his linemates can consistently break through in one-on-ones then the opposition can put two on Westerman and that's the end of that. If memory serves, the biggest pressure last year came when Teague Sherman blitzed from his outside linebacker spot. Maybe we could name this lot "Four on the Floor".

Agreed here Bigblue - this is the CFL. In one week, your team can look absolutely pathetic, next week could look like this years Grey Cup champs.

A new defense takes awhile to learn. What this team needs more than anything in consistency. If we fired coaches after a bad game, we'd have no coaches.

As for Willy - good to see he has no lingering affects. SPuDS - thanks for the update on the concussions. I agree with you that if he did have one he wouldn't be playing. Also, sorry to hear about your circumstance. Knock on wood I've never had one and hope to never have one as it's certainly no picnic. Not very much you can do when you are suffering from one.
